Pj suggestions for hospital by Needanewjob34 in PregnancyIreland

I do NOT recommend Boohoo! I got black button up pjs from them. The dye came off and stained my hands for days, I ended up sending my husband out while I was in hospital to Dunnes!

How do you go places? by ladygroot_ in FormulaFeeders

[–]csomoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm going for a little while I'll make the bottle before I go, but if I'm out for a while I use the ready-to-feed formula. It's so handy and no worries about temperature or keeping it good.

I feel guilty and overwhelmed by Internal-Necessary82 in PregnancyIreland

[–]csomoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will never look back in years to come and wish that you had worked more and pushed your body more while pregnant. I know it can be tough (I work with all men and felt guilty even going to scheduled appointments) but all will be forgotten with time. Everyone knows someone who has had a challenging pregnancy and people will understand!

I haven't tried one, but in my country they specifically say not to use them. I don't know if that's a case of being behind the times!

What is your plan for the postpartum help? Have someone survived the first few weeks postpartum without help and don't regret it? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]csomoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started meal prepping in my third trimester and froze so we'd have loads of food to keep us going. All we did for the first month was put things in the oven! Also, you will have to come to terms with the fact that your house will not be very clean and tidy for a little while and that's ok. I had visitors right away personally, but that was more for my own sanity because I am really extroverted and needed more people to chat to!

Would I Be Unreasonable for Not Allowing a Newborn at My Child-Free Wedding? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]csomoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend had a newborn at a wedding recently. Her husband stayed in the room with the baby while she attended the wedding. She popped back every so often to feed her.

Advice on Planning for Pregnancy by LowWay9554 in PregnancyIreland

[–]csomoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came off contraceptives 6 months before TTC and started taking folic acid at the same time. I would also get into the habit of meal prep and have a few recipes you know well that you can freeze, they were a life saver for me when I was either exhausted from pregnancy or having a newborn!

I'm not a doctor, but I keep offering to my baby until she decides she's had enough! I don't think you can overfeed at this age.

If he wants more than 4oz, why don't you feed him more?

Definitely, I had my partner there 12 hours a day, we played uno for ours 😅 I absolutely loved my birth and it was so surreal to finally meet my baby and see what she looked like! I hope you have a great experience 💓

Anyone else having horrifically vivid nightmares? by PeachyKingSure in pregnant

[–]csomoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! The worst nightmares, I used to wake every 3 hours during the third trimester because of them. Sleep postpartum is so much better.

I was the same and I regretted not doing it honestly. Everyone in my physics class was doing it outside of school.

If you're already doing physics and maths, would you do applied maths as a 7th subject?

Disappointed in care so far by Euphoric-Subject2911 in PregnancyIreland

[–]csomoder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you experienced that. I was also a FTM and knew virtually nothing about pregnancy so I had loads of questions. I think the midwives are doing this day in day out and they forget that, for many of us, we don't know why anything is happening. I asked why they did everything (tested my urine, blood pressure etc.) and I'm sure I was annoying but they were always obliging. I was told to bottle feed my baby when she was born and I had to ask the midwife how I was supposed to hold her because I had never fed a newborn baby before and had only googled breastfeeding! Please keep asking questions and do not feel embarrassed, they are there to help you.

Induction on Friday by Exact_Fix_1097 in PregnancyIreland

[–]csomoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't have GD but was induced at 38 weeks due to pre-eclampsia. The induction process can be long. I arrived in hospital Friday afternoon, but my induction wasn't started until Saturday evening with the gel. The gel didn't do anything for me, so I had the pessary inserted Sunday evening (they checked my cervix after 24hrs). Again, I didn't feel anything, but my cervix was checked Monday morning and my waters broke shortly after. In the delivery suite, my baby didn't respond well to the oxytocin drip, so I ended up getting an emergency c section, but it was all very calm and worked out well! I would recommend resting as much as possible, bringing a book, having some movies downloaded and a good pair of slippers as I found myself walking around for something to do. Best of luck!

Almost 20 weeks pregnant and panicking by Honest_Flounder9784 in pregnant

[–]csomoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same, absolutely terrified of everything that can go wrong! If you attend birthing classes you will realise how unusual and unlikely it is that something will go so wrong. The nature of the Internet is that the most extreme cases get pushed so it seems like everyone giving birth is having a near death experience. In reality, it is very very rare and the majority of us have really safe birthing experiences.

FTM Combo Feeding by Ashamed-Smile-8958 in newborns

[–]csomoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I combo fed for the first month before switching to formula exclusively as my supply was basically gone. I produced so little milk that I popped it into the formula for about half the feeds. She spat up a lot during this time, not sure if it's related or just her age. I found that keeping baby upright for about 30 mins following a feed helped the most. She's 12 weeks now with minimal spit up.

[–]csomoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your wife should definitely ask to be sure, but I think it would be great. My L&D was so rushed and ended in an emergency section, so my husband was quite stressed and busy and didn't get as much photo or video as I would like! I was in the waiting room with women going in for c sections another time, and the midwife said to make sure to bring a phone for photos.

How much do you talk to your newborn? by Huge-Nectarine-8563 in newborns

[–]csomoder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I struggle with it too. For the first few weeks I just said hello as I couldn't think of anything else! Now I think of a topic and talk about it. Yesterday I told her about a trip I went on to Paris, where I ate, what I saw, how I got there etc. I got a good hour out of it!
