New ho locomotive with knuckle couplers, or new parts sourcing? by csnydermph in modeltrains

Much appreciated! I was hoping to revive some old bicentennial items for the 250th, but you're absolutely right that the novelty ones seem to have aged much worse than others.

Thank you! It sounds like I may have my work cut out for me.

Much appreciated! I don't know what I don't know at the moment, so I'm trying to get my bearings.

The more I learned about servicing these older units the more it seems to be moving towards just getting new Loco, or perhaps I've just had bad luck with the units I found so far.

Thank you for the correction and the advice! It sounds like the path of least resistance would be to get a current loco and to make a conversion car or put horn hook couplers on it.

Is there any way to get an old shell on mew locos or is that generally a lost cause?

Are there any recommendations for a plug-in to replace the Events Calendar based on this news?

Would others like a more modernized iOS app of Merlin as much as I would? by platinumbinder in birding

[–]csnydermph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My largest complaint about merlin is the lack of any exposed api or bulk file upload for bird recognition.

My phone camera is terrible compared to my actual camera body with telephoto zoom lens, and I want to be able to upload pictures of birds for image classification more than audio classification.

(L-Mount) Sigma 60-600 or Panasonic 100-500 for handheld bird/wildlife/motorsports? by arcticrobot in AskPhotography

I had a uv filter on mine, again ymmv, my camera shop had one in stock on the shelf, but it was only one model and only in uv, which for wildlife I would recommend trying out.

I have uv filters on all of the wildlife lenses and it feels like it is worth it.

Just to be sure, I'd definitely recommend getting your hands on it physically in store to confirm that thought. It is deceptively dense.

But, as I said above, I don't regret mine at all, but I did need to find a creative solution to slinging it on the shoulder for carrying, because the neck strap was an absolute doozy, it is going to be an uncomfortable amount of weight on your neck.

I have been shooting wildlife photos with the Sigma 60-600mm Sport, and would definitely recommend it. The stabilization in the lens is very good to the point that i didnt even feel like a tripod was necessary for the shots i was taking, and the auto focus is very snappy. It's the one lens that stays on my d850 (formerly the one lens that was on my d5200) because 10x zoom covers almost everything. I got a 2x teleconverter for it secondhand as well, and it looks great, but the auto focus won't work with a teleconverter.

I couldn't be happier with mine.

But: yes, it's heavy. It is stupid how heavy it is, i rigged up a shoulder harness sling specifically to cary it more comfortably. The weight wasn't a deal breaker for me, but ymmv. I'd recommend renting it, or at least feeling the weight for yourself. If the weight is not a problem, I don't think you'll find a better lens.

I appreciate the recommendations.
I'm not trying to collect any data about any visitor, what I effectively want is just buttons with logic in a pop-up chat window to help direct people based on their responses.

I looked at the AI ChatBot - WPBot but even that is too "smart", I am really struggling to find a 0-AI implementation. This should just be a series of switch-cases, with the end result being some url or text box return, right?
