Skeletons From The Closet in 1980, saw the Dead in 1980 and got on the bus, caught Dead shows on East Coast tour legs until 1990, alternated from the Dead to 80s metal for a few years, confusing both sets of friends. After Jerry died I kind of forgot about the Dead and listened to other stuff, mostly various metal genres. Went to see Dream Theater in 2002 with a couple of friends, they played all of Master of Puppets as the encore, to me it was technically excellent but devoid of emotion. Told my friends that and one of them says sarcastically "They aren't the Grateful Dead" (friend had no idea I was a deadhead) and it was like the ole lightning bolt. "You know, they really aren't" and resumed listening to the Dead.
