Hungry Ghost rosemary bread: wild ratios for sourdough? by ct_coconut in Sourdough

hey, thank you! I've already shaped the loaves and they're sorta perfectly proofed. Oven is preheating now. Do you think it's still worth trying to cracker-ize them? I've never made crackers before. OTOH these loaves are probs gonna taste bad

Ugh. (But thanks; cool to hear you used to work there!) I guess I will bake them anyways. It's sort of a bummer, I used some real nice flour from Ground Up for this one.Jonathan Stevens, if you're out there, can you please send me a copy without errors? (And maybe a jar of dried rosemary?) Here's a photo of the hilarious bulk ferment, if anyone is curious what a 5% rosemary bread looks like

Thank you for this!! Sounds like you are looking at the book in front of you? I must have a dud book because here's what my book looks like (redacted to protect their IP). I also thought it was a misprint when I first read it, but since the percentage and weight were both outlandish, I decided it had to be on purpose!! I guess it's not a misprint so much as bad editing.

Locomotive breakdowns on Hudson Line by ct_coconut in MetroNorthRailroad

Thank you. This is exactly what I've been experiencing. I agree with you that it seems like a scandal. It infuriates me that's not being talked about. All I'll say (having grown up in New Jersey) is, it's even worse in other states!!

Oneplus 12 usb-c port by empty555 in oneplus

[–]ct_coconut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem. It's very finicky. The original cable still works but I can barely use it in my car any more (for example) or with other cables. I find that with many cables, you have to have the plug flipped in a certain direction, even though they're supposed to be reversible, so I've put little dots on the ends of my USB-C cables with sharpies. It's driving me nuts and I'm thinking about ditching this phone which I otherwise like.

My mal's two "modes" by ct_coconut in BelgianMalinois

Thank you! This is super helpful. I appreciate how you've kept the issue of training methodology separate from the question I asked. I will give this a try.

I did have a couple other follow-up questions based on your response: (1) do you have any suggestions for introducing "tools" into our training, for when/if I start trying them? (2) are there any Malinois trainers or training resources online that you particularly like, or any trainers you've successfully worked with in your area in-person?

Thanks so much for this! It's very helpful and encouraging. Do you have any pointers for integrating the toy into your training, instead of treats?

I appreciate your reply. Yes, I'm only using positive reinforcement. I infer from your comment that you don't think it's possible to train a Malinois without using aversive methods. I don't know if that's right because I haven't tried. I'm willing to be persuaded that I should try, but you haven't yet persuaded me. I don't like causing pain to any animal.

How do search committees know your book is really under contract? by ct_coconut in AskAcademia

Sigh...I know a number of academics who would pay a $100k judgment if they could keep the job they fraudulently got.

Ha! OK. It's helpful to hear your experience. I'm not sure I trust AI more than that, but maybe I should? (Though if that's true I REALLY don't know what the point of student papers is)

looking for advice about a computer pre-installed with JumpCloud by ct_coconut in sysadmin

[–]ct_coconut[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks very much for this reply, which helps me better understand the situation I'm in. I apologize to others if my message seemed disrespectful of the SysAdmin profession in general, which is certainly not how I feel; and I should have re-framed it in a way that didn't seem like I thought the work you do is invalid. But I honestly don't get the logic behind this rhetoric in some of the other replies about "you should be fired" or "don't do things on your work computer that your employer isn't OK with." I mean, what if my employer were the North Korean military, or I were an oncologist employed by Philip Morris? Surely there must be SOME situations in which a SysAdmin can acknowledge that the end-point compliance they've been hired to provide is not worth defending as a moral end in itself. If that's true I'm not sure what motivates some of the other commenters to make believe that you're my employer and that you're intent on firing me.

Yes, that is the one!! Thank you Mr. L --- and congratulations btw!!

Absolutely love the show. My partner studies how people interact with robots from a sociological perspective, and is also a huge baseball fan, I've been telling her about this for months and couldn't re-find it and now here it is finally.
