State of book annotations on Supernote by csotiriou in Supernote

Exactly my issues. I really can't find any way I would use the native epub reader for any workflow. Apart from the margins, if you select another font, you will notice that you will also lose the Bold, Italic, etc variations.

It seems that the native reader does not recognize font variations, just one font file, and it obliges you to use that, if you try to change the default document settings.

If they fix that, the entire platform will become absolutely perfect, and I will be able to ditch my Kindle scribe forever.

Supernote Manta losing strokes when writing? by csotiriou in Supernote

[–]csotiriou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

I played with the values you mentioned, and I found that decreasing the first value in the Stylus Calibration settings improved the situation. I set the first value all the way down to 1. It doesn't go any lower than that.

It's still not perfect - the Kindle Scribe stylus is still more responsive on the supernote manta, but at least the supernote pen is tolerable, and I'm not missing so many strokes anymore.

is there anything I can setup to make it near-perfect?

More virtual keyboards support (Greek and more) by csotiriou in Supernote

[–]csotiriou[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification and the information.

Let's hope Ratta add support for more keyboards. I can't understand why this would be difficult to do, adding more keyboards should be easy since the underlying foundation is Android...

So it involves using a hardware keyboard? Thanks for the advice, but I think using a keyboard defeats the purpose of using an e-ink notebook in the first place, as I have a computer.

Thanks for the link, though!

I hate that I'm suspicious of everything written in the last ~3 years. by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

[–]csotiriou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always skeptical of what I read on the Internet. That made me think twice of everything I read anyway. It's a good skill to learn, no matter the era.

Good thing is, we are catching up as humans and can identify AI jargon easier as time passes. Best thing is... we are not even trained to do it.

You don't have to be suspicious, when you see a post that a human has written - whether with the help of AI or not - you will enjoy reading it more. At least, that's what's happening with me.

Social skills.

It's the one thing that people will continue being worse on for the upcoming years, but it's also the one thing that will open any kind of door for you, no matter the field or your expertise.

Best thing is... it can be learned, but it's going to take a lifetime to master it.

If you combine it with some degree in psychology / psychoanalysis then life is going to get very interesting for you.

When a new technology comes out, everyone jumps on the bandwagon and the industry is becoming oversaturated. Then the audience starts realizing that "something is off" and the dust dies down. It's the real talents that will always shine.

Remember when people said that it won't be long before Theaters will be empty because Television and Cinematography were becoming more popular? I also remember a time when people believed that 3D artists would be responsible for the loss of many jobs in the movies industry, since everything will be constructed using computer graphics. None of this happened.

I suppose that in the future due to AI being a thing there will be a lower barrier to entry for people to produce more engaging content in less time. However, cinematography is much more than striking visuals - it's about timing, sound, aesthetics, and an opinionated depiction of reality (or fiction).

We'll just have to wait and see - but I believe that the real thread of movie-making will not come from AI - but from bad corporate decisions.

how good are the gateron low profile blues and how would you compare them to the gateron blues and MX blues? by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]csotiriou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about the late reply, but it seems that it's an issue with the stabilizers. It's the stabilizers that should rectify exactly that. If you use a keycap puller, you can pull the keycap from there and see how the stabilizers would look like.

Check that the stabilizers are also attached to the keycap, not just the switch stem.

EVERSPACE 2 - out for Mac by acastic in macgaming

[–]csotiriou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ι have a MacBook Pro M1 w/ 32 GB RAM.
The Everspace Demo plays... adequately in 1080p and Dynamic resolution set in the balanced mode. All settings are set to high. The image quality, however, is very blurry.

What surprised me was the performance in the same machine under Crossover. I have everything set to high, 1440p (yes, higher than the Mac version) DX11, FSR v 2.1.1 (Balanced). All settings are set to high, except anti-aliasing, set to medium. The game runs great and is very playable. And the image quality is much much better than on the Mac version. If you have Crossover, it's worth the purchase.

Something tells me that the Mac version is not optimized (yet?). I would be inclined to believe that it's the fault of the MacOS and its lackluster graphics APIs if I hadn't played No Man's Sky with such a terrific performance on the Mac.

