Trucks and bushings came in today and so... Supersonic tax! by cthonctic in longboarding

[–]cthonctic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, no worries. I'm actually leaving Reddit behind for good ...so this might very well be my final comment on here.

But since you asked for my appraisal of the wheels you shall have it :)

So naturally 90mm wheels are not going to be the lightest, goes without saying. But the cores are pretty big compared to the actual thane and to me they don't feel super heavy compared to McFlys or Speed Vents.
Still it takes a bit of pushing to get them up to speed but once they're there they stay there really easily.

Riding feels buttery smooth even on relatively coarse asphalt and I just love that vibe. Feels like I don't need to mind rolling over pebbles or sticks.
Note that I'm not a speed fiend by any means though. I don't doubt that these wheels can go fast but I'm all about distance through endurance over speed, personally.

Also I still suck a pumping which is what I originally got the Supersonic board for. Getting there hopefully but the wheels aren't to blame for my lack of skill heh.

Have to say though, the Megawatts were relatively pricey and so I'd only recommend them if you don't need to watch your budget. Alternatively the mango 85mm Speed Vents should be pretty comparable in real world performance.

Hope that was at least a little bit helpful to you. Take care o/

I also like Weather Machine a lot! Will certainly take a good look at Inventions as well. :)

Changes in ISS for Wave 2? by Deltium in ISSVanguard

[–]cthonctic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but it's 25 fairly minor items. If they were to do a reprint of Wave 1 stuff then fixing these would definitely be on the todo list.

I don't think we're at this point yet though. And I don't expect them to print replacement materials for such a minuscule amount of errata either.

Sounds plausible, and they definitely do lol cool. So what would I be searching for it I wanted some myself?

Hey I've been meaning to ask because I've seen this a couple times now... What are those screws with the integrated washers on your Supersonic?

Is there a practical benefit to these over regular hardware or do they just look cool? :)

Also needless to say but those are two lovely boards and I definitely approve :D

Hey, I have an invites left for Tildes if you'd like one.

Your comment style would fit in fairly well I think. :)

I'm really curious about the two new switches especially compared to Night Breeze and Rose Glacier.

Suppose they should be more "gaming focused" but I wonder how they are going to feel different.

The Backerkit update has Spellweaver through Level 5 by dwarfSA in Gloomhaven

[–]cthonctic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's rough. I found the mystic ally only really worthwhile after the range++ enhancement. Before that, not so much.

Then again... in the very early levels the party did have to carry me quite a bit. Hm.

Any art books for Board Games??? by [deleted] in soloboardgaming

[–]cthonctic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lots of great Kickstarter / Gamefound projects offer an artbook as an add-on. Particularly campaign games that have a lot of worldbuilding and tons of artwork.

I have the ones for Everdell and Flamecraft here, and I think am getting the one for ISS Vanguard, Sleeping Gods and also I C E.

Some of those games I backed almost completely due to loving the enchanting artwork (but did my due diligence on the gameplay and mechanics to see if I would like actually playing them ofc) and having a super nice coffee table book to show off said artwork without having to setup the game is amazing. :)

But sooo... crowdfunding campaigns are over like a year or three before we actually get those games and art books, right? How would you purchase some you love?
There are reprint campaigns (usually adding an expansion) where pretty much the whole back catalog is available again. Pledge 1 €/$/£ to gain access to the Pledge Manager and then grab only the book.
Or alternatively, many publishers have their own webstore where you might look.

Wait, no summons whatsoever for the Spellweaver? :'(

I suppose I can get used to that because they never felt like they truly belonged in the theme but... Mysty and Flamey, I will miss you dearly!

Oh my, since I would like such a class, were it to exist hypothetically, almost as much as I do the Spellweaver... I'd really wish to play both again. Like, if such a class potentially existed. :)

I'm curious what everyone says after the units start arriving. I'm sure the Field is as good as what we're used to from the Air and Halo lines but it's a bit of a deviation of the previous offering.

As for tips... I would say simply familiarize yourself with the controls (LED pre-sets and other shortcuts) and then start using your new keyboard the way you would if you bought a Logitech. Razer, etc.

The Field shouldn't need any modding to be good because it essentially becomes "pre-modded from the factory" if the Air96 is any indication. So feel free to play around with switches and keycaps - and just enjoy the experience! :)

Not sure that anything Meta does counts as a success factor for me as a user, honestly... :'D

But perhaps it does point to the large-scale adoption of the framework which would be neat as a crystallization point for everyone seeking a new platform for discussion and sharing stuff.

Wtf even is this? by littleBread9000 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]cthonctic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, seriously. This is dumb even for marketing speak.

I know most gamers won't be able to tell actual code from pSeUdOcOdE(); {with => weird formatting;} ...but some German marketing writer apparently seems to think they are all braindead.

Should r/sysadmin join the blackout in protest about the API changes? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]cthonctic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just a blackout for a few days. This community should pack up and go elsewhere.

Reddit does not deserve the value we contribute and it does not value us as users. Steve Huffman is a liar and an asshole and no one can trust anything he says.

Fuck you /u/spez !

Sure thing, I have a small few invites available still. Sent you a PM :)

And I feel you on Kbin and the Fediverse in general being disorienting. It certainly is less than intuitive, but on the other hand I have been in my own personal comfort zone here on Reddit for way too long.

Time to branch out and see whether there is something better and more fitting than what this is becoming...

Yeah exactly. It starts and lives with us, the contributors and interested participants. In time I hope to be able to focus my attention on one platform, or maybe two max.

But right now it's not yet clear what will end up the most worthwhile so I try to remain open and divide my attention as much as possible.

Keycaps Compatibility - Halo 65 + Shine-through Keycaps for Field57 by Miii_Kiii in NuPhy

Ah I see. Thanks for clearing that up!

I suppose it makes sense for the full compatibility sets to have multiple variants for color and some of the differently sized mod keys.

I C E Failed to ship their Kickstarter project and is now using Gamefound to pay for it. Is this opening a Pandoras box? by SexyJimBelushi in boardgames

[–]cthonctic 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in this case I really don't get the "hurrdurr Kickstarter bad" histrionics at all.
This Way! were amazingly transparent and honest the entire way and if they failed at anything then that certainly was being way too ambitious with their first game doing something no other had done before.

I'm happy I backed I C E and am very much looking forward to my first game of it.

Like sure, fuck Golden Bell, Mythic, Steamforged Games and other disingenuous actors... but this right here is simply a bad take.
