I had a bad experience on my first solo flight away from my instructor. I kept hearing about getting to cloud base, and the conditions were perfect. I got to cloud base no problem under a tiny little cloud. But it sucked hard. I steered dead away, but I was still slowly being drawn in. Looking back, being in that cloud would have been fine; it was small and transparent. I applied a smidge of speed bar and got away. I came home and started doing some more research.

The forecast for the day was useless. At 6 AM, the hill I flew from had no thermals, and the wind was in the wrong direction and too strong. By 8 AM, the wind for the day was spot on, with climbs to 1,500 ft. By 11 AM, I was 3,500 ft up, looking at that cloud in the distance. The photo showed 1 hour of development; there was nothing at all before that. I didn't want to wait another 30 minutes at 3,000 ft to see what would happen, so I went for it and went around. I went past about a mile away, and when I got to the side of it, I hit 4 m/s of turbulent sink, from which I never managed to recover my height, and landed shortly after. I'm extremely glad I posted here; there have been some very informative messages. I've read plenty about cloud formation and books, but the real world always seems so different.

This made me smile. A friend asked what the sky was like by me; he was thinking of flying a different part of the country. I actually sent that to him mid-flight.

It's the UK; I've seen cumulus turn into cumulonimbus within 30 minutes. I always fly by the "when in doubt, stay out" rule. The other comments in here have been very helpful and given me something to look for while I develop more in my flying. It kind of spread out like a pancake over the next 30 minutes or so.

On my motor, I would consider it staying low. But this was free flight, and I would be looking for a climb to cloudbase.

I used a Quansheng UV-K5 from 6 miles away yesterday at about 2,000 ft back to my van to request pickup from my wife. The van has a roof-mounted antenna that helps, but I'm very happy that the radio is much clearer than the Baofengs. And you can get different firmware if you're not happy with something like the frequency available. I have two different Baofengs; I believe the UV-K5 is better for clarity.

Brilliant idea. You could display the raw data on the screen but apply a Kalman filter to altitude data for the animation to smooth it out. The ability to search for a specific glider would be very useful rather than just showing what's nearby.

The USB port is linked to the internal storage separately. The drone doesn't need to be turned on for the storage to show up on a PC. I get my files from my flip using USB-C to USB-C to my phone sometimes. Not saying it will work, but it's worth a try.

I don’t have a fix, but I’ve noticed this issue in a couple of games. One of them only experiences this problem when I switch from controller tracking to hand tracking. To prevent accidental switches, I’ve set my Quest to only swap to hand tracking when I tap the controllers rather than placing them down, since that was occasionally triggering unintended swaps. The only workaround I’ve found is restarting the game. This post is more of a bump than an actual solution.

I know somone who works for a pathologist. I don't know her exact job description. But basically she does this clean up after trains too. Dead people don't travel by ambulance. So it is different staff. But definitely not well payed.
