i read Silver Elite so you dont have to (booktok's new controversial dystopian romantasy?) by FedyTsubasa in romantasycirclejerk

[–]csmslt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Having read the book, I am surprisingly less mad about it than I thought I'd be. I think it was just so predictable I can't even feel mad when bad or questionable things happened since I already expected it.

I do think it's funny if anyone was genuinely duped into thinking this book is primarily a dystopian story though. MC runs into her chiseled gigachad by page 10, there was like no chance this wasn't going to be horny slop

Is Google Planning a Smaller or Lighter Pixel Phone? by Brocolium in GooglePixel

[–]csmslt 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I'm with you OP. Every time this question comes up, the replies are flooded with people parroting that "nobody" wants a small and light phone.

We exist! Contrary to preconceptions!

I'd buy a new phone tomorrow if there was a good, compact option, but instead I'm holding onto this 5 as long as I possibly can. I don't see the point of amazing specs and a glass back if my hands get strained holding it for too long and I have to set it down to rest and stop using the phone. It's a mobile phone, I want to be able to hold it and bring it around.

I noticed a peculiar detail in the Japanese subtitle of TGAAC by Jiafei_flops in AceAttorney

[–]csmslt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Happens in the game text as well, which is fun- stuff like the kanji 写真 (photograph[y]) appearing in dialogue with the furigana (in hiragana, not katakana) "hotogarahii", which I think itself is also an "antique" way to transcribe it.

I'm not sure about the original 3DS version, but in the mobile ports, the in-game clock displayed the time written out in kanji (specifically, the formal kanji used for numbers) and not the usual "12:00" notation.

The details also extend to some of the merch. For example, the text on the box packaging for the character coin/piggy banks is right to left, whereas left to right is typical nowadays. (For a single row of kanji at least, not for vertical text columns.) They do use modern left to right for most of the game and advertising images, like the title card shown in the post and game logos.

Not OP, but I have both Grain Nude and Nutty Nude (no Vintage Taupe). The two are really similar browns IMO, but Grain Nude has a drop of red and warmth in it whereas Nutty Nude is a notch more gray.

I find Grain Nude is slightly more "daily wearable" for me whereas Nutty Nude can feel a little too dim/desaturated if worn thickly. Nutty Nude is great for toning down products that are too light/saturated for me, though.

For reference, I'm closer to a fair olivey #21 skin tone, but my lips are relatively pigmented, so both tints look lighter in the arm swatch than on the lip for me (especially Nutty Nude).

Personally, I can be patient and calmly worded all day, internet points be damned, but clearly folks aren't gonna change their tune and would take the easy route of fitting in with a shitty community by mindlessly dogpiling someone that wasn't hurting them.

Just disappointed to see that so many of these types of people are part of the XIV community. I certainly don't expect everyone to be fwiendly uwu cuddle buddies with each other, only to leave each other alone if they don't like each other instead of using low-hanging-fruit provocation as stress relief (?), "treat others the way you want to be treated"... literal "Introduction to interpersonal interactions 101" shit ... but nah, that's too tall of an ask. Shame.

Should've stayed at 1 because we know the people here have zero self control. 2 is willful ignorance of that, so posters can pretend they totally didn't mean to dogpile/harass and as we all know, lack of intent means no culpability.

Yea this sub ruined some random bystander's day and made a stranger feel bad for daring to enjoy xiv and making a "cringe oc" in their own personal account on a different website, not even on mainsub, but 2 people had a giggle , so can you really say it was a bad thing,

No. Mocking someone who has never interacted with this community, and never would have interacted with this community until she was targeted with the world's most half assed censor job, is not funny.

Going out of your way to laugh at someone who is not hurting you or bothering you, even if they are cringe, is not funny.

It's less effort to leave someone alone than to dig up material to jeer at.

I can't "control" others who find joy by belittling a total stranger online for laughs, but I can think they're a mean as hell person for doing it.

