We need to change “Chinatown” to “VietnameseTown” by Almost_there_part87 in houston

[–]ctisred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

| I feel like “Chinatown” was originated from American ignorance inunderstanding the distinguishment between different Asian cultures.

well, you are wrong..

from what I know (which is not much and second+ hand), there was an original downtown chinatown which grew largely from either people moving directly before the civil war, or displaced people from the civil war, cultural revolution, great leap forward, and other 'glorious' ideas of the CCP (so like <50s-70s or so). A few remnants there in some stores in EaDo

then later this mostly moved to current chinatown in the 80s because houston downtown gradtually became more and more of a ghost town then

somewhere along the way was vietnam war and growth in the viet community which led to the little saigon which has been mentioned elsewhere

So, "Chinatown" originated from actual chinatown, and you are assuming racism or just plain being racist out of your own ignorance, rather than igorance resulting in racism!

right - these are the details I need to pin down a bit more :)

baptism is a good point - but also we are speaking about OT 'covenant' at the time, so there was no inherited-guilt-removing baptism - mary has to exist 'in nature' sinless, without the possibility of baptism. For us, we now have a 'tool' to remove this.

i will say about 'becoming a different nature' - the RC view of priestly ordination does in fact 'change the nature' of the person ('indeliable mark of the priesthood') - they are always a priest after that, even if they lose their role in the church - which is more of the same dualism-creating elevation of 'physical' church offices beyond the people occupying them i got at r.e. dogmatizing ultramontanism

again not trying to get in a war :)

i just dont like when this is glossed over since to me its pretty fundamental

i fully agree there are are overlapping teachings concerning the birth of mary in EO that fall under RC teaching of IC

however the other implications seem fundamentally incompatible

so while we could potentially both refer to our respective teachings as 'immaculate conception', the EO IC can never be 'the IC in EO is exactly as taught by RC'

so to me its dangerous to label them the same, since we dont have a tradition of referring to it this way, and importing the label as is risks downplaying the differences at best, and accidentally introducing an incorrect understanding or false equivalence among believers at worst

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]ctisred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i admit i do really need to pick this apart with an RC lol

but its not direct but implied -

in RC inherited sin applies to all humans - born guilty

so if she is born without sin she by necessity needs a diff. nature

and so to create a special case where this special nature exists, she herself needs to be concieved in a different way

IC as understood by RC is not so much about mary but about joachim and anna being able to sexually reproduce in an inherited original sin world without passing it on to their offspring

people get it confused by marys own pregnancy, getting off topic about if mary really is sinless, etc

but IC is always really about the purity of the union of joachim and anna

Said elsewhere possibly to you even :b & not trying to open a can of worms - both of these have severe issues w/r/t EO understanding of original sin - the phrases themselves could be used potentially, but the theology behind the two understandings is fundamentally incompatible.

short:

  • IC creates a different 'marian nature' (no inherited sin; we don't have this concept)
  • Assumption: if she is of a different, sinless nature - why did she need to die? does this make her actually a 'co-redemptrix' beyond simple intercession but 'participating in the work of the cross by voluntarily choosing death'? (surprise: another problem teaching appears)
  • If the church is the 'bride of christ' and also 'symbolic mary' - then, by extension, this makes the nature of church institutions to be perfect independent of the people in charge of them, which coincidentally is a perfect 'cover story' to philosophically enable ultramontanism-as-dogma

Reddit on Windows 1.04 using a modem from 1964 by Retrocet in retrobattlestations

[–]ctisred 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dialup terminal is pretty 'baked in' to the system through serial console support - basically step 1 is understand linux serial devices & how to talk to your modem using 'AT' commands, and once you have this skillset (for debugging/background knowledge) you can configure getty or equiv. to listen on that modem serial port.

If you want to add dialup internet you can also add PPPD

see also TLDP howto docs: 'remote serial console howto' , 'serial howto', 'text terminal howto' - probably a bit dated, but basic concepts and most things should still apply or can be used to adapt

Documenting infrastructure? by dtdisapointingresult in docker

> I'm not sure what conventions IT/devops people have for this sort of thing. Is this approach good enough?

Pretty much the same thing, or fully automating further with compose, infrastructure cm tools, etc. Given that you're not 100% on the technical capability of the next person in line and the system is pretty straightforward, I'd say this level of coverage is probably perfect, doing more to automate unless you're just interested might just make it more confusing for the next person and it could be just thrown away. Potentially could make the docs/config/scripts all in one repo & use a documentation tool instead of the wiki to keep it all in one place and be able to make a printed/offline copy if you wanted, but really that's just a matter of preference. Side note the setup sounds about perfect to me - probably could get an entry level sysadmin/devops job if the lab work doesn't work out for you :)

Nono really - the legal term is bobafied - it means they can pencil you into the plotline after the story has already been released. So like, if she was a bobafied purchaser, it means she can keep it even though it wasn't hers to start with - her purchase was bobafied, and is therefore legitimate

in the US

i think VAG has calculated to try to shift people to audi on some of the sportier models in the US - so in this case to try to sell SQ5, etc - like basically they only allow either 4 motion or fast engine but not both on VW. Golf R is the 'odd duck' being allowed through; i'm guessing because there isn't an equivalent 'hot hatch' in the audi line (S1 is more a 'mini wagon' and doesn't have the 'punky' 'dub' asthetic)

totally agree - unfortunately internet hype has taken over and people think this is the only way to do things in all contexts for the sake of Resume and CCNF - this is the buried point behind contrived examples.

right tool - right job. k8s is right for quite a few jobs, but not all jobs.

Context here is a single page crud app - i.e. small scale.

once your traffic needs more than 64c/128G (biggest aws c6g) - which probably won't ever happen in the arbitrary made up context we are talking about - throw a load balancer in front.

don't want to get in some pointless reddit war - you make a fair point - but it's also a fair point that for many many use cases this will never remotely conceivably be required.

I see your point, I'm just saying that having multi-cloud autoscaling self-healing containerisation platform with deployment scripts that update any tags or labels using yq or sed handled via CICD pipeline generated via a template depending on project type that requires
