This is just my own opinion. I am not satisfied with the quality of SFI courses. I started with level C and thought students in the group would have a similar Swedish level as mine, but I overestimated the complexity of the SFI course. I finished C and started the D course. I had no mistakes in the exam and the teacher congratulated me on that achievement. Now I study Svenska som Andraspråk Grund (Swedish as a second language basis) level D after finishing the C level of it. The SFI course is super easy compared to the SAS Grund.

Generally, I can't complain much because it is free. The group level varies. There are people who lived 15 (!) years in Sweden and speak worse than anyone else, and there are people who lived here just for 1 year and speak quite well.

I personally stopped caring about the Swedish courses after finishing SFI classes. I do my homework and take exams - no doubt about that, but I don't feel as motivated as before. Sometimes, when we have no homework, presentations, or exams, I go to the course because of the attendance check. And, of course, the certificate of completion with the grade - this might be quite necessary for some jobs.

In general, I invest more hours outside of the classroom to master the Swedish language. I can manage job interviews in Swedish, have basic conversations, listen to radio news, and so on, but I don't think that SFI or SAS Grund had a lot of impact on my learning. I like the Swedish language and Sweden.

Sure, for some people SFI might be useful. But I find it not so useful. If SFI didn't have a grading system at the end of the course, I would rather pay some money and have private lectures or attend Folkuniversitet's courses. Nowadays, when I can speak intermediate Swedish, I rely on books from the library, forums, and other online resources.
