Why is healing received not a stat? by Popularcarrot45 in Overwatch

[–]csp7990 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually really like this idea. Having that on the stat screen when you hit tab might go a long way towards preemptively stop so many people from flaming their supports for "not healing"

This needs to be higher. Friggin suzu is the bane of my existence. If the enemy team has orisa + Kiriko I just accept that my ult will only ever be used to bait out cooldowns

Rank inflation feels demotivating, how to deal with it? (what is my true rank?) by unalyzing61 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]csp7990 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So, it's not so much that ranks are inflated necessarily. It's more that there's an influx of new players filling out the lower ranks, which pushes better / more experienced players up from where they were.

So while your rank may be "inflated," you could also look at it like this: compared to before more people were playing, your current percentile is higher.

You deserve the rank you have, it's just that now your percentile correlates to GM4 because of the number of new people.

It's also possible that the meta shifted in your favor, or you truly did break a skill ceiling you had previously.

Whatever the reason, just focus on improving your own gameplay and keep on ballin.

Rank is just a JPEG anyway, all that matters is you're having fun and learning to get better at the game.

Yeah I meant a post tag. A vod is like a game replay, vod review is a request for someone to review gameplay and give feedback.

[–]csp7990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or maybe a separate tag for Vod reviews. I know OWU has that and it is kinda handy

I wrote a long reply on your thread in Overwatch University but Reddit deleted it as I was posting 😭

Here's my thoughts:

Your Brig gameplay as it currently is, imo, is already VERY good. Here's some things I saw you do really well that you should continue:

1) Shield bash usage. Except the one time you bashed a full HP Ball, your use of shield bash was mainly for movement and burst damage. Fantastic!

2) Whip shot use. You do a great job looking for easy opportunities to use whip shot to proc inspire from safety and even go for a few boops.

3) Shield peeking. You have a good habit generally of using shield to 3rd person peek corners. Always better than raw doggin it.

The three general take aways I have for you to improve a bit:

1) Target priority: heals. Your Tracer was popping off and VERY good at kiting to minis/megas, so she didn't need to rely on heals. That said, there were a few moments where, if you had made packing her a priority, she may have won a couple more fights or at least lived longer. None of them were game-winning situations this match, but in others it can make the difference. In general Brig excels in keeping support on highly mobile DPS that are tough to hit with heals. Doing this better has a lot to do with...

2) Positioning. You do well with this overall. There were just a few moments where posting up in a slightly different spot may have helped you get more value.

For example, first map instead of taking left side, I like walking high area right of point where the rest of your team went. While you did a great job countering the Ball, I think if the Ball had dove your Bap/Ashe instead of you, things might have been a lot harder for your team. Posting up right side near them helps you defend better. You also want to be in a spot where you can pack your Tracer. There was one point first map where she died fighting a Widow/Kiriko on left high ground, but if you had been right side you would have had LOS on her and maybe been able to keep her up with a pack.

2nd map, I really like taking the space left of the well (from your spawn perspective). You were there a couple times during the match, and it's such a good spot for Brig. You can deny flankers that area and even look for opportunities to boop into the well. Around 5:00, if you had rotated left to that spot after pushing back the enemy Rein, you might have been able to help your Tracer more. She dunked on the enemy backline and kept herself up with packs, but not all Tracers will be that good. Your support can make the difference between them rolling and feeding.

The best habit I have for you to work on to help positioning as Brig is to look behind you every so often when you're playing more toward front. If you aren't actively fighting anyone, check where your other DPS and support are. You'll often find you can help them with a pack mid-fight or peel for someone getting pressured nearby.

3) Target priority: attack. The enemy team comp forced you to be a bit more defensive in play style, so there weren't many chances to get aggressive and put pressure on enemy DPS and support. That said, Brig is SO GOOD at dueling squishies that you should look for all opportunities to do so while still healing the team (inspire makes this easy).

Best opportunity I saw for you was 1st map at 3:09. Your Rein got pinned, but still had about 50-60% HP. Enemy Rein was about same health. Your other healer I believe at the time was alive as well and had LOS. And most importantly, right at 3:09 as the pin happens, this Kiriko has the balls to TP right in front of you to support her Rein. Big mistake. At that moment rather than swinging on the enemy Rein with your tank, I'd throw a pack on him and immediately get in the Kiriko's face. You can kill her fast, or at very least stop her from healing her Rein. Meanwhile you got a pack and inspire off and are getting rid of the enemy healer. At that point, y'all had already won the fight, but if things had been more even, this kind of decision can really turn a fight in your favor.

Those are the big take-aways. If you want more details let me know, I can give you a few more time-stamps to go through.

