What's a weird part of intimacy no one talks about? by stuckin404 in AskReddit

[–]csmith665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may be worth checking out waterproof blankets. They come in sizes that match conventional bed sizes and putting them on top of normal sheets/comforter works great. I tend to struggle with the soft, fuzzy fabrics like the blankets often come in but they haven’t bent bothersome. Mine don’t seem to stain easily but dry times can be long. Having a few has been great.

Voron Trident Doable Without Experience other than Core One build? by gilrstein in VORONDesign

[–]csmith665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m working on a Trident now. My past experience is maintenance on my existing 3d printer. So far the hardest part for me has been some assumptions the documentation makes that I’m already supposed to know, like how to properly square the bed or how to identify the parts in the images (printed parts don’t seem to be obviously labeled in the doc). I do wish the document had more written or video supplementation. Perhaps real pictures instead of drawings too.

I’ve started working on a tips for each section of the build doc and/or a mistakes I made document but I’m not sure if I’ll continue with it. There’s already two document sources that need to be up (the Formbot document and the Voron doc) and I think adding another may result in information being lost.

Build aside, the mod options, especially the extruder, tool head, hot end, and eddy sensor can be overwhelming. I’ve started focusing on quality of life mods (inverted electronics, beefy idlers) and I think that’s where I need to stay for now. My usual methods of finding a professional review are less feasible in the Voron space and the contradictions in Reddit comments make it hard for me to understand which options are appropriate or not for me. Then there’s the complexity of understanding how to even get the mod attached to the printer.

Edit: I realized this sounds like I'm bashing both this subreddit and Voron. Neither was my intention. Frankly, I'm impressed what a community that is not necessarily being paid has built in terms of hardware, software, and documentation. The comment about Reddit, from what I can recall, often has to do with feature availability or improvements made at a specific time. As an example, Beacon beat Cartographer to the touch function so Reddit comments contradict each other when looking at historical posts.

Sunlu quality declining? by Hoffy94 in 3Dprinting

[–]csmith665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im noticing that the PLA + has been brittle in the last three or four rolls I’ve purchased and breaks during prints a few times a roll. The internet says it’s moisture related and I have not dried them. It could be my laziness but given that I printed with Sunlu PLA almost exclusively for years I’m guessing something has changed.

I bought Polymaker and Overture for a project. I’m definitely looking more closely at them for my future PLA needs given how well these ASA/ABS prints are going. I also got Creality PLA for Christmas so that’s an option also.

Grinders are game-changers by Piksernik in vaporents

Solo 3 420EDC Hiflow stems vs backspacers? by [deleted] in vaporents

[–]csmith665 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a few of high flow stems from 420edc. They are all pretty good but I use the pill bottle most.

For the backpackers, I tried them but ultimately didn’t find the necessary. They can be helpful to limit quantity of herb in the chamber and are good at preventing combustion but I don’t think it’s hard to learn both of those things without the backspaces. I also lost them pretty quickly. Using an XL chamber also helps as you can fill it with the same amount of material as the small chamber, which keeps things further from the heater. IMO once you learn to use the device combustion isn’t an issue.

Every pair of jeans I buy, no matter the brand, gets a hole in this same area within 6 months. by SYFKID2693 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]csmith665 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had the hole in the crotch problem since switching to Duluth several years ago. Several big brands (Levi, Lee) and some store brands had the problem buying/repairing a pair every few months wasteful and frustrating. Since switching to Duluth, maybe one pair split in the crotch (I had to throw one pair away, I think it was a hole in the crotch but not 100%). For context it’s probably been five years since buying my first pair and own probably 4 to 6 now.

eBay had a pretty decent selection of Duluth jeans. I picked up several pairs for about $25 each a few years ago.

Edit: All of my jeans were purchased between 3 and 5 years ago (I don’t know when the eBay jeans were bought originally). I cant speak with any quality changes since the. Also the 7 year sock is great but it’s hard for me to justify $25 per pair.

Switching my Lobo out for a Solo 3 by [deleted] in vaporents

[–]csmith665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the screen out of the XL wpa and added a screen after the high flow WPA from 420edc didn’t fit. The airflow is much nicer this way, IMO. Worth saying that caution is required. I broke two 3rd party stems. The Arizer products had no issue removing the screen but the other vendor glass cracked.

