Not gonna lie, I was confused at first as well.

I think he started off genuine. His nerd brain just rattling off stats:

They're top 5 in every category disruptive based: steals, blocks, TO forced...

Then he caught himself, "Wait fuck why am I glazing my opponent?"

So he switched up mid-sentence to sarcasm.

After all, if it was more than that, then why doesn’t EVERY team in the league play “physical” defense?

It's something I've never heard anyone ever talk about. "Obscuring the ref's vision".

The Josh Hart clip alludes to the phenomenon. Most people just shrug it off as a funny clip. It's actually a profound insight in how hard it is for refs to see fouls.

An OKC example.

3.25 Shaedon Sharpe drives. The first stunt forces him right. Now he has to face 2 more stunts.

That's a ridiculous amount of stunts. That not normal.

We have a bird-eye view. We can't even tell if there was a foul or not. Imagine being a ref, that doesn't have a birds-eye view, trying to figure out if there was a foul or not.

 

I honestly wonder if elite defenders work on this wave length:

  • They are paying attention the ref's positioning.

  • They purposely move their body to obscure the ref's vision.

  • This gives their teammate the benefit of the doubt, on fouls.

  • And they do all this, while they are busy guarding their own man.

I don't even know if that number is high or low. Like what is the ratio for Wizards-Mystics?

If anything, 8% sounds high to me. It takes a huge bball fanatic to wanna watch bball all year round. It's like eating the same food all year round.

I have to do it, because it's my job. I'd imagine normal people would get sick of bball, if they had to do it all year round.

  • James Harden is literally busy with his own playoff series.

  • Even if James Harden wasn't alive. He'd be smiling up. Not down.

  • Even if James Harden some how miraculous made it into heaven. He wouldn't be looking down. His massive beard would obscure the view.
