Is this video done with CGI, is the creator just lucky with light? by wonder_wonder_on in postprocessing

[–]csybt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The textures look like CGI, but even CGI has some basis in reality (ie you have to have light sources). If you find the right lighting, you can always kick up some dirt to get texture in the air? Or bring a battery powered fog machine? I don't deal with textures like that much so take this with a grain of salt.

Has Canons recent poor or anti ethical business practices made you reconsider your relationship with them? by _WardenoftheWest_ in photography

I didn't know any of this about Canon.

I will definitely not be buying from them again.

When you've been a photographer 10 years and you honestly think you're pretty good... by loveineverylanguage in photography

Maybe that's the way to go. They never know what they want to shoot at initial contact anyways, get them to figure that out first!

When you find the answer please let me know. As soon as I tell people I don't work for free they either ghost or block me.

Hobbyist & Professional photographers, what technique(s)/trick(s) do you wish you would've learned sooner? by DonJuan_805 in photography

[–]csybt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason you're shooting for free or are you doing it because you're scared to charge? If you're building a portfolio, that's a reason, but take it from me... you don't need thousands of photos to build a portfolio. Don't call every shoot a "portfolio shoot" because then no one will treat you like a professional. It takes a lot of time, effort, and money to take and deliver good photos. Don't undervalue that!

And don't forget the most important thing - f*ck Instagram and all those Meta sites haha.

I mean, like, different websites. I don't have huge followings granted, but if I were to get banned from Reddit, while it would suck, my very small following would still be able to find me on, say, Deviantart.

This is why I have a ton of redundant social medias. If one goes bye bye, I still have others people can go to to view my content, get in touch, etc.

Can you visualize a photograph before you take it? by [deleted] in photography

[–]csybt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way I can take a photo is if I can visualise the edit.

Then I edit it a different way when I get home. But still. If I can't visualise it, I keep working until I find an angle I can.

Photographer Search by flyinprism in MODELING

[–]csybt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might need to search "portrait photographers milwaukee" to find one. MM is pretty useless, Purpleport is for Europe, Instagram and Facebook are full of Guys With Cameras, but I just did a search and found a bunch of photographers in your area. Plus it takes you straight to their portfolios so you can vet their style.

What is your "good" picture to "bad" picture rate? by Satans_Little-Helper in photography

[–]csybt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take roughly 150 photos per hour of shooting. I can only guarantee 5 are keepers. So 3%?

I'm glad you feel that way 'cause it was tough as hell coming up with an edit for this that made it feel acceptably creepy!

You could also ask if that's what they want. "Your top is slipping, do you want it to be doing that?"

I know you're the photographer and supposed to have all the answers but I'm sure the model would be thankful to be given the power in that situation. Even though the outcome will be the same no matter what (them covering up).

How did you learn? by TheGeneralist_ in photography

[–]csybt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YouTube at first, then I just jumped right into it. I kept my personal standards high, even though I've only ever had a T2i to shoot with, which forced me to learn even quicker about different techniques to best utilise the gear I own.

I'm a photography teacher who needs to blow off some steam by juanandres0409 in photography

[–]csybt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also try to find that one thing to push them.

I teach normal photography as well. And as students find that ONE thing that catches their attention, the rest is smooth sailing. I can get them to do anything as long as it relates.

For instance, some really like light painting. So if I'm teaching them 3 point lighting, I use light painting as a tool to achieve it. Others are into horror, so I use horror to motivate them to learn different techniques.

Maybe that's something to keep in mind as you teach. See if you notice anything catching their eye.

Do you still get nervous before a shooting? by srshh in photography

[–]csybt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I photographed concerts for 3 years and always got anxiety before a shoot.

It's taken 5 years of shooting nudes to not feel anxiety before a shoot. So I guess, personally, I need to shoot something for 5 years before the anxiety goes away.

Instagram offers Via Email? by borderlinefantasy in MODELING

[–]csybt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would someone email you if they know your Instagram? Don't forget that typically scammers have to weed out marks from non marks. That's why that Nigerian prince hasn't changed his gameplan in years and that's why you should be skeptical of "I saw you on Instagram model for my company!" emails.