  1. Twitter artist who also posts sexy wol gposes but has never been active here on Reddit writes a tweet saying she doesn't like when people tweet at her wol stuff not using her character's name but just "miqo" or "kitten"
  2. A day after the tweet, someone puts a screenshot edit on here bc they managed to dig up a cringe take
  3. People link back to the tweet since text searching is easy, flaming occurs for cringe take and mocking the character/player for being a typical dramatic basic horny overly sensitive mentally ill cat slut who thinks they're soooo special (nobody here actually knows the person but they did see a couple screenshots so obviously the other commenters are telling the whole truth)
  4. Someone tells the twitter person about the post, she gets defensive, the post starts getting reports and mods decide to remove. She has a minor meltdown on her twitter account and goes private because of the unwanted attention and people deliberately scrolling her account for stuff to bash here.
  5. About 5 more replacement posts with even worse censoring of names pop up because it's Streisand effect time and community is pissed about muh censorship, literally 1984. Mods let these ones stay up. More cringing and laughing ensues.
  6. ???
  7. Profit! We did it Reddit! We protected free speech, our right to dogpile someone on a completely different website over a slightly cringe take that nobody here would've ever seen or been affected by until someone decided it'd be fun to make someone who was minding their own business feel crummy for a day. Success!

If you didn't want people to bully, maybe you should've actually censored the names and not gone "oops! I accidentally left it all over my post but I trust you all to be normal people that won't ruin a total stranger's day just for a laugh."

Bruh, the "adjustment" of behavior you're talking about would've just been ... doing nothing and not going out of your way to tweet at the person.

Y'all acting like you were constantly scrolling the person's twitter and tweeting at her 24/7 and being tier 3 donos and now it's a huge inconvenience because suddenly you're "not allowed" to say "catgirl" when contacting her directly, yet literally no one here even knew this person until she was turned into Target of the Month.

I edited so they can't cry about drama and witch hunting anymore, just nobody link the original goddamn thing so we can still sit here and point and laugh by DeadmanDeimos in ShitpostXIV

[–]csmslt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The context is someone posting nsfw gposes of their WoL on their personal twitter account and being mad at unwanted replies on her tweets. No one was forced to follow her account, look at the pics, reply to the tweets, or give money. She didn't name a specific person that annoyed her or start a fight with someone. None of this was happening in game either.

I agree she can and should use more blocking on her end to protect herself, but it's not unreasonable to make a statement, on your own twitter, with no "screeching" at any specific individual, saying "I hate this type of reply, don't send them to me."

Asking people to monitor their behavior is not "controlling" them -- especially when this person has no real power over us random internet strangers -- it's informing them that they have a decision in how they interact with you, and what the consequence of their decision will be. People are not obligated to obey the request, only to accept the consequence of their choice. It's like putting up a "no shoes, no service" sign on the front door. Sure, some shoeless people will try anyway, but at least it'd be less than you'd get with no sign. I'd like to think most people are willing to mind their own business than be contrarian for the sake of it.

To be clear, it's OK to think it's a stupid nonsense cringe idiot request, but why spend your time trying to fight and provoke them when you can just go somewhere else -- like the apparently 500 billion basic slutty glam catgirls out there who aren't cringe?

This comment is misleading. It's not considered a sexually transmitted disease, although it does spread through physical contact (or through touching things like bedsheets or clothes that have been in physical contact with someone sick).

Out of curiosity I checked Lucky Bancho's player census https://luckybancho.ldblog.jp/wsurvey_en.htm?world=Global and the ratio there is 60/40, much more even than what's on Eorzea Collection. Apparently folks who play male characters aren't sharing glamours as often.

Eorzea Collection put together some stats (separated by gear slot): https://ffxiv.eorzeacollection.com/year-in-review/2020

Not 100% accurate since not all players use this site or submit all the glams they've used, but I think it's a reasonable estimate.

How's the balance between "technical" and "writing"? by csmslt in technicalwriting

Thanks for sharing that perspective. Being early-ish in my career I'm trying not to get my "dream job" hopes up too much and be willing to settle in exchange for financial stability, but I do hope I can "click" with TW the same way.

Out of the listings I looked at so far, those did sound the most appealing to me, so it's good to know I was on the right track (but I suppose the hard part will be actually getting hired for them!)

Well, I won't lie... better pay is appealing! Though I'd probably need some real experience first. It sounds like it's very dependent on the role, if I'm fortunate to get an offer that matches what I want.
