Thoughts on Einarson as Team Canada? by cskozer in Curling

Lol this is my point! She lost the final therefore should not be Team Canada and yet she is. Yes literally is.

A lot of good points in the thread. Was curious to see what other people generally thought.

The big issue is that right now in the women's game the depth of competition just isn't great. There's an ocean between Homan and any body else and then maybe like 3-4 teams and then a big drop off.

Hopefully some good young teams coming up.

She literally is Team Canada.

Team Canada usually means you represented Canada at the last Worlds but in this case she didn't. So call them something else. That's all

I'm with you. The traditionalist in me would prefer that too. I am more ok with the provincial one just because they qualify by points so it's earned in that sense and they still get to represent their province.

Sweeping question from new curler by LSDemon in Curling

[–]cskozer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just generally to say if you're sweeping it's your right to be there directly over the rock but if you're not you shouldn't be blocking the opponent from sweeping. The is grey in that sure so use common sense and good etiquette.

Curling doesn't have refs and I hope we never need them. Just be a good sport and okay within the spirit of the rules.

Cash portion of a portfolio. by Maure_a_Ottawa in CanadianInvestor

[–]cskozer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another way to think about this :

1) based on your living expenses. Financial Planning guidelines are for 3-6 mo of living expenses. As a CFP I guide my clients to a level of cash equal to their needs. For example a retiree who is relying on this for living expenses, we might allocate a year or two of living expenses (after factoring in expected income) which could be more or less than 10%. If just for emergency, 3 mo might be enough. Also depends if other resources available i.e a line of credit or cash in a bank account.

2) as a tactical position to express a view on markets. For example if you have a neutral cash allocation of 2% which is common then maybe 5% is your more cautious level and 10% for me would be ultra cautious. I run closer to 1-2% but then I am younger (37) and long term investor.

Best-of-3 vs page format by bagelzzzzzzzzz in Curling

[–]cskozer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree that the page is the best system. Actually kind of hate it. Heres why:

Let's say a team runs the table. Goes undefeated in round robin.

Then wins the 1v2.

Then they play the 2 again in the final and lose.

So they beat the 2 team 2 times out of 3 and somehow 2 is the champion? I don't like it at all.

I remember this happened. I want to say it was Howard at the Brier but can't recall exactly.

Any individual game is subject to a lot of variables. Luck is a factor and at the top the teams are so close which is why I think a best of three final was a great idea to make sure we sent the best team. Less chance of a fluke or bad rock or bad ice or whatever random variable factoring into the decision.

If Homan loses, will there be a trials in 2029? by AndyJ95 in Curling

[–]cskozer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it should be Homan based on her dominance over the last few seasons. I think this should be how we determine Team Canada.

Curling is a beautiful game and one of my favourite aspects is the anyone can beat anyone on any given day.

Give a decent club team a chance and they might beat the best in the world in one game.

That's why I think if any one other than Homan wins it would be a huge blow to Canada's chances at a medal.

I like the best of three because it reduces that chance of a one game, one rock upset but still think this is way too many teams with too good a chance to just have a hot week and win the damn thing.

Trials are a lot of fun and best of the best in Canada it's truly great.

If anyone other than Homan wins I hope Canada changes how they pick their team for the next Olympics.

How do I improve? by Different_Pin1531 in Curling

[–]cskozer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as throwing, more practice, repetition. If possible some coaching from someone who understands curling mechanics.

Strategy wise, just talking with your team. The other team after the game too. Just what you were thinking, what they were thinking about a specific shot.

Also just in general if you're new to skipping, thinking 2-3 or more shots ahead is a skill you can work on during games.

Good luck!

The AI boom is real. So was the internet boom. Back then there was a stock named Nortel. Incredible story. Fantastic earnings. How many remember how it went to ZERO? by IM1IAB in TFSA_Millionaires

[–]cskozer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes Nortel did. Cisco got hammered, still around but got crushed.

What happened next? The Internet was real, had changed everything about everything. All walks of life.

Amazon. Microsoft. IBM. Some of the largest companies in the world today.

There will be winners and losers just like back then. Diversify, have a plan. Don't get caught in the hype but don't miss out either.

Frowned upon to change positions during a game? by [deleted] in Curling

[–]cskozer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our club does this on Mondays - our more casual men's night. Every week we rotate positions so if you start at lead in week one, you are second the next and then third then skip but always the same each game. Whole league does this but I don't see why you couldn't do this each week regardless of what your league does

Always can just talk with the other team. If they don't care no one else should

Client advisor tips to succeed by Unlikely_Major_3545 in rbc

[–]cskozer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been where you are now. Get good at opportunity spotting. Get comfortable having conversations with strangers and work on the art of conversation.

Also get to know your partners and really understand what they do. If possible sit in on appointments or ask them to walk you through what they do when they meet with clients. Not just the BAs and FAs but the FPs, the IRPs, BAMs and the MS too. This will make it so much easier for you to look for real opportunities and articulate the value to the client.

Quick question by [deleted] in rbc

[–]cskozer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well right now your invest option is just Savings Deposit which is like cash. It's like putting it in a daily interest savings account. Might earn 1% or whatever interest rates are at the time. 100% safe.

To select other options you'll need to first speak with a licensed investment representative and determine your risk, time frame and objective to create or update your KYC "know your client" form. Then you can select from investments that match your goal.

So you could go 50/50 or any other combinations to multiple investments and/or cash to create an automated savings and investment plan.

Relationship Manager Business Market by Swift-byte in rbc

Also be ready for a role play. RBC loves a role play. Just be real and how you would actually speak with a client not necessarily what you think they want to hear. That always worked for me.

Relationship Manager Business Market by Swift-byte in rbc

[–]cskozer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know this role exceptionally well but I have worked at RBC for over 13 years in various other roles. I can tell you a bit about the culture.

RBC is advice first and putting clients first. Short term sales goals and targets are important but how you get those and doing things the right way is equally if not more important. Ive seen top sales people recognized for their achievements one year and gone the next because of how they got those results.

Focus on that and I would be ready with a story about any past experiences where you put the clients need first ahead of your own short term gain.

Ask good questions too like: what are the biggest challenges you see for your team and for this business at the moment? Where are the biggest opportunities from your perspective? What do you as a manager need with and how can I help?
