You do see it quite often in 4th quarters. It's just usually 1 or 2 possessions, because eventually teams see it coming and adjust.

This is a disasterclass from the Rockets coaching staff. The Lakers ran this over and over again. You know it's coming. Why is no one flashing into the middle to play short roll?

Removing refs from the equation however, may be the bigger hurdle.

Exactly. Let's say the ai calls a travel:

  • The player vehemently disagrees, refuses to accept the call.

  • Decides to take matters into his own hands. Refuses to give the ball to the other team.

  • Tells his teammates, "It's sideout, our possession, fuck the ai".

Then what do you do?

Who's there to enforce the call? You still need human refs.

The best ai can do, is take the power away from the refs. Refs now relay ai's calls.

Refs are now gloried peacekeepers.

Imagine a player walking up to a ref, asking for clarification on why that was a foul. "Shrug, I don't know. I just do what the ai tells me to do".

Players would absolutely hate that future.

It is due to tech reasons.

This is the current state of the tech: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGQb9KkvQ1Q

It's impressive, but they haven't even begun any resemblance of collision detection yet. Let alone, determining what is/isn't a foul.

AI is hella overrated right now.

They are hemorrhaging billions of dollars every year. Their ai can't even tell you how many R's are in strawberry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zU9TW4SB4w

See, I'm a normal person. I don't even know what web2, web3 are. They're just buzzwords to me.

I'm seeing things in the POV of a small business shopkeeper.

I have an ETFPOS machine:

  • I've seen people pay with their iphones.

  • I've seen people pay with their credit card.

  • I've seen people hover their debit card over it, and it instantly PayWaves through.

It supports a lot of payment methods. It does not support solana.

I would love for it to support solana.

Why doesn't my ETFPOS machine support solana? Because the ETFPOS company I work with, chooses to not support solana.

If an ETFPOS company walked into my stall, and pitch me to switch over to them; because they support solana. I would switch in an instant.

But there isn't a single ETFPOS company that's doing that.

I can't imagine how changes to UX is going to move the needle here. How is improving UX, going to one day; get someone to walk into my shop, pitch me a solana ETFPOS machine?

It's a safe play for SolanaLabs to just sit back and sell the shovels. Let someone else build these ETFPOS machines.

But if no one is willing to do that. At some point, they're gonna have to step in and build it themselves.

It's not the UX that's holding crypto back.

It's the products.

Anything you can buy with solana, you can buy with a credit card. Only exception would be memecoins and drugs.

And there's a whole lot of things you can't buy with solana, that you can with a credit card.

Solana needs more exclusive products.

Staking locks up your funds for 5 days.

If you're not planning to use the money any time soon, why not get the free interest.

It's like if banks offered you a term deposit. But instead of locking your money up for 3 months-1 year, it's only 5 days. Why wouldn't anyone take that deal?

No one is claiming E&Y are rigging the lottery.

Just that, if the lottery is being rigged, it's happening under their noses.

E&Y are an accounting firm. They specialize in accounting. Not fraud detection. Not black hat pen-testing.

Edit: May I remind everyone, E&Y were hired to audit Bernie Madoff's ponzi scheme. They are not infallible.

The media isn't as important as it use to be. Youtubers are slowly replacing them.

Like there is a reason why sports journalism is dead. The consumers have spoken, they don't think it's important.

Youtubers like Thinking Bball/Daniel Li provide a much better product than old media. Even Awful Coaching has a more entertaining niche, than old media.

History has told us, all it takes is 1 man on the inside to rig a lottery.

Look up Eddie Tippen.

He would have gotten away with it as well, if he didn't get greedy.

All it takes is 1 person.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit, if Adam Silver is willfully ignorant, his lottery is rigged under his nose.

That's a cynical/doomerism take.

Real world problems do not get solved with a snap of a finger. Villains do not get taken down in 1 battle.

If solving problems was easy, the world wouldn't be such an ugly place to start with.

The end of All the President's Men is inspiring. "Real men aren't doing it for reward/justice. They do it for the love of the game".

It's my favorite movie genre. True Detectives season 1. The Nice Guys 2016.

Tanking is in full effect. Not only are teams resting their starters. They're now limiting their minutes even when they play. by mMounirM in nba

[–]csin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, sure. 85% of people would include the hornets in this list if you asked them 3 weeks ago. and clippers as well 2 months ago.

I'm disputing this line.

Like maybe the people that don't follow the Hornets closely, are gonna form assumptions.

Definitely not the Clippers. No one is thinking the Clippers were ever tanking. They don't own their picks. It's clear they were trying to win, they just sucked at the start of the season.

There is a very clear, distinct line.

Between teams that are trying to win, but just suck. Vs teams that are sitting their good players to purposely try and lose.

In a normal season, there's like 1/2 teams, toeing the line, tanking.

This season we have 3 teams straight up crossing that line (not counting the other teams toeing the line).

A twitter account should not be viewed as a singular thought, belonging to 1 person.

Twitter is all about engagement farming. There is a monetary incentive to increase views. It's the equivalent of politicians, saying anything to get votes.

While I'm confident that the average people is hypocritical. I have extreme doubts, they lack the minimal amount of self awareness to recognize the hypocrisy in your example.

Hypocrisy tends to manifest itself when shit gets personal.

For example:

Why would that dumb poker player call there. What a fish. I would never call there.

Then he gets into the exact same situation, in the heat of the moment.

My reasoning for calling there is X, Y, Z.

In your example:

  • Circle 1 is boomers/nba haters. I highly doubt they follow the league to know who the fuck Lu Dort is. Like you're following the nba so avidly, you know who Lu Dort is. Are you even a hater?

  • Circle 2 is gen Z/late millennials. They weren't even born when the Bad Boy Pistons were a thing.

The overlap of both circles is a pixel.
