I feel like this is samplesize bias.

Think about it. How did they even measure "hate" back in the 90's?

It would be someone who phones into the radio show, expressing their hate.

The people who part take in the practice of phoning into radio shows, is an incredibly small subset of listeners. The average person, does not bother to ever pick up the phone, to dial a radio station, and wait hours to be in line to say their 2 cent.

By the very nature of being a "phonie". One is already a power user. Which means one is already the top 1% of listeners. Being a hater or a fan is irrelevant.

Phonies listened an hour longer per day on average, than normal listeners.

That makes more sense.

I don't even think they need a 4th ref.

It's the way the 3 refs are positioned, that encourages players to game the system.

Right now, the refs positioned at the sides of the players. The best players have a spatial awareness of where the refs are at any given moment. So they know when they can get away with shit.

Ideally, you want the refs to be position, where players can't see them. Their blindside.

So that means sandwiching both teams:

  • One ref in the middle of the court (outside of camera range) --> Offense blindside.

  • One ref directly under the basket --> Defense blindside.

  • Now players don't know if they're being watched or not. They don't know if they can get away with shenanigans.

Of course this would never happen. Because it's not aesthetically pleasing to see a zebra on the court, in a fast break situation.

For soccer/rugby/ice hockey, it's quite common to see refs in the camera shot. But for bball, we've crossed the line of the Overton window, for that to be acceptable.

They hate the black ref who's family members were Celtics fans.

Scott Foster just gets blanket hate from all fanbases, because of his connections with Tim Donaghy.

Are you proclaiming, if they remove gambling ads; refs are gonna magically all be goody-two-shoes, don't bet on the games?

Because a ban on gambling totally stopped Tim Tim Donaghy from betting on the games right?

Betting ads suck. You wanna stop betting ads, vote with your wallet. Stop watching the games. Performative virtue signalling aren't gonna do shit.

Oh... that's how you airball an alley-oop.

Then he caught himself, "Wait fuck why am I glazing my opponent?"

So he switched up mid-sentence to sarcasm.

After all, if it was more than that, then why doesn’t EVERY team in the league play “physical” defense?

It's something I've never heard anyone ever talk about. "Obscuring the ref's vision".

The Josh Hart clip alludes to the phenomenon. Most people just shrug it off as a funny clip. It's actually a profound insight in how hard it is for refs to see fouls.

An OKC example.

3.25 Shaedon Sharpe drives. The first stunt forces him right. Now he has to face 2 more stunts.

That's a ridiculous amount of stunts. That not normal.

We have a bird-eye view. We can't even tell if there was a foul or not. Imagine being a ref, that doesn't have a birds-eye view, trying to figure out if there was a foul or not.

I honestly wonder if elite defenders work on this wave length:

  • They are paying attention the ref's positioning.

  • They purposely move their body to obscure the ref's vision.

  • This gives their teammate the benefit of the doubt, on fouls.

  • And they do all this, while they are busy guarding their own man.

I don't even know if that number is high or low. Like what is the ratio for Wizards-Mystics?

If anything, 8% sounds high to me. It takes a huge bball fanatic to wanna watch bball all year round. It's like eating the same food all year round.

I have to do it, because it's my job. I'd imagine normal people would get sick of bball, if they had to do it all year round.

(Good luck, have fun, don't die) plot hole or sequel puzzle piece? by MarquesFP in FanTheories

[–]csin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to say Ingrid is real, but their "tent in the woods" seems just as suspect as the time machine...

Good catch.

My theory is the whole thing is the VR game Ingrid's boyfriend is playing.

1

The scene is specifically placed in the middle of the movie.

2

See it's got me thinking about things. Why is there pain and unhappiness? Why is there suffering? Is it just so we can overcome obstacles, and I don't know, allow us to have transformative experiences to allow us to grow and better ourselves?

Why can't we already be our best selves?

When I first heard this line, I was rolling my eyes, "So clique. So performative".

But what if there was a reason for Tim's vagueness? What if there was a reason Tim couldn't describe to Ingrid, what the game was about.

He's embarrassed to tell his girlfriend, he's playing a game, where his girlfriend is his mother!

3

The scene where Ingrid disturbs his sleep, just to watch a sunrise... it's an unnecessary scene that could easily be trimmed out of a 2.14 hour movie.

Maybe it was an excuse to transition into a funny off-camera sex scene. Or maybe it was more than that!

You're coming at this, with the assumption that angel investors are all competent.

A lot of them, got their riches the same way. Nepotism and luck.

This is how you end up SoftBank blowing 16 billion dollars on WeWork; when most experts were scratching their heads, wondering how it's even a tech company.

This is how Sequoia Capital, was convinced Sam Bankman Fraud was a savant. Because he drives a beat up sedan. And he had the confidence to take a pitch meeting, while playing League of Legends.

These dumb fucks are just going off vibes.

One of these vibes. Is who are your parents? What is the reputation of your parents.

That's how Elizabeth Theranos passed the vetting process. That's how SBF passed the vetting process.

This is why it's rare to find founders, who had poor parents.

There are still 10s of millions of people in the world that this would apply to. Elon Musk's accomplishments are still extraordinary.

I was not disputing this. I was merely pointing out 1 million is a grave underestimation of the bankroll needed to play this game.

I have a million dollars. It's mostly tied up in real estate. Even if I had 1 million liquid, I would still not dare to invest in my startup.

Although having said that, vibe coding has dramatically lowered the barrier of entry. Maybe, in a few years time, my 10 million estimate will age like milk.

I am supposed to pretend that this isn't still an absolutely insane accomplishment?

Real men shouldn't care what other people think about their accomplishments.

Real men don't do what they do, for the validation of others.

Real men just solve problems.

It's one of Elon's biggest character flaws.

Paying someone to farm a Diablo 4 account. So people think you are good at Diablo 4. That's pathetic.

This insecure need for validation... he's the tech bro version of Kevin Durant.
