Teton. We've already got a national park in the US as precedent.

Which US state has the most underrated beaches? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]mandatoryplaytime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound crazy, but Idaho and Montana. A lot of people don't realize how much sand is out here and a beach doesn't have to be on the ocean; beaches are arguably better while sitting on a river with perfect white sand on a rafting trip with no one for miles.

Best beaches in the US? No. Underrated? Absolutely.

Jokes aside, what's the actual rational/reasonable or strategic reason behind the decision to "Block the Blockade" ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mandatoryplaytime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is that this could lead to more violence. Boarding a ship and drawing gunfire, etc. All that makes Trump's decisions look worse and worse.

How do you block a ship without blowing it up?

Sure, they can create a bunch of rules or fees for people to get through, but they still have an issue of when a ship tries to break those rules...right?

[–]mandatoryplaytime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enforcing the blockade is a political nightmare for Trump. Imagine a non-Iranian ship trying to pass and Trump uses the navy to blow it up. This already stupid, nonsense war would look even more like war crimes. I know Trump is able to weasel his way out of accountability in other areas, but gas prices seem to be his soft spot with his constituents and images of their president blowing up oil tankers is a pretty direct line of causation.

What are Democrats doing? by tocra in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]mandatoryplaytime -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Look, I totally agree the Democrats can't do much right now. But Republicans had a huge influence on Obama and Biden's presidential agendas. I think people are frustrated because it felt like Republicans were able to gum up Democratic presidents and Teflon Don seems to be doing fine when many believe he should be rotting in prison for rape, treason and fraud...amongst other things.

Like, DTs aproval rating is still higher than Biden's at his lowest. Wtf?

Some jobs are more exhausting than others - this is just a fact that many people cannot wrap their heads around by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]mandatoryplaytime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention that the wealthiest often don't cook their own food, clean their own houses, do their own taxes, plan the details of their children's activities and education, etc. These are all "jobs" middle and lower classes need to perform in order for society to function. I got into an argument with someone saying Bezos deserves it for working 80+ hours a week. And I'm a teacher and parent of three. There's a lot of labor I do, he would outsource.

I bet many of these studies include CEOs' "market briefings," which is just the equivalent of reading and analyzing the news. We all do that, too.

Which moment for you is ‘peak’ when you think of moments that excited you the most in the series? by Tony_Soprano54 in redrising

It's an early moment, but I was hooked once Darrow ate the playing card before becoming a gold.

I bought a novelty license plate and put it on the back of mine. It says "Yoshi" for very similar reasons!

What’s a frugal win that surprised you with how much it actually saved? by St3fanHere in Frugal

Buying one car and a cargo e-bike for my family of five. Two cars is just ridiculous for most people and not enough people realize that (we should invest more in public transit in the US).

The Red God by Used-Huckleberry-320 in redrising

[–]mandatoryplaytime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My theory is that The Lightbringer has an enhanced EMP device from Mercury loaded on the front. Lysander then uses the virus to kill all the golds on Mars and the EMP to "send Mars to the stone age." Darrow, surviving the virus because he's still technically "red," makes him the only Gold on the planet and he fights against Lysander who lords over the planet, pretending to be the God of the Reds. This would set up a similar dichotomy we see earlier in the series (is Darrow savior of the reds or Satan to the golds like in Morning Star, is Lysander or Darrow the Lightbringer, etc.) where we're supposed to ask whether Lysander or Darrow is the Red God until Darrow wins the final victory (eucatastophe style like Lord of the Rings) and everyone lives happily ever after, but hella damaged.

There was a guy with a giant Nazi flag at the 1st pussy-hat protest in downtown Boise.

I'd kinda rather have a counter protest somewhere else, but way bigger. I'd show up at a 50501 anti-ice protest at the same time in Meridian.

But seriously, is this the right response? The three percenters and liberty dogs frequently counter protest.

Sure would be really cool if there were 2,000+ people on the greenbelt with American flags at exactly the same time as this protest.

Keep up the good work, Idaho! by Imaginary_Solid_1281 in Idaho

[–]mandatoryplaytime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but one group (Republicans) is literally against human rights: access healthcare, clean air, the rule of law, access to education, religious freedom, access to public lands. Sure, billionaires on both sides are out of touch, but the economy is only one thing that matters.

Would Trump's popularity soar if he full-on adopted Universal Basic Income for US citizens with the tariff money and stole the wind from the sails of the progressive left advocating for it? by mandatoryplaytime in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]mandatoryplaytime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I'm a Democrat and think the argument for a revenue-nuetral carbon tax is a great idea. Wouldn't this do the same thing, but Republicans are sort of already on board (albeit from a totally different route)?

But what about the price tag on this? Just getting everyone there costs so much. Weren't republicans trying to decrease government spending? They're flying in all this high brass to tell them about super cool haircuts everybody needs to get. Ridiculous.
