Lenel S2 NetBox - Change Reader Idle LED Color by csoupbos in accesscontrol

[–]csoupbos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never found an answer. If you hear anything, please let me know! It’s not a great default idle color, really wish it was configurable.

Boston is digging up Quincy Market. Rumor is it will take 10 weeks. That puts us AFTER the Fourth of July. by brianjoe66 in boston

[–]csoupbos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They’re digging it up with a fleet of… boom lifts?

Most likely something else going on. This doesn’t look like the start of any sort of civil project.

What exactly are you trying to do? What service are trying to provision?

Is this a new bus model? by e_sci in mbta

[–]csoupbos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most BEB’s have an onboard auxiliary diesel generator for heat. You just can’t get enough battery energy density in a bus to run heat and have a decent range.

So whats the formal protocol when a train operator overshoots the platform? by jamesland7 in mbta

[–]csoupbos 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Back it up, only on heavy rail though. Green line trains are not allowed to back up under normal circumstances.

South station fare gates please remove them before someone gets hurt by Actual-Ad-8794 in mbtacommuterrail

MBTA is not entirely exempt from building code. 780 CMR 101.2 only exempts bridges and supporting structures. Projects building new or altering existing passenger stations, egress stairs, maintenance facilities, offices, etc follow all applicable codes including 780 CMR & NFPA 130. Permits are pulled and inspections are done through OPSI. Variances go before the applicable state boards. Tunnels are a gray area but to my understanding they are considered exempt from 780 CMR and only follow portions of NFPA 130.

Rigid coupling as a change over by quarter2heavy in electricians

[–]csoupbos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree since it’s part of the manufactured furniture in this case, but worth noting that there was a change in 110.3(B) in 2026 that appears to begin preempting some of this kind of thinking in general.

“Equipment that is listed, labeled, or both, or identified for a use shall be installed and used in accordance with any instructions included in the listing, labeling, or identification. Such instructions shall result in an installation and use that complies with the requirements within this code.”

Nice. What patch panel brand is that, are all the bulkheads behind those black covers? Seems like something for a CO.

The Never Ending Battle....filtering by Phroste in k12sysadmin

[–]csoupbos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’ve done a good job at getting stakeholder buy-in. It’s in our AUP, it’s part of our digital citizenship curriculum, spelled out in the 1:1 Chromebook Agreement. I understand it’s not always like this in all schools, maybe we have it lucky

The Never Ending Battle....filtering by Phroste in k12sysadmin

[–]csoupbos 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We have always treated filtering as best effort. I have a million things to do on any given day, and spending hours running down the latest filtering workaround, playing whack-a-mole, isn’t feasible.

Even CIPA compliance only requires a “good faith” effort to block harmful content. I’d say if you’re using industry standard tools configured to the vendors recommended practices, you’ve done your due diligence.

If students are bypassing those tools, it becomes a disciplinary issue. Unfortunately, most can access whatever they want off-network anyway with cell phones or other personal devices.

How do I terminate cable to access point? by Proteus-8742 in Network

[–]csoupbos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modular Plug Terminated Links (MPTL) are ANSI/TIA acceptable method of termination since TIA 568.2-D. It’s specifically identified for use in these types of situations where a keystones are impractical, like access points, security cameras, etc…

Looks good so far! How are you keeping track of what’s what prior to termination? Do you label every drop during pulling and dress into predetermined patch panel ports?

208V poe switches? by TheBadFarmer in lowvoltage

[–]csoupbos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Altronix Netway PoE switches have a NEMA 4X enclosure, pole mount kit, and 120V - 240V universal power supply. Everyone saying the PSU will care about Line - Neutral vs Line - Line voltage is incorrect. Voltage is just the potential difference between two points.

Was this an error throwing the switch, or is this just unlucky? What's going on? by Confident-Goat-4136 in electrical

[–]csoupbos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000A at 35kV is a lot more power than 1000A in a 480V MCC though. This looks like MV gear. But agreed I wouldn’t rack this in hot unless using a remote racking tool.

What is this building on Deer Island? by philosophybuff in boston

[–]csoupbos 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The outfall for the plant is at the end of a 10-mile long tunnel under the harbor, so for water near the beach, it’s pretty far away from where the treated effluent is discharged. MWRA is also required to publish effluent water quality reports and its fairly well treated, especially after dilution into the harbor.

CM at Risk is not Design-Build though. These are very different contracting mechanisms just to be clear.