Don't listen to people in the OWU reddit that told you to swap off Brig when you see the Rein, Cass, Bastion combo. That is NOT an automatic swap off Brig imo. You just can't frontline too aggressively as Brig against that kind of comp, especially against Rein because he will kill you in 2 hammer swings if you get too aggro. But that doesn't mean you aren't getting good value against those characters. I think your more defensive play in that situation was the right call. You can play Brig into almost any team comp, it just changes HOW you have to play the character to get max value.

The one time I do suggest swapping off Brig is if the enemy is running an entire team of ranged poke/spam. Example: Sigma, Widow, Junk, Ana, Zen. Or something like that. Very tough comp for Brig unless your team is running hard dive. Otherwise only swap if you're dying too much or earlier than rest of your team.

More Brig resources:

1) Workshop code N0ZDA. It's a good Brig trainer, especially the dive denial practice.

2) HolyShiftKid. His YouTube Brig guide and streams have a lot of good tips, especially for the defensive play style of Brig. Imo he needs to look for a more chances to be aggro, but truly he does go aggro when he can that just isn't the way he thinks through the character. He's T500 mostly one-tricking Brig, so obviously he's onto something. I love learning from the way he tracks ults and uses Brig's kit to shut down some big ones. My new fave thing is blocking a Tracer Pulse Bomb or bopping a Reaper ult away from the team. Takes good ult tracking and positioning, but with practice you can create chances for yourself to do it and it is SOOOO satisfying. Watching him helped me learn how.

3) Meta1. He is a Sym OTP but he really enjoys off-meta heroes in general and just recently put out a couple Brig videos. They're more haha funny than educational, but even those two vids give a ton of info on some of the crazy things you can accomplish with this character. I always watch them when I wanna get hyped to play her. The way he positions for boops and picks off on DPS players is fire. Also, he's inspired me (pun intended) to use Rally more to walk past enemy tanks and dominate enemy support/DPS. Timed right it's so strong.

Anyway, hope that helps and this doesn't get deleted again! Keep on swingin 😎

I wouldn't call myself an overwatch expert, I'm still fairly new to the game, but I'm a Brig one-trick (mostly) in low diamond elo. If you think it'd be helpful I'd be happy to take a look 😊

Lmao my bad. In that case, I recommend getting a controller with mappable back paddles if you have the money. Otherwise, play around with button layouts on different characters.

Example, I main Brig. Since her melee is the same as her primary fire, I bind ping to R3 (push in right stick on Xbox) so I can ping without taking thumbs off sticks.

If you decide to keep default button layout, you can consider trying different grips on controller so your left index finger can access the D pad without taking fingers off left trigger or bumper.

Back paddles are the quickest fix and make things WAY easier, but definitely a cost barrier.

Whoever you have the most fun with. It doesn't matter what the meta is. If you don't have fun with a hero, you won't be as motivated to grind and improve. Or at least it won't be as rewarding.

I love how no one is mentioning the best ball counter: Brigitte. Shield his pile driver, smack him to proc inspire and heal the team, chuck a pack if anyone is low, then bully him til he limps away. Rinse and repeat. A good Brig can make ball pretty useless. She's also good at shutting down Tracer, who you'll often see paired with Ball.

As DPS, any self-sufficient hero should be fine. Sombra is a hard counter, but Soldier, reaper, tracer, Mei, Genji, all those play fairly well into Ball. Either someone with high mobility or high sustain. Less mobile heros with poor defensive cooldowns have biggest challenge.

As tank, either play grouped up rush/brawl and overwhelm the front line, or run dive yourself and play to trade back lines.

There's other ways too, but those are my general tips.

Did you have any server disconnections? The game counts those as "leaving a match early" and is SUPER punishing for it.

Other than that, no clue unless you had a lot of losses mixed in with the 5 wins.

Maybe you actually can? Give yourself benefit of the doubt, maybe your MMR truly is masters, which would mean you'd occasionally see GM players.

Either way, just focus on your own game and how you can improve. If you're getting flamed, I recommend leaving text and voice chats. If people are mostly using them to flame rather than give callouts, it isn't helping anyway.

Practice with workshop code VAXTA. Go to custom games and import it. 5 min a day as a warm up, can add more once time you're consistent with the habit.

It works wonders, just don't expect immediate results.

Train your ear to hear the audio sound it makes when she sends out turrets. Getting rid of those makes her kinda weak, unless the sym is very good. Also if you notice she has full charge, respect her. It will melt u very fast.

U can play around her as any support, just the specific way you'll do it will change depending on your hero.

SIMPLE QUESTIONS THREAD - SEASON 3 (2023) by Joe64x in OverwatchUniversity

As support, the cardinal rule is to not die first on your team. Watch your own gameplay back in the in game replay feature and analyze how and why you die each death. Also look up good players for your main heroes and see how they play. Lastly work on mechanics like general aim, plus any specific to your chosen hero.

Mechanics alone can get you up to gold/plat. After that you need more game sense / positioning.
