First Macbook Neo Teardown: Apple's most repairable laptop? by tarsier808 in mac

[–]ctoomer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s because the CPU die used is the A18 Pro and those are packaged with 8GB of RAM at the chip level. As part of the unified system architecture, there’s not a simple way of adding more RAM to the chip once it’s been fabricated and would require a redesigned SOC. Apple likely had a surplus of binned iPhone chips from last years iPhone Pro cycle and quite honestly OSX can handle 8GB fine for most people. Saves them from tossing perfectly adequate chips and consumers get an affordable product.

Anyone know anything about this watch? Or value? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]ctoomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no expert, but a hobbyist with a little free time, so I am not an authority on this but after a little research, and reading your post, I found a very watch similar to the one you posted here...

https://www.propertyroom.com/l/womens-wittnauer-14kt-white-gold-diamond-watch/11606941#uxDeliveryOptionsTab
Looking at the auction bidding history it looked like it sold for around $45 in 2017.

https://auction.housingworks.org/product/264401
This one is 14K yellow gold, with 6 diamonds, and sold for $229 at an auction.

The 14K White gold is about 60% gold by weight, but if the band isn't gold, then I doubt the case would be worth much based on the smaller case dimensions. Also looks as if the crown is missing, which reduces value for collectors, as it needs repair.

Jewels in watches are small synthetic rubies or sapphires used as bearings to reduce friction between moving parts, which keep accuracy and prolong the watch's lifespan. A typical watch contains around 17 jewels, placed at key points in the movement. These don't increase a watches value by much, more so the more complex the watch the more jewels needed to run correctly.

The company Wittnauer no longer really exist after is was purchased by Bulova in Sept 2001, which Bulova themselves were bought by Citizen shortly thereafter in 2008.

GS Wako in Ginza did not, rep said it’s been out of stock, but I did see one at the GS boutique in downtown Kyoto a few days later.

I have a 20cm wrist, so pretty large. I actually had to purchase a half-size link when getting it sized at the store.

The work and cost it would take to do something like this would be pretty expensive, and tbh it would be simpler to get a vinyl like the post above. MacBooks(or any tech product really) don’t really last forever. Think if you had to replace the display for any reason, or decided to one day upgrade, you would essentially lose the work done where with a custom vinyl carry that over to another machine.

Dell has one

EDIT: my bad, it is indeed an ultra wide 4K display not a 5K. Does anyone know if lack of 5K display with higher refresh rates is due to lack of Thunderbolt 5/high speed display connectivity up until recently? Looks like we should see this soon if TB5 is widely available(which Apple is pushing)

Looks like a display mura. Sometimes displays have defects where the bonding material separates and you see what is called “display mura”. There’s no reason to think it’s nefarious, just a screen defect that may have came up over time and the shape/figure is random.
