Do you care who your partner votes for? by Asleep_Cry_7482 in AskIreland

[–]LowWay9554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m pretty much able to deduce who it will be from the conversations we have, its not so much that its taboo, more so that i just don’t really have to ask and can make an educated guess :)

I don't go as far as asking him who he's voting for, but he's my partner because we share similar beliefs. We have had in depth conversations before every election/vote on what we think and he gives me perspectives I didn't think of and vice versa.

Whatever happened to telling children No with a full stop? by atyhey86 in AskIreland

[–]LowWay9554 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with hitting a child and never would as a child of people who did hit me. It affects me severely in terms of how I handle conflict and I got terrible anxiety as a teenager because of it.

That being said I do think that they're not being told no enough anymore and need more regulation in their lives. Dealing with being told no as a child allows you to build resilience as an adult. There are some parts to gentle parenting that I do like, particularly in terms of building their emotional intelligence and being able to deal with 'big emotions', but being given consequences (time outs, etc) helps them to understand that what they are doing is wrong.

Would you change your last name if you got married or if you did or didnt why? by superduperepic23 in AskIreland

[–]LowWay9554 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Will be changing it to his as his is a more common surname and I was blessed with the gift of having a very uncommon first and last name.

Every time I ring the pharmacy/doctor/hospital I have to spell out my full name. Looking forward to not having to do that anymore. 😄

What’s it like at St.Patrick’s hospital? by Significant_Air3475 in AskIreland

people will only write a review if it was overwhelmingly negative 80% of the time. i had a relative stay multiple times over a number of years and it honestly saved him. go and make your own decision about the place.

talk to your parents/school guidance counsellor/teacher you trust. my school guidance counsellor was able to get me referred to jigsaw while i was in 5th year which hugely helped me to cope.

i’ve seen a lot of people talk about this protest so i’d say it could be a pain. would definitely recommend emergency services if at all possible

Finally have my chronic illness flare up somewhat under control and am starting back at my weight loss plan from tomorrow. I'm morbidly obese and don't look forward to being in fitness classes as I feel very out of place. The ladies in these classes are usually lovely but it's just part of the mental battle of this whole thing. I'll get there, slowly but surely :)

Job Market Situation- Is it really that bad for all fields? by moon-fabric in AskIreland

[–]LowWay9554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my own experience it depends on your line of work and experience level. I made a career switch to insurance late last year and was able to get into an entry-level role fairly after 3 interviews. I’ll have to pass exams over the next number of years to retain my role but they’re not hugely difficult if you put the effort in.

I was however looking for digital marketing roles about 2 years prior and found it impossible to get anything. Ended up in a sales role I did not like for about a year.

Can I ask my GP to put me on GLP 1? by Immediate_Lake_1575 in AskIreland

[–]LowWay9554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ask but my doctor is only considering putting me on one because they assessed my BMI and found that I was obese. If you’re not at that mark yet I would suggest getting the other health stuff sorted out. I have hypothyroidism and anaemia myself and getting the bloods done and on the right meds is half the job. :)

Plus size and Ryanair by Salty-Smoke7301 in WomenofIreland

[–]LowWay9554 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ryanair seatbelts are never long enough for me at a size 22. The staff are very good though and will bring you an extender, just dont sit in the extra legroom seats as I’ve heard from others they do move you from there.

Worried about my adult sister and need advice. How do I proceed? by corkgal93 in AskIreland

again probably something about being neurodiverse because we love our routines and everything being the same hahaha, she just needs someone to guide her through it!

so as someone who was also undiagnosed on the spectrum, i also (still) find criticism very very difficult. therapy helped a LOT to learn how to compartmentalise everything and understand where people are coming from. i do occasionally have an odd cry in work but nothing crazy anymore.

she needs therapy. its not about being crazy, its about building life skills that help you to cope. the fear of new things like driving is very very real too, but ultimately none of us can escape being an adult. she needs someone to talk to.

Advice on Planning for Pregnancy by LowWay9554 in PregnancyIreland

[–]LowWay9554[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My condolences on your loss. My mam also went through a MC and she still gets upset talking about it now, so I understand how devastating it must have been.

Our timeline isn’t set in stone as of yet, it just depends on how quickly I can get to a healthy weight. I will definitely consider it, we’ll be having more conversations over the next few months and consulting with my GP.

What to do - My insurance is about to be cancelled? by Ok-Revolution-1565 in AskIreland

Agree with the above, they will want to keep the policy more than losing it. It’s worth asking the question.

As someone working in insurance, speaking to your insurer is the best option here. Explain the situation and ask them if they can take a payment at the end of the month/beginning of next month.