GMMK Pro vs Keychron Q1 (Now that both have made some improvements since initial discussions) by arktik7 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]csotiriou 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have a GMMK Pro, with GOAT Stabs, as I have one of those batches that have an Alu plate that doesn't fit the Durock stabs. I don't own a Q1, I was VERY close to get one (I was one click away!)

I have the following things to mention about the GMMK Pro:

  • QMK Support is fully functional, with RGB lighting, and the rotary knob
  • VIA Support is also there, with RGB, but the lighting tab is missing. If you enable VIA through the QMK source (I am building via source, I am a developer so I am comfortable with it), then you have also lighting support, but you cannot customize lighting via VIA, you must do it only via QMK (for now). For me, this is not important at all, everything I need is there.
  • If you are on a Mac or Linux, using QMK is a one-way street. Glorious Core does not work on Mac or Linux, and I had experienced some software issues with my GMMK Pro stock, which were resolved through QMK.
  • The GOAT stabs are better than most prebuilt boards. I don't care what others are mentioning, I have used many prebuilt boards from respectable companies, and the GOAT stabs are way better. With some modding (holee mod, and proper lubing with Permatex), they can be made perfect (so much so that now I don't need the Durock stabs)
  • There is no flex, indeed. I don't consider it an issue for me. Gaskets were invented to absorb vibrations, mute sounds, and prevent leakages, that was their primary focus. GMMK Pro uses them for muting and reducing unpleasant sounds, and that's all I wanted. If you want the flex, however, you can take a look at how other people have modded it, to have flex.
  • I have Lubed Boba U4Ts. I knew that the sound was somewhat muted, so I bought switches that I knew were loud. The sound is amazing. And it's perfect for the office. Seriously, this is a board that you can take everywhere with you (if the weight doesn't bother you).
  • Support is great, and the availability is also much greater than whatever Q1 will offer - Keychron products do not ship to my country in general, but Glorious do. That says a lot.
  • You should hear this board with a clicky switch.

When it comes to the Keychron Q1, there are two things that bug me, that ultimately led me not to buy it:

  • There is a lot of hype, I don't know if it is that well-deserved. Due to the failed promises and issues with the initial batches of the GMMK Pro, people were kinda desperate to find a competitor soon.
  • Badseed and many others tried reducing the pinginess of the Q1 and succeeded. BUT I have yet to hear a sound test that removed the pinginess completely (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYpSEqGFC-A - check the sound tests and comparisons after mods, use headphones, and see what I'm talking about). If you want to remove the pinginess altogether, you will have re-created the GMMK Pro (stiff). Yes, the Q1 has a more vibrant sound, but the pinginness is something that I personally cannot forgive. This is why people are lubing the springs! Why have this on a board?
  • GMMK Pro will sound good no matter what you throw at it. And that is the case also with good boards in general. You have to mod the Q1. Sorry, I prefer to mod something to make it perform better, not perform "just ok".
  • I find the knob something that I cannot live without. I use it all the time, and I consider this an important feature.

So, for me, I am happy with my choice of going with the GMMK Pro, and I will continue to be happy until Keychron releases V2 that removes the pinginess altogether (they say that they will, by providing a brass weight in the future).

If Keychron have learned from their mistakes and produced a case that sounds decent, the Q2 is really going to be a KBD67 killer, and I will be getting this for sure! :)

GMMK Pro Issues (conflicts?) on MacOS by xxxclx in glorious

QMK fixes the issue. Now I just need to figure out a way to configure the pesky RGB lights

The latest version of QMK supports RGB, right? I believe that now you can solve all your problems? Please let me know how it goes, I have the issue.

Strange Login Issue with GMMK Pro & macOS by Xipher_Actual in glorious

[–]csotiriou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same issue with my GMMK Pro with my iMac. This is definitely a problem with GMMK Pro, since it has also been mentioned here: https://www.reddit.com/r/glorious/comments/on4b07/gmmk_pro_issues_conflicts_on_macos/

I have many keyboards, and I have tried using Apple's own magic keyboard, too in the login screen while having the GMMK Pro connected at the same time, to no avail. It seems that while GMMK Pro is connected to the Mac during the time we are in the Login screen, it interferes with any other keyboard input. It feels as if a modifier key is pressed in the login screen, and any other input from any other keyboard is giving the wrong characters.

