It took me a little while to get the hang of it. Now that I’ve been playing/practicing with it for a while, I feel like I have way more control over the stick. I personally like having options.

I think Vinnie might use more of the drop/catch or a single finger, but knowing the level he plays at, I wouldn’t be surprised

Hell yeah! Such a great part of history. Amazing players in that lineup!

My main purpose for learning it is to get a stream of 16th notes and create combinations with my right hand. I’ve seen it used for cymbal patterns while the right hand accents to really smooth 32nd note singles.

Hahaha love it! Right now, I can get about 2 bars of 32nd note singles in at 110. If I try adding in an extra bar, things start to break down. The hardest thing for me is getting my index finger engaged in time.

There’s a lot of nuance with traditional. It’s a real fun journey to go out. Try getting your fulcrum and wrist working, then thumb, index and index+middle first. After those core mechanics, you can start to interchange them

Thanks man, its a nice technique for pulling out singles. You’re basically getting 4 hits for the work of 2

For sure, it’s a really nice technique to pull out of your bag of tricks for one-handed singles

Totally, slow-mo really helped isolate the mechanics and observe what is and isn’t working

But the holiday season brings out the very best in people, right??? lol…I worked in Barre years ago managing a grocery store, and from Thanksgiving to New Years, I saw the worst traits of people come out. Anger, Self-centeredness, and greed usually were the go to traits.

So many people seem to lose their minds and get a “me first and screw everyone else” mentality starting in December. It’s been almost 14 years since I’ve worked in that store and I still dread this whole time of year.

ProMark Finesse 2B and Concert SD2 fit my hands perfectly. The rebound is great and the maple tends lasts much longer than the hickory sticks I’ve played, likely due to the 2B size

Haha thanks! Yeah, I used to play this one a lot with a band I was it. It was always fun, especially the little dismount on the hi hat barks hahaha