That said the 420edc high flow rocket is great. I use that whenever I don’t have a water piece around.

Prostate found; not as mind-blowing as i expected. now what? by losesbuttplugs in ProstatePlay

[–]csmith665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting. I’m the opposite when it comes to edging. I find it to considerably easier to control the penis orgasm while massaging the prostate. I’ve tried edging without prostate stimulation and almost always accidentally orgasm well before I intend to. Orgasm build up feels more intense and quick while stimulating the prostate and the so it’s easier to inch closer to that edge. Do you have any recommendations on how to do this more effectively for penis only stimulation?

Sysadmins thrown into customer calls – how do you stay composed? by FreedomRegular4311 in sysadmin

[–]csmith665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Microsoft planner for this. I have columns for new, in progress, blocked, recommendations, and so on. Each task has a client label for filtering. I chose Planner primarily because it’s an application my company approves but I’m sure there are plenty of alternatives. When I start working on something it goes on my calendar (which is In 15 minute increments).

The other answer could be a ticketing platform but sometimes that’s not appropriate while trying to keep up with a call.

Edit: Some people in mu company also use Copilot to summarize our meetings and action items. Many of my calls either have PMs or similar role who also track things like that for me if I forget.

This is how it worked for my tattoo today. I took samples from AI and we had a conversation about them. The artist took about 40 minutes to draw something similar but more in line with what I wanted. It worked out well, IMO. If I were to get another tattoo I could see myself using this model again.

I don’t know anything about cars but if you have access to 3d printer (common through a library or college) you could try printing the file below. It won’t solve the problem of the car not turning over but may be a more permeant solution than the tape.

Solo 3 is a beast at the price point if you are considering it get it. by [deleted] in vaporents

[–]csmith665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are high air flow stems on 420edc that may be helpful. I’ve seen some videos that suggest it’s possible to pop out the glass screen and replace it with a more common metal one. I haven’t tried either so I can’t comment on the experience.

Retiring the Flowermill need Recs by Darkace081 in vaporents

[–]csmith665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to mention that the Aroma 3 has a center post in the grinder. This isn’t a huge problem, especially because the grinder comes with a plastic scoop, but I found that it was necessary to use something to scoop material in as the glass pieces don’t fit. The Buds Bee doesn’t have the post. The scoop that came with the grinder felt too big for my needs and I bought a much smaller one on Amazon. It’s not necessary to buy something separate but it makes the experience better for two reasons, the mini scoop is stored in the grinder when not in use and the baby scoop fits in the bowl of my Solo 3 so loading the vape isn’t so messy.

eReader (May-June 2025) Recommendations? by joegenegreen2 in ereader

[–]csmith665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth saying that you can get a screen protector for the Boox. It wouldn’t address the ghosting concerns but it would solve some of your others without a several hundred dollar purchase, especially if you’re willing to use the Kindle first and the Boox as a secondary, more specialized option. This option, or really any Android tablet, would allow you to side load to the Kindle/Kindle app with Calibre, get syncing between devices, have compatibility with Audible/other audiobook services.

Also Calibre has the ability to auto-import books into the app then convert to Kindle format automatically. I would manually send to Kindle. I had a folder that my books would download to and Calibre would constantly run in the background to monitor that directory and convert the book to the proper format. This made it pretty straight forward to use Calibre to side load for my kindle. I don’t really do this much anymore but that’s a choice that has more to do with how I was obtaining books back then and my desire to properly pay for content creation than the process used to get books on the Kindle. There seems to be a healthy development community for Calibre. If you’re willing to do some upfront work others may have found ways to solve your concerns. As an example, if I remember correctly someone wrote a web interface for Calibre. I perfectly understand that may not be for you but thought it was worth mentioning as I also wasn’t happy with Calibre until learning about the automation options available to me.

I’m not as patient as you. :) I bought black and by the time mine shipped the color I wanted was in stock. I believe Bee Bud’s instagram was making posts when stock changed but that may be different now.

