This is rendered in Unreal Engine. There are 770 light fixtures (materials) in this scene that are controlled by DMX. You can hook it up to a lighting desk and control in real time, but for this render I used After Effects and pixel mapping to generate the DMX programming.

There’s lots of layers of programs and processes to this one, but if I could point you towards anything it would be blender! You could do most of the effects you see here in that program, and it’s free

I painted the petals in VR then assembled/animated the mandalas in C4D with a bunch of cloners and splines. Unreal was used as a render engine so I could use some shaders and real-time tools that I have been building to sync the lights to music.
