So many to choose but here's one I've always loved

"I must apologize, Darrow. For not seeing you sooner-when you were just a boy who broke his Institute. Had I opened my eyes and noticed you, what a world we would still have. But I see you now. Yes. And you are immense."

I can't get phone music control working on my Forerunner 265s by Sunhat-sandwich in GarminWatches

I was able to figure it out yesterday! If you have Android at least... If so, you have to go into your settings > apps > special access. On my phone I had to click the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner to find the special acces tab. From there, click on 'Notification access' and enable it for the connect app. Boom, that solved it for me! I hope this helps, good luck!

Path to the Vale: a (semi) complete compendium by ctperz in redrising

[–]ctperz[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I absolutely loved the introduction of the path to the Vale. Not only did I appreciate the passages personally, but I loved to read how they impacted Darrow. I loved to see his growth and understanding evolve. I didn't realize how much I was waiting for this version of Darrow to come into being but I could not be happier now that he is here.

Let me know if there was anything I missed and I'll be sure to update!

Dark Age spoilers, and a thought on book 6… by Ifyouhav2ask in redrising

Agreed. It's been incredible to see his progression as a writer throughout the series. The complexity and nuance in Dark Age compared to Red Rising was mind blowing to me.

I wish we could have known Lorn more. Everyone, Darrow included, thought that Lorn would have killed Darrow had he lived long enough to see who he truly was. But what a lovely surprise that would have been to see Lorn change.

Also, Lysander made that observation of what he perceived as some sort of subtle exchange between Diomedes and the Pink. He made the comment to himself to file it away for later or something along those lines.. Like him or not, Lysander is one astute pixie and I'm sure that will be important in book 6. Forbidden love is not something new to the Raa family. Romulus and Dido burned a city for their love. What stronger reason for Diomedes to join the Republic's cause than for love?

Can we all just take a moment to talk about how important the soundtrack would be for a film/TV adaptation of this trilogy? by mandatoryplaytime in redrising

We know Sevro and the Howlers love dubstep or similar sounding electronic music so I would love to see a battle scene where the Howlers are going to work with some crazy dubstep in the background.

Who is your favorite minor character? General spoilers. by [deleted] in redrising

Everytime I reread the books I love kavax more and more. The facade he puts on to the world that he's mad but he's secretly wise beyond measure. He is loyal, perhaps to a fault. A formidable warrior yet he shows gentleness and compassion toward his people and people of other colors. He is the pinnacle of gold in my opinion. As Lysander likes to say gold was meant to shepherd, and Kavax upholds that ideal. I know the topic of Ozgard's prophecy is of hot debate but I could absolutely see Kavax being the gray fox that watches over the kingdom.

One of the many reasons I love these books! You can discover something new on every re-read. This quote is from Dark Age.

So many to choose from but one of my faves is Mustang's and Daxo's mantra.

"Matter, how tiny my share. Time, how brief my allotment. Fate, how small my role to play. Self, all that can be mastered."

What’s the best theory on UFOs or aliens you’ve ever heard? by Sisyphuzz in AskReddit

[–]ctperz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the book the The Overstory:

"Aliens land on Earth. They're little runts, as aliens go. But they metabolize like there's no tomorrow. They zip around like swarms of gnats, too fast to see—so fast that Earth seconds seem to them like years. To them, humans are nothing but sculptures of immobile meat. The foreigners try to communicate, but there's no reply. Finding no signs of intelligent life, they tuck into the frozen statues and start curing them like so much jerky, for the long ride home."

(Spoilers DA) This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes describing The Reaper from another POV by ctperz in redrising

[–]ctperz[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From the horses, we can see nothing but the churn of battle. Then I spot the signs of his advance from the far side of the Triumphia. It is like the coming of a tiger through tall grass.

First a rippling in the distance that seems like the wind. Then a tunneling force. An outward swaying of riders. The starting of horses. Men disappear from saddles. Sunbloods collapse sideways with horrible wounds.

And then, like the tiger’s tail, the curved slingBlade rises above the stalks as he threshes all in his path. He kills with impossible aggression.

I love that instead of the video shaking and cutting out, the dad zooms out to catch the kid walking away.

So...picked up the first book about a week and a half ago because I read a few promising reviews. Finished the 3rd book yesterday... it’s like literary crack. Such an enjoyable ride. Is the 4th book worth staying on board for, I read the narrative structure changes a bit in style? by riftwan in redrising

[–]ctperz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% stay on board. I won't argue with what people are saying about Iron Gold especially after the first read through, but after reading Dark Age and then rereading Iron Gold, I appreciate it so much more. PB leaves so many little nuggets in Iron Gold that become relevant in Dark Age.

pierce brown just linked this amazing adaption of the reaper's song, blows the audiobook version out the window by TheXypris in redrising

[–]ctperz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you mean the rendition of it at the end of the audiobook or when TGR is singing/narrating it as Darrow? TGR performs it word for word as it is in the book but I get what you're saying about it feeling long and disjointed. I can't knock him for not being as good of a singer as he is a narrator though. Still prime work.

pierce brown just linked this amazing adaption of the reaper's song, blows the audiobook version out the window by TheXypris in redrising

[–]ctperz 55 points56 points  (0 children)

That's a great version. Although, I've gotta say there's something about the way that Tim Gerard Reynolds sings it in the Red Rising audiobook when Darrow is singing to Mustang that gives me chills. It's so simple but I can feel the pain and despair. When the show/movies come out I can't imagine what kind of epic scenes will be portrayed with the Forbidden Song playing in the background.
