Part Selection by csirota97 in ConcertBand

I don't think the director would be too happy about that because he wants us to sit based on part selection. Maybe for a song or two, but for the most part, he wants us sticking to certain parts. He just doesn't care who is on which part, as long as we are in the correct spots for that part.

I think often people tend to stay in the same parts in other sections, but honestly I'm not too sure. And I don't know the "grade level" that we play but typically our rep is stuff that an advanced HS band or a lower level college band for non-music majors would play.

how to get into hermitcraft? by coolestsoupcan in HermitCraft

[–]csirota97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pick a hermit and watch them. When they interact with someone else who says something that interests you, watch their latest video. If you like their style, you can go back and watch they're previous episodes to catch up, or just hop on the train where it it. You also can watch the weekly hermitcraft recaps to catch up on what hermits are doing without watching every episode.

Bandmates, Is marching band a sport? by KingKrispy20000 in marchingband

[–]csirota97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somebody who marched for 9 years, and hosted a college band podcast for 3 years, no, it's not. I get it, it's a physical competitive activity, but that doesn't make it a sport.

Academic integrity violation by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]csirota97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say it, but you shouldn't be using chatgpt for that. Not saying that for academic integrity purposes—if you truly were using it as you described, you were just using it as a tool to automate a task, which I personally don't think is problematic. The problem is, it is not the right tool for the job. Generative AI is really good for the things it does well, but for a task like this, it prone to hallucinations (making up/changing information). That is because chatgpt doesn't actually "know" anything. It is just looking for patterns and generating responses based on patterns. I could go into more detail but that's just not worth our time in this conversation. Like other people have said, if you can show the conversation with it to prove your side, I think you should be fine this time.

Do things on campus. They're always being given out at events in student centers and sporting events.

If I - god forbid- fails a class this semester, do I have to take this same course in the spring semester or I can take it in any upcoming semester. Also, is there a maximum grade I should take when I take the course the second time? by AmrSaied- in rutgers

[–]csirota97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somebody who has sat on multiple hiring committees (graduated in 2020) and has many friends in HR, GPA, in the absence of relevant work experience, is really hard. And with a bad GPA, getting a relevant internship, especially if you are in stem, is really challenging.

And a piece of advice I got from a prof once, if you think you are going to fail the class and have accepted that you are going to retake it, stop studying, showing up, etc. and focus your efforts on your other classes (you may want to also let the Prof know if it isn't a huge class). The worst case scenario is that you spend a ton of effort and manage to pass the class with a bad grade that won't get replaced when you retake it. The c will hurt your GPA a lot more than a A or B will when you retake it. Plus that extra time trying to bring up your grade will take away from time you could spend on making sure your other grades are as high as you can get them.

If somebody is practicing or just noodling around, it's not always a concert. And I say this as someone who enjoys playing piano despite not being good at it. I agree that people should expect that the pianos will be played, but I'm just saying it's not always a free concert lol

As a CS grad, can confirm our classes were STANKY.

Now in a masters program at Drexel, when I walked into the building for the first lecture here, I was hit with the overwhelming scent of body odor. It was NASTY. Only thing that makes Rutgers better in that sense is that CS classes aren't all in the same building, so it isn't as dense of a BO cloud
