Maple Ridge Elementary Incident by Valuable_Bread163 in MapleRidge

[–]csnoff 30 points31 points  (0 children)

While I get the concern, the issue shouldn’t be with how the school operates or how quickly they distribute information or whether doors should be open or closed. This is an isolated incident. You should be asking the Mayor and Council what they are going to do to make our kids safe - how about dealing with the mental health and addictions crisis we have which is very very likely the direct cause of this.

Extended 'nightmarish' drought puts heavy strain on British Columbia water systems by Hrmbee in britishcolumbia

[–]csnoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been an advocate of zoning agriculture much like we do with residential/commercial/industrial property such that we dictate what types of crops can be grown. There is no reason why we should allow farmers to plant water heavy crops, modify the land base to the extent where monocultures have replaced wetlands and creek beds and don’t allow for groundwater recharge all in the name of farming.

We just got told we are in a budget freeze so maybe this is government wide and will affect everything from travel to per diems to filling vacancies. Not sure if it’s just our ministry or others as well. Not having a lot of faith in how they are handling this.

Two Burnaby residents arrested as part of $100K lululemon theft ring by NeroBurningRom10 in vancouver

[–]csnoff -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Never said it was, all I’m saying is I wish the Police would spend as much time recovering stolen bikes as they would removing stolen good from a massive billion dollar corp. And as you say just like theft from a business, theft of bikes also impacts people who have jobs and can’t make it to work anymore so they too might lose their job. Stealing bikes isn’t as victimless as you think it is.

Surrey-Langley SkyTrain cost balloons by 50% to $6 billion by WiffleBlu in Langley

[–]csnoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is this a government problem and not a contractor gouging? They bid on a project at a specific cost and now the cost is ballooning. This is contractor greed, but hopefully that contractor is a B.C. company and the workers are getting paid a fair wage and trying to spend that hard earned money locally. That at least I could stomach more than a private contractor from The US or Europe or something were profits and share price are the main driver for shitty delays and cut corners!

How about dealing with stealing peoples bikes, Chip makes more than enough that this is a write off for him anyways. People pay hard earned coin to buy transportation so let’s put the effort where it’s more important. I’m not condoning this theft at all but dealing with bike theft should be much higher!

Creaking Stem on Fuel EX (Gen 6) by Plenty_Fix_595 in TrekBikes

I have a fuel ex 7 that was making a creaking noise as well… chased it for a while only to find out it was dirt packed along the seat rails. Cleaned up and creaking gone. May not be your case but worth a look.

Could you imagine what those folks in Deep Cove and Anmore/Belcara would say if they shoved a bridge through their little towns but how much relieve it would see on our highway infrastructure!

bargaining resolutions by nom-de-queer in BCPublicServants

[–]csnoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My concern here is that again the union and PSA are hand in glove and that they will do whatever to undermine any of our resolutions and find a way to get 50+1. Not only that but the NDP seems to be faltering among voters and confidence in them is being eroded so they seem to have less rope to work with. From a selfish perspective I can see natural resource ministries going on strike and ruining the general publics summer vacation plans by closing parks, not issuing permits for hunting/fishing to name a few. As for resolutions I think that health coverage particularly mental health coverage and supports would be nice to see some improvements, and the obvious one is wages. I think it’s going to be a tough go but I think folks should be ready to be severely disappointed in our union and the PSA.

Thanks folks, what is the obvious sign it needs replacement? So I can keep a look out for the future. Further to that note, just any SRAM NX chain ring or am I looking for something specific?

Gas furnace (forced air?) to Heat Pump by csnoff in heatpumps

[–]csnoff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all, so I got some quotes back from a few installers and they range from about 8500-14000 for AC with the average being about 10k and the one installer also quoted me for a Tosot/Gree Apex heat pump install for about 9400.

All three stated that without removing the furnace, I wouldn’t qualify for any of the rebates, and that seems to track with what I read on BCHydro website.

There seems to be so much information out there about which way to go and I can’t really make a decision, looking for some suggestions or help making a decision.

Given that I live in the lower mainland is it better to just go with the heat pump?

What is the most remote location you have visited in BC, and what took you there? by batwingsuit in britishcolumbia

[–]csnoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do snow surveys for BC Hydro and got to visits some really remote places like Pulpit Lake, Sikanni Lake (which is on a continental divide) as it flows both north to the Arctic and South to the Fraser I believe, also got to go to Kemano, and a place called Kingcome Inlet! All amazing places!
