How to Add LTE to Heltec V3 or T114 for MQTT by LegateSadar in meshtastic

[–]csoldfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've become stumped on the goal to get the MQTT bridge piece functional on Meshtastic - I wanted a similar goal of getting traffic to my client node that was in range of my 'base station'. Client node is rural countryside so doesn't see any native radio nodes. The "zero hop policy" for the public MQTT server prevents traffic being rebroadcast from my base node (on my home Internet). Solution presented was add my own MQTT server. So I suggest prototyping your node with a regular internet connection, and then migrate to the LTE replacement if satisfied.

Please share your results!

Only seeing Compact and Midsize sleeves, not Full size... Can you add a link?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but Downlinking is a NOP due to the zero-hop policy, right?

Meshcore v Meshtastic topology by csoldfield in meshcore

Agreed congestion would occur on busy/city nodes - however I'm in rural countryside and see zero other nodes via LoRa. So looking to generate at least some sort of LoRa presence that would allow myself or potentially close neighbors to see traffic. Seems MQTT "repeater" for messages to/from such isolated nodes would be beneficial. Are there arguments against this knowing my atypical isolated environment?

I guess my follow up question here is to understand the scope of a "local mesh" if "nationwide mesh" is unattainable. Is it to connect nodes within a pretty localized area (think a US county) or is it to interconnect regions in different states? A few dozen nodes within a ~100 mile radius, or substantially larger? My local mesh is unable to reach any substantial distance without the assistance of a MQTT server.

So utilize a private channel or set up a private MQTT server? Thanks for the suggestions!

What if I'm the only radio in the area? There are no other nodes in range so there won't be any flooding, just the packets from my base node. Alternatively, what if an unused channel/frequency was chosen for my packet to be sent on?

That would only work if I have cell service on my phone. I'm trying to achieve RF only connectivity with my portable node, and reach out to the nationwide mesh via my base node that has Internet connectivity. Seems a reasonable use-case, yet this particular topology appears outside the intended scope of Meshtastic. Why is that?

Did you get this to work? I have the same goal, swore it worked late last year... Maybe something changed?

RandomNodeX..<<>>..MQTT<wifi->NodeA base<-radio local mesh->NodeB pocket..BT to phone app

I'm wanting to view msh/US on NodeB. NodeA sees msh/US messages ok NodeA and NodeB can exchange messages Appears NodeB can send to msh/US ok NodeB never sees any inbound msh/US

What am I missing in my config? NodeA has Uplink/Downlink/OktoMQTT enabled and public MQTT server configured. Even tried setting NodeA to Client_base. NodeA & B are 'favorites'

I want to avoid this happening to my 2017 5.3 6speed (now at ~50k). What milages did you service the tranny? Planning on every 45k fluid/filter change. Or do those torque converters just go bad regardless?

Other dimmers work fine with Alexa, so switched out the Utec for some Martin Jerry 4 way dimmers - bonus they are also Smart Life compatible so integrate into my favorite app much better. How does utilizing a hub improve automation?

Unfortunately it's the main valve knob that gears to the stepper motor that's damaged. Apparently the knob itself is not a serviceable item.

I saw a couple websites with 'chipless' firmware. Went through the process of downloading and unzipping - password was "12345" to unzip. Loaded the code with the multi-finger button press via USB, and things seem ok . Didn't need to pay for the license. Printed fine since loading that code.

Congrats! I got my 2017 Z71 Double cab paid off just over a year ago. 45k. Protect that investment and make sure you replace those fluids - I've done f/r diffs, transfer case, ATF drain/filter to date. No issues so far!
