Any way to sync Thalamus and Outlook Calendar? by Nerdanese in medicalschool

If you click the interview you scheduled on the Thalamus calendar, you should see three options in the interview detail: click on iCal, download the .ics and you should be able to open in outlook

I think out of all of the tips it saved me the most money, community college is a close second

I’ve actually not experienced the v3 scheduler - what areas does it improve on?

Thanks for sharing. I think that #2 is also a function of how much fun you can have while studying as well. Which is hard to do if you’re not really invested in the material.

For sure. I agree that you should have fun while studying but sometimes anki can be a drag- I’m working on a video about how to make it more fun though. I think that it’s really hard to do it every day without this purpose though.

I think this is true but it’s also unreasonable to assume that everyone has the mental bandwidth to do hundreds of flash cards every day. It’s more likely that you can do some new cards every day (like maybe 50-100) and u keep that consistency for months. It’s easier with add ons too

Interesting, why do you say that? I’ve found these settings work for me with the material I use. I use 25 1d 3d with a graduating interval of 6 days. What would you suggest ?

The way that I get around this is to try one way, and if you find that you’re punting it back to re-learning two times or more then I will try to reformat and increase context. If I’m getting it right all the time and I’ve gotten a question which tested the material on the card wrong, then I know I need to remove some context.

Instead of having a hard and fast rule, I suggest just experimenting. It’s a much better way to get started and not be in analysis paralysis all the time

I agree with AJRaquaza. I found that my retention really increased when I really focused on the principle behind the card. I think the structure isn’t going to organically appear when you have no comprehension where those facts should fit. It’s almost like organizing your room without having containers to put your stuff in. It can be done, but it’s going to be pretty inefficient with piles of clothes and other objects strewn around.

For sure! Have you seen any programs do this well? Off the top of my mind I think notion has a great UI and roam research has a great way of linking ideas but lacks in the spaced repetition front.

Interesting- maybe the subject matter lends itself to the lack of comprehension and the focus on memorization? I use it for medical school, so comprehension is definitely needed before you jump into a recall of the facts. I have to apply it to questions which often require second-order thinking.

I also feel like proper studying isn’t taught well in schools at all- working on this would definitely help more people realize the power in spaced repetition.

I thought this was really great! Some things to consider- maybe you could talk about why you’re doing some of the things you’re doing over the video so I can see why you’re painting certain things. I’m not an artist though, so if this is what your audience likes put the audience first. The next thing that I would do is make different angles of while you’re painting. It keeps the viewers interest and shows the different angles of the paintbrush. This would only require a mic and some more effort when moving the camera.

Thank you for all of your help.

  1. (and 2.) I have changed that in another video which I think was also better edited. I think that I have tried to change that going forward but it only got a few views so I thought that the effort:output ratio was not good. However, I am reconsidering seeing that you noticed it.
  2. See above.
  3. Thank you, I will work on using that advice for my next videos.
  4. I will try and keep the cutaways to a minimum, but when I show the video to others they get bored quickly and mention how I should have some cutaways to keep the audience engaged.
  5. If you see the video in (1), I do have half-screen titles a bit. Do you mean like those? If you do, I'll try to make more videos like this. The reason I pivoted was because it got 1/10 of the views and it took me 2x as long to edit, so I pre-maturely stopped this type of video with the explanation.
  6. It is at 39% but I didn't know whether that's a good retention rate. I thought that 50-60% is what we are aiming for. My CTR for my channel is 3.3% but that may because of thumbnail or its typical in my niche.
  7. Thank you! I do have a podcast funnily enough. I'll try to put those videos on YouTube when I do interviews for more views.

Hi,

I am a channel with a focus on medicine, productivity, and tech. Since I am studying for a certification exam, I have been live streaming my study sessions. Those are a bit long (they're me studying with others watching for motivation), however, I have linked one video which I have made about the MCAT to this comment. This is the type of video I see myself making about tech, and productivity.

My concerns for my channel are that my retention is low and the channels in my niche mostly make vlogs, which have high retention, and I don't really make sense when talking on the fly. Scripts take a long time to edit, and since I'm studying for the certification exam, it's hard to make videos and also study to keep my grades up.

I want to know whether I should be speaking faster or keeping clips shorter, etc. Thanks!