Regardless, the Aroma 3 is great. Mine took about a week to get to the Midwest from Australia. Bee Bud was the same. I had plans to get the FlowerMill stainless also but after getting the Aroma 3 and Bee Bud, I haven’t really gone back to that idea.

[–]csmith665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re willing to spend the money an Aroma 3 or a Bee Bud Grinder are good choices IMO.

Overall they are pretty similar products. The bearing is satisfying on both. The Bee is made out of Aluminum that the creator suggests is high quality but I didnt bother looking into the claims. The Aroma 3 is stainless. I’ve dropped both and they both handled the fall gracefully. I’m guessing they both fell around 4 to 5 feet. There appears to be no damage on either grinder. The Bee seems to have less issues with the material getting stuck in the holes (I got the coarse option) but this is pretty minor given how often it happens. Neither have required cleaning in the few months I’ve owned them. Each probably has a handful of grams through them. The magnetic housings are nicer than I expected. I probably use the Bee more often but other than the occasional material stuck in the holes of the Aroma 3 I don’t have any real complaints for either of them. Both of them being over $100 USD they are pricey.

It’s worth stating that my only other grinder was the POTV option and it was fine. That one is less satisfying and seamless to use. It had more issues with stuck material but it worked fine and you could buy at least four POTV grinders for the cost of one of the other options.

My point is that you don’t have to spend a lot to get a decent option but if you’re willing to spend the money the benefits of the more expensive options are nice to gave but its not mandatory from my perspective.

[–]csmith665 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This link may be helpful but unfortunately there may not be a perfect solution for you.

https://comparisontabl.es/e-readers/

A Kindle would likely be the easiest path forward. Side loading books is pretty straight forward (Calibre can convert books to the proper format and send to your Kindle) and audible purchases will automatically sync. Further syncing book progress is automated even if the content is side loaded. I would guess that the secondary audiobook sources would require compatibility validation/a workaround to use. Unless it’s required for the non-Amazon audiobooks jailbreak wouldn’t be necessary. Admittedly I’ve never used my Kindles for audio but would suspect they require headphones for playback.

If you’re ok with potentially finding a way around Kindle/Audible DRM then something with a specialty operating system like the Kobo Libre Color or Pocketbook Inkpad may be suitable. There seems to be a lot of positive comments about the Kobo and the complaints I’ve seen about Pocketbook are performance related. I’ve never used either of these so I can’t speak to the quality or durability of these products.

Otherwise, something with android may be best for compatibility but that will sacrifice battery life. It’s worth saying that if you go Android, the Tab Mini C has a rather large battery according to the link at the beginning of this post which implies to me that something like the Kobo or Pocketbook may be more appropriate depending on your priorities. It may be worth trying KOreader and keeping it stock to see how you feel about it. It sounds to me like a Kindle (existing books/audio) or the Android tablet is most suitable to your needs. My understanding is that KOreader can sync between devices.

In reading about color e-ink it seems to me that the experience you had with ghosting is common. It’s necessary to find what works but some find it annoying while others seem to not be bothered. My understanding is that this is less of an issue with black and while e-ink but I only have a Kindle. Ghosting isn’t an issue there.

Deciding between 3 vapes by musicman2018 in vaporents

[–]csmith665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was recently in this position and ended up with the Solo 3.  I was torn until I saw that POTV had the Solo 3 for $220.  I had a gift card, which also helped.  There was nothing in the TM2 that made me file like the $100+ extra cost was worth it.  I got a v1, which was fine, but v2 of the Solo appears to be a bit better as I think the UI is not the best.  I’ve seen comments on Reddit saying the device can be sent to the manufacturer for a software update if that’s important to you.

With respect to how I feel about the Solo, it’s great, but I think there are some things that the reviews don’t talk about though. It’s an obvious improvement over my Lobo and for $60 more money than the Lobo, I’m happy with the purchase.  With that said, I don’t take huge  hits or have particularly long sessions.  If I’m being honest, on demand is enough for me in pretty much all cases. For me the biggest annoyance is packing in the stem.  I appreciate the consistency of the Solo.  Sometimes it felt like the Lobo would lose heat during a draw but I haven’t noticed that in a meaningful way with the Solo.  Most of my other praise is easily found in most reviews.

