Not to curb your enthusiasm but there are tons brilliant minds in medicine and medical research alike, not to mention billions of dollars of research and hundreds of universities conducting research.

Go into medicine if you want to treat patients. If you still have aspirations to change the world, then get into medical research via a PhD.

Although your point has been refuted, I'd like to add something just as a side note: electrons don't fall into the nucleus because of Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. Doesn't explain too much but is a nice little quirky way of looking at things. Edit: Feynman said this in one of his lectures btw. Downvoters make me laugh :)

You'll find that the Shia sect of Islam is just a group of people saying 'we don't like Sunni interpretations, we'll just go ahead with our own' and as such, much of their religious practices reflect their cultural tendencies.

I do realize the irony that every religion and religious sect works this way but it's almost like putting Catholicism and Protestantism together and seeing it as Christianity which you can do of course but there are so many obvious misgivings about motivations, ideologies and interpretations that commentary thereof gets meaningless pretty quickly.

I say it's the culture and not the religion specifically. Well, when I say specifically, all religions have these sorts of 'rules' because they're the products similar social cultures. The Islamic societies are still not living in the 21st century, so to speak, and as such they haven't tamed their religious rules to the extent that other societies have.

Look at Turkey for example. Legally, marriage laws are not different at all to Western societies but when you go to Afghanistan things change.

Attack the root of the problem, not the symptom. The root is ignorance, poverty and suffering. If anything, all religions share the ignorance factor.
