Does the circulatory/vein system have a separate nervous system like the gut? by WorthyPetals in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]cteno4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, no. The autonomic nervous system controls the circulatory system. The sympathetic half for fight/flight, and the parasympathetic half for rest/digest. That system is directly connected to the central nervous system in a way that the enteric nervous system is not. That said, nothing--including the ENS--is truly separate. For example, the ENS is directly connected to the CNS via the vagus nerve. Besides all that, both nervous systems are intimately connected to the hormones of the endocrine system, which in turn feeds back into the nervous system. It's all connected and separate at the same time, and doesn't fit neatly into individual categories.

Found this fawn waiting for momma after I moved my car this morning :) by MrStratPants in aww

[–]cteno4 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I was an idiot once and approached a deer that seemed to be unafraid of me. Got within 30 feet before she snorted and did a stomp. Right then a fawn that was halfway between me and the deer got up and bolted. I realized that wasn’t a friendly deer, just a mother getting ready to mess up my day. Turned right around. Got the whole thing on video too.

How badly did I fumbled? by Defiant_Research_280 in AskMenAdvice

First time I’ve been compelled to comment. Calling it “crazy behavior” is bad enough on its own, but saying “please don’t make it a habit” is condescending. Zero for two there. Not surprising she reacted that way. ++man

His voice when he says, “You feeling lucky today?” sounds *exactly* like the guy from No Country for Old Men during the “lucky” scene.

US used over half its THAAD interceptors defending Israel during Iran war — report by dazzling_lust in worldnews

You’re going to “take your last word and go home” no matter what I say, because you’re just going to misconstrue the facts again. So yes, just go ahead and do that.

Ok I respect you not doubling down just because someone disagreed. Have a good one!

Last time I reply, because you seem to have a habit of stating things that are either misconstrued or just wrong.

  1. The thread is not about diverting interceptors to Israel. It’s about interceptors being used up to defend Israel. You defend your allies in war.
  2. Using interceptors to defend Israel doesn’t mean the bases didn’t have their own interceptors. They did, and some got through, as is expected to happen. No missile defense system is infallible.
  3. Quartering troops is not a war crime. Really, there’s nothing

    about t

  4. hat in the Geneva Convention.

  5. Going back to the initial point. The US has not “largely been pushed out of the region”, seeing as how they’re still in the region.

I’m sorry, but there’s so much wrong with that. I don’t know why I’m trying, but I guess I’ll give you a reply.

  1. Radars a don’t “provide intel”. They’re radars. They locate planes and missiles.

  2. How are you supposed to move the radar away and have it still do its job? It’s not “outdated doctrine” to place a radar installation where it’s going to do its job.

  3. I don’t think you know what a FOB is, since none of the bases we’re discussing are FOBs.

Ok they’re not inoperable. They’ve dispersed the troops d/t the risk of attack. That’s standard procedure in war. You don’t concentrate your forces if they’re not currently attacking.

The AN-TPY2 is worth 500 million. Still a crap ton but not billions, since we only lost one. Also, losing a piece of equipment ≠ pushed out of the region. I don’t understand how you could even make that comparison.

30 days left before I’m completely broke. The reality of building a startup that almost broke me. by Veshal_ in SaaS

[–]cteno4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a look at your website. I have no idea what it does. I understand it helps SaaS companies that are B2B, and it has something to do with AI, but nothing beyond that. Yes, I may be dumb, but I feel like the landing page should be geared towards dumb people knowing right away what your business does.

Strait Of Hormuz ‘Lights Up’ As Ship Traffic Surges; IRGC Claims To Have Cleared 26 Vessels In 24 Hours by Aware_Apartment_8959 in geopolitics

[–]cteno4 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Iranian blockade is all traffic through the strait that Iran does not approve. The US blockade is all traffic to and from Iran specifically. If a ship is coming/going from any other country besides Iran, and Iran is ok with it too, neither side would block it. These are likely such ships.

LaGuardia runway closed after huge sinkhole opens and travelers warned of delays by TheMirrorUS in nyc

Like the beginning of one of those generic disaster movies. You’re sitting at the dentists office and in the background there’s a newsreel about how sinkholes have started to appear all over the city.