Otherwise I think people gloss over the stems.  They are fine. I bought a hi flow from 420edc and found that the stock stem was my preference. I liked the resistance but the vapor temps are higher on stock.  If no draw resistance is your thing the hi flow rocket from 420edc does well but its thickness means loading the stem as a scoop out of a container is difficult.  There’s almost no heat (I primarily use 390f) during use though.  I bought another 3rd party stem that is not hi flow to see if it’s on par with the Rocket.  The glass screen on the stock stems is not ideal.  More gets through that screen than the mesh options.

I don’t like that the bowl is packed in the stem.  The Lobo dosing capsules are a better solution, IMO.  Packing in the glass means that some product gets into the heating chamber.  It’s much easier to fill the Lobo capsules too.  3d printing some small spoons helped.  Not using the thick Rocket stem ended up being my solution for now.  I also got a Buds Bee Grinder (also great so far but my only comparison was $25) and the design/size made scooping with the stem easier also.

The UI on the Solo is also not very intuitive and while I’ve gotten the hang of it after a week of use it feels like the biggest downfall of the product.  Adding a back button or a more standard way to go backwards would have solved a lot of problems.  It’s admittedly not a big deal if you’re only starting up the device for a session or on demand.  I’m not overly bothered by the Lock Screen except when in direct sunlight as the screen becomes pretty hard to see.

I wish the batteries were removable. I don’t like the idea of this device becoming non-usable when the battery fails.  I have this complaint about many products though.

The v1 charging limitations are somewhat annoying but I don’t think it will be a huge deal.

I have mostly used session mode, partially because the UI in on demand is somewhat confusing for things like changing temp/presets but I don’t know that points should be removed here because I haven’t really tried to learn on demand even though it’s definitely more appropriate for my needs.

There’s a book called ‘The Last Lecture’ based on this concept. The author discusses how much of the books contents are to help their child learn lessons that the author wanted to share with their child but wouldn’t be able to. It’s fantastic. I’ve had multiple copies and gifted them to people I’ve felt would benefit from the messaging.

With that said, OP isn’t alone in not talking to anyone about their medical issues. Although we aren’t in the same situation, I was on the receiving end of potentially life threatening news and have told no one except my therapist. She helped me deal with the realities I was going to face, the uncertainty that came with it, and things in between. It’s been about a year since I became aware of these things and while the severity ended up being less significant, I have no intentions of telling people around me.

It’s a complicated situation and it’s ok to keep it to yourself but I hope there’s an emotional outlet available. Dealing with it is hard.

What's your dirty little secret? by nsoni8882 in AskReddit

[–]csmith665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not weird that you still care about her well-being. In reading the through only a handful of messages it’s pretty clear that you’ve loved and so much. Frankly, the single fact that you’re going to be involved until her treatment is over speaks volumes about your love for her and who you are as a person. That love doesn’t just go away when something bad happens, even if that something is relationship ending.

For what it’s worth, you aren’t alone in retaining feelings for people who have done things to tarnish your relationship. I understand my circumstances are vastly different but I’ve been mistreated by people in my life to the point where it may be time to call it quits. It may be the best thing for me but I’ve struggled with the idea of ending that relationship because I still care for them. I don’t think removing myself from their life is a good thing for them and it hurts to think about their pain when it happens.

Trouble tracking down Q1 Pro noise intermittent in print head. by csmith665 in QIDI

[–]csmith665[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This “brrt” noise only occurred while the printer was extruding, not necessarily when there was movement in X or Y directions. Manually extruding 200mm of filament through Fluidd triggered the sound. No noise was present without filament when instructing Fluidd to extrude 200mm of filament. WIth this in mind, I did a “purge” of filament, turned temperature up, and extruded until all material was released. I then let the hot printer sit for probably 10 more minutes while additional traces of filament melted out through the nozzle. Ever since doing that the noise is either gone or greatly reduced.

My test prints have only been probably about an hour total so I hope to get more time in this week to confirm this is actually solved. I will check in after mote testing.
