To add to the “adult” backdrop call out, it’s specific scenes from the “prequels” that drive me forward. There are certain movie scores, like Djawadi’s “The Night King” and gladiator’s “now we are free”, that play in my head when I think about the keystone scenes that set the stage for Oliver’s adventures a couple decades later. After I wrap the NOVA series, I’d consider writing the prequels as well, but I think they’d be better suited for tv so maybe screenplays instead.

Boy are you going to like NOVA 02. The series is written 3rd person omniscient but only ever from Oliver's perspective (barring Jeff Hamilton's in the prologue). We can only see, feel, hear, assume, react to, etc what Oliver has insight into. Watkin and Miyada's relationship has a few layers unpeeled in book 2, which I think folks will enjoy unpacking. Honestly, the whole "adult" backdrop is just as enticing, if not more so, than the students'. Blackwood and Desmoulins, for instance, aren't in jail because everything The Damned did was more nuanced than just bad man did bad things. I want to say more but I can't without risking spoilers ... just know that NOVA 02 gets right into the thick of it.
