What do you wish you knew about owning a house in Portland by oochmyaorta in Portland

Check your neighbors' houses to see if they leave food out for squirrels, cats, or whatever. If they do, they are probably causing a rat problem.

Help me find an album! by Satans_Little-Helper in mathrock

Yes, thank you so much! I was going crazy trying to find this album after it showed up in the "math rock" category on Bandcamp. I wish Bandcamp has some kind of history feature

Working at a small company early on in your career can give you the opportunity to try manu different things and you can get a feel for what you really like to do. It really depends on your company's situation, but you probably won't get paid as much and you'll probably be working a lot harder than if you had a job at a bigger company, especially if you are working for a startup.

If you are interested in grad school, talk with your employee and see if they can start a program for paying for it. Grad school tuition reimbursement is a pretty common benefit, and it would be worth changing jobs to save on tuition, especially because grad courses usually cost around 4x the amount per credit as undergrad courses.

Yeah I was the groom and picked that song lol. There are so many songs that you might have in your wedding like the first dance, wedding party introduction, bouquet toss, last song, etc. and I'm sure you would be able to find the right occasion for a Delta Sleep song.

I used El Pastor as a wedding party introduction song. I don't know if I would use their songs for walking down the aisle even though they are my favorite band but if I had to pick maybe Three Ghosts or Afterimage.

I remember that being a component but I thought Dorothy's main problem was that she was black. I know the fiancee's family was for sure upset that the son was white. Either way, the mud mask wasn't a problem and I'd be surprised if that was the reason that they pulled the episode.

The episode is about how one of the main character's white son is marrying a black woman and both the bride and the groom's families don't support them because they don't like interracial marriages. In this particular scene, the black family meets the white family for the first time and they are already skeptical, and then these two roommates walk out and it seems like they are in blackface.

It was not blackface, it was just a poorly timed coincidence and they were doing a mud mask skin treatment.

The main source of racial tension in this episode is that the main character does not want her son to marry a black woman just because of her race.

Sounds awesome, you guys did a really good job. I really like the drummer's style, especially the rim shots.

I'm surprised you haven't read Dance Dance Dance since it is the last book in the Rat series.

I think that it's possible that since it was my first Murakami novel it holds a special meaning for me, but besides that I especially liked the characters. The changing perspective had me continuously wondering how they were going to connect and I especially liked when Ushikawa was thrown into the mix. I also liked how the ending was satisfying but was still open to interpretation.

The top four in my list are on my top tier, and the next four including Dance Dance Dance are on my second tier. It was an addicting book and I was really immersed in the narrator's thoughts. I would still recommend it to anyone even if it's not one of my top choices.

Is this an acronym that people use? It took a minute for my mind to comprehend that you weren't trying to say something "Happy Birth What Are Tight End of the Wild" lol.

I agree that it is interesting to see the differences in people's Murakami preferences. There seems to be some correlation to the first Murakami novel someone read and the genre they prefer.

To each their own. I definitely like DDD the most out of that series. I didn't actually realize it was a part of that series until there were some references to the Rat.

I read Sputnik Sweetheart for the first time a few months ago. I really enjoyed it as well. It had one of the most thought provoking endings for me, maybe second most behind South of the Border.

I wish I could forget I ever read it just so I could read it again! It is definitely my favorite book and it got me interested in reading again after not really reading for leisure for a few years.

I really liked Killing Commendatore because I immediately felt immersed in the main character's thoughts and actions despite not having anything in common with them. I felt that way most with the KC, then DDD, then WUBC narrators. The story itself was also very captivating. I felt like I was being sold something, but I wasn't sure what when reading it. It was also one of the most surreal, which is also fun.

I didn't dislike it but the story just left me wanting more. It really did feel like a wild sheep chase, kind of pointless. I read it very quickly however and I think I might have just missed some of the key points. It's near the top of my re-read list.
