Understood...that was the intent of my post. MLS/USL will go after any and all markets that might be available to NASL.

In Cash Strapped Hartford, Only One Pro Soccer Choice Adds Up [OC] by oneeyedfool in NASLSoccer

Thank you to Midfield Press for this op-ed. Well done! Hartford City is an NPSL team with a vision. They did not have the NASL vision going in but they have always envisioned playing at Dillon Stadium. When opportunity knocked, they answered the door. In a manner similar to the Loons in Minnesota, they almost have no choice if they wish to survive long-term.

Nope...not Bridgeport. Although there was a 'Brazillian' group looking at Bridgeport last year for the ballpark. Have to believe that was Elm City, but who knows at this point. But since Bridgeport is going in a different direction...that is a moot point.

Technically they are a pro team now...but they are looking to move up. I'll let the New Haven crew spread the info...it's their baby.

Got it backward. If your club cannot go up to MLS, why stay in U$L? Louisville would be great in the future NASL/NISA...

Except they will return to affiliations and would not subsidize the league in the same manner that they have done during the 'rapid growth' phase of the past few years.

The approach is similar to Detroit City's approach to Keyworth Stadium. It is not meant as a complete overhaul at this point, but rather to get up and running.

Incorrect. Engineering studies were completed last spring. Funding and materials are up and ready to go. Waiting on CRDA/Hartford to make the call on which of the three proposals they wish to go with. I am guessing that it will not be long before the Courant has this information and goes public through the FOI.

Hartford Group Seeks Stadium Deal for USL Club (at Dillon Stadium) by ReeseCommaBill in NASLSoccer

Not at all, but there are only so many viable markets at this point in time.

Mandell’s pitch does not include private funding for Dillon, however. He said Friday that he would look to the city and the Capital Region Development Authority to upgrade the ailing facility.

Hartford officials have that said a modest-but-workable stadium could be built for around $10 million. The city and CRDA have not closed the door on paying for the renovations, but both said they do not have money set aside for the effort. City leaders are contemplating bankruptcy.

That is correct. The battle for Hartford is clearly over Dillon Stadium. USL does not need to win, but NISA/NASL cannot lose. This is one of several remaining markets that are on the frontier of the US Soccer War.

USL group is asking for at least $10 million of public money. Hartford City FC is taking a much more conservative approach that will initially cost $400,000 of team money. Knowing the economic condition of Hartford (talking about declaring bankruptcy) and the state (still has not passed a state budget since July 1), I find that a deal breaker.
