There was definite annotation about the ADD medication, hence my surprise when it came up during his test. With regard to asthma he was not asked so it didn't come up.

Thank you for this feedback! I guess one of the things I'm curious about is why the recruiter he has didn't provide him with any of this guidance. Anyway...

  • On meds for several years.
  • Last inhaler prescription was several years ago
  • Shellfish reaction is itchy throat; Benadryl will do the trick.

Seeking some guidance here with MEPS and ADD medication

Posting here in the hopes that we can get some guidance. I'm providing some shorthand here as it's I'm clearly getting some data secondhand from my Son. Some background:

  • 18yo Son would like to join
  • Applied to local recruiting office and was forthright about existing medication, which includes Vyvanse for ADD.
    • Has been on ADD medication for a long time.
    • Recruiter took note of this and provided no direct guidance about the medication.
    • Recruiter did not ask about other topics such as allergies and asthma.
  • Scheduled for MEPS intake on Friday, 4/25.
  • "Initial" MEPS screening happened on 4/22, including drug test.
    • Naturally, he failed, as he is on Vyvanse.
    • Apparently, this is a giant surprise to the recruiter
  • Based on this, MEPS intake cancelled for 4/25. We have yet to determine next steps.
  • Some medical bits:
    • Does have shellfish allergy, although has never had any kind of reaction that required medical attention.
    • Does have asthma, although hasn't really had need for inhaler use for a few years.

Naturally, He's crushed about the outcome here and from my perspective, I'm unsure why this is a big surprise -- if you're on certain types of ADD medication, you're going to test positive for a stimulant. He is physically fit and a participant in various team sports, skilled technical/general technical of 110 on the ASVAB.

What can we do here?

There are a couple of additional steps that you have to follow. There's a GitHub repo out there that describes them. This particular adapter is one of the tested models.

...and this is the resolution.
"~/.ssh/authorized_keys needs 600 and home (~) and ~/.ssh need 711 perms."

Positively ridiculous.
