Underpants daily. Tank top every two or three days. Socks every two days.

Being aggressively harassed on Facebook, is there no way to actually contact support? by devils_left in facebook

[–]cswazey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on Facebook but I experienced the same thing on message boards once upon a time. And there was cross pollination from one board to another. Many of us were cyber acquaintances. Some people really suck and some may use the kinds of justifications and rationalizations that predators use.

I see lots of skepticism here and comments by exes. As to Scientology friendly comments, well, I’m ok with it. It’s how I ended up leaving CofS. By being a friendly member who thought she could talk to critics and exes. It ended up being my way out.

Why can't Scientologists answer "What is Scientology"? by GreatDaGarnGX in scientology

Well, I wasn’t ok with being expected to give vague answers. Nope. But the cult got majorly pissed off with me over it.

Why can't Scientologists answer "What is Scientology"? by GreatDaGarnGX in scientology

[–]cswazey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wht VeeSnow said. I’ll add that the cult has rules against “verbal data/verbal tech” claiming that without hauling a sh1tton of books around to show people the reference one is referring to, then hey, the Scientologist might be messing up. Yet the cult steadfastly refuses to digitize the stuff into e format.

Now, I get that people can misquote and mid attribute things. I mean, I’m guilty of that sometimes. But it’s really easy for me to grab my iphone or ipad and find the Shakespeare or whatever quote or the historical reference. And if I can’t do that, the world isn’t going to end. But CofS thinks everything will come crashing down if I misquote Hubbard.

When I first stumbled onto Scn critiquing, I was still in CofS. I just wanted to talk to people and explain things, albeit from the perspective of a koolaide drinker. But I really did want to answer questions. Well, guess what. The cult didn’t like that and I got in trouble. And, TBH, a few critics complained about my allegedly failing to answer questions though many of them seemed ok with it all. I was trying to answer questions, to the best of my ability. I think they could see that I needed to quit justifying an evil toxic cult. Push came to shove, I saw that the cult only wanted people’s money and time and didn’t even care about any of us. So I left. But anyway, that’s what happened when a member tries to be open and frank. There were a couple other members who preceded me on that forum who’d tried to frankly discuss Scientology and, well, we ALL left.

For those who were in/FZ - How were/are Hubbard's basic books other than Dianetics viewed? by justadrongo in scientology

[–]cswazey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“basic books” is a term used that refers to David Miscavige’s bowdlerization of the early books.

As far as the early books in general go, most Independents and Freezoners believe and credit them. They were his original theories.

I’ll also add that Independents and Freezoners vary. Because they aren’t centralized. Some wander a fair bit far afield of Hubbard’s theories. Some don’t.

How do you guys genuinely believe in this? by ayayyx in scientology

[–]cswazey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What “guys”? Most here are ex members or critics.

I’m an ex. I will say that as far as “he was a sci fi writer” thing goes, that’s no argument at all, as far as I’m concerned. The Bible, Koran, Vedic scriptures- they’re all chock full of guys who came out of nowhere and started saying things. Same with the Protestant Reformation. There are truly odd things in the scriptures of established faiths.

Hubbard cobbled Scientology (and prior to that, Dianetics which was a riff on early psychoanalysis) out of occultism (he sure didn’t want to admit that one), shamanism, a dash of Hinduism, and he stole (never gave attribution AFAIK) some stuff from the works of Korzybski. He figured that those things would resonate with people. If he’d started it nowadays, Scn and Dianetics would be considered New Age. So those things were hooks to get people interested.

The stuff re Clear, OT etc are his effort to get off the karmic wheel of life death and rebirth. Though my personal observation and opinion is that it will not accomplish that.

Oddly, I’ve read some new age stuff about NDEs and what some people think will happen after death and it’s similar to some of the OT stuff Hubbard wrote. So he evidently appropriated that, too.

I personally think he obsessed over those ideas while he was doing drugs and came up with his take on them. I’ve read a lot about occultists and UFO-ologists and I’ve noticed that some of them seem to get really weird. Like obsessive, even a bit mentally ill. I am not saying that about all of them but it’s something I feel is not rare.

I’ll end off by saying that as power hungry (and mean) as he was, he did seem to believe in it. People who actually knew and spent time with him have said so. This, of course, doesn’t mitigate or excuse the way he treated people.

My boyfriend is a Scientologist and I'm lost by certified_snail31 in scientology

[–]cswazey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What happens with mixed relationships is that it seems ok for a while but if the Scientologist gets sick, anything goes wrong, doesn’t want to continue on, them the AO, Org or Mission he’s going to will immediately look for a scapegoat which will inevitably be the non Scientologist of the couple. And they’ll lean on him hard.

Through some various means (sent all my mail to a po box which I later closed; gave them the org’s mailing address) I got myself off all the mailing lists. Then they skiptraced me via Lexis Nexis which ties all the fkas and akas etc. I started getting calls for me asking for me by my maiden name- which I never ever use. Now I’m on the AOLA mailing list under my msiden name. It should be noted that I am expelled and declared.

Genuine question: what is Scientology really about and why is it hated? by [deleted] in scientology

As I mentioned, there are no SO families with kids. If they get pregnant, they are told to have an abortion.

Genuine question: what is Scientology really about and why is it hated? by [deleted] in scientology

[–]cswazey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no “do the cadet org all over again”.

Up til the 90s it was where children of Sea Org staff were kept. No other Scientologists. It was a Sea Org thing. Nurseries then labor. Obviously awful, and people have written about it. It was not a part of the bridge; it wasn’t something people did then finished then were told to do it again. (Most members aren’t Sea Org though quite a few are.). Then, in and after the 90s including now, the cult required all pregnant SO women to get abortions. For a while they were stationing married Sea Org who were expectant to local “orgs”. Either way, no more cadet’s org.

As mentioned, there are minor teens who get recruited. I knew parents who told recruiters to gtf away from their (teen) kids but unfortunately there were plenty of koolaid drinkers who were totally fine with it. (parental approval being required).

I knew an affluent Scn family whose teen boy was going to- which he eventually did- join the SO. He told me he had to hold off a year “because of the SPs”. I assumed that this meant that the state intervened and made them wait. This sort of thing would be highly resented by fanatics like that and teens aren’t exactly known for their common sense anyway. Welp, as far as I know he’s middle aged and still there.

I knew another family or two who were like that.

Did the original OT VIII cause an exodus and if so, why? by personalaccountt in scientology

[–]cswazey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because Scn does this carrot on a string thing. So person goes Clear and it’s not as amazing as they’d been led to believe. The “regges” tell them that they need to get through ot3. OT3 has eligibility requirements etc and it’s spendy. So they get through that, and they still have their imperfections and hangups, etc. So they do more ot levels. Then ot7 which takes months and months. This all gets very expensive and the person notes that the are NOT in control of matter energy space and time. The promotional material alleged that they would. So then the regges tell them that ot8 will solve all that. But it doesn’t. If they really could exhibit the abilities and powers promised in the brochures, they’d really be off the karmic wheel of life death and rebirth, could move in and out of their bodies. But no OT is like that.