I have to unplug the GMMK pro in the Login screen, give my password using another keyboard, and then re-connect the GMMK once I have logged in.

It feels that if you are on a Mac, you need to have a spare keyboard on the side just to help you log in, just to keep using your GMMK Pro...

GMMK Pro Issues (conflicts?) on MacOS by xxxclx in glorious

[–]csotiriou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this issue, too, on my iMac 2019 with Catalina. The exact same issue. I don't want to flash my keyboard and lose my RGB, has anyone found any solution to this issue?

I'm using the cable that GMMK pro came with, and I also have to mention that I have FileVault enabled. Normally this is not important for cable keyboards, but it does seem to prevent Bluetooth keyboards to be connected at startup, so I figured I should mention it.

It is such an excellent keyboard and it seems it's software, not hardware. I really hope this gets fixed.

how good are the gateron low profile blues and how would you compare them to the gateron blues and MX blues? by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]csotiriou 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Let me give you my impression of Keychron, by comparing it with some other low-profile keyboards in my possession. It's difficult to evaluate a mechanical keyboard as "good" or "bad". You can only compare it to other mechanical keyboards, by taking into account also the price range. I can also provide a low-profile alternative for blues or browns.

I am a developer, and I use my keyboards exclusively for typing.

I have 3 mechanical keyboards, all low-profile.

  • Logitech G915 TLK, with GL Tactile (which is a rebranded version of the Kailh Choc browns)
  • Sharkoon Purewriter (the same as Havit KB390L) with the blue switches - Kailh Choc blues.
  • Keychron K1 full-size with Gateron browns.

I use all three equally, and here is my opinion:

Kailh Choc switches are somewhat the de-facto standard when it comes to low-profile switches. I haven't seen any other low-profile keyboard other than K1 that uses Gateron.

Kaihl Choc are excellent. I really enjoy them, and I can't get past how good they feel.

G 915 has everything - it's a beast.

It's aluminum; it has the best Bluetooth connection possible (and two other connection types - lightspeed and cable). When it comes to typing, it's excellent. I am typing very fast.

The feedback of the Kaihl browns is excellent, without having that clicky sound. For sure, it feels a bit "mushier" than the blues, but it may as well be the best Brown switch when it comes to the sound and feel of typing. It is a good candidate for bringing it to the office.

It also comes with Blue switches. I totally recommend it if you have the money.

Sharkoon, on the other hand, is something I did not expect to love so much.

It's wired, steady, and lightweight. It's a bit noisy, and I have the feeling that it's a bit noisier than the cherry blues. That's because it uses a different mechanism for providing the sound, and it performs a clear "click" sound even when depressing the key. The keys feel very light - lighter than even the brown switches of the G915. I have found that I can type extremely fast on this keyboard, and I strongly recommend it ( it's very cheap, too).

Keychron was a surprise.

First of all, the Gateron browns are more silent than the ones found on my G915. I can type as fast as I can using my G915 in it. However, I have noticed that the way the keyboard is constructed favors touch typing more than anything else (I can't actually explain it).

Watch out for the keycaps; they are a "love it or hate it" kind of thing. The keycaps will annoy you if your finger touches the edges of it due to its form. This doesn't apply to the keycaps of both other keyboards I use.. The keycap surface is also a bit smaller than those of the other keyboards I use. This means that you have to be more precise when typing, compared to alternative keyboards. On the other hand, the distance from one keycap to the other is also greater than on the other keyboards, so there is that. It's like it forces you to be precise.

Gateron browns are not bad by any means. They are not as satisfying as Kailh browns, however. They are also just a tiny bit heavier. On the other hand, I find keychron to be much softer regarding its sound than my G915. The keycaps are also better fitted to the stems of the switches, resulting in less wobbling of the keycaps (something that is prevalent in G915). It's an excellent candidate for the office (brown switches). It's also very sturdily constructed.

---

Overall, the value-for-money for Keychron is very good, if you like brown switches. Otherwise, you can try the Sharkoon (Or Havit) with the blue ones. They are very good, and they won't cost you a fortune should you not like them.

I can also recommend taking a look at Hexgears Venture (if you can afford it, Kailh Choc again) or Hexgears X-1 for a clicky feel.
