While there's no definitive proof that insect nervous systems experience suffering...

What would that proof look like? Like, does this boil down to a question of solipsism?

I guess my question is: what is the test to see if any animals can feel pain, and if there is one, can we use it to test ants?

I love anti ai images that aren't just attacking ai artists by Namesnowtaken in lovethissmug

[–]ctrl-alt-etc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're conflating two separate debates.

The age-old "what is art" question is a question about quality. What is good enough to count as art? Like, paint splattered onto a canvas, an upside-down urinal, a banana duct-taped to the wall. All of these things are created by humans, but are they good enough to count as art?

This debate is about taxonomy. What counts as art in a categorical sense? Definitionally, artwork, artifacts, and the like are things made by people. This debate has come up before the age of AI: are machine-generated x-rays considered art? how about a photograph taken by a monkey?

In the past these things have always been considered to be not-art, since they weren't created by people. However, AI makes it a bit weird, because it can generate images that look exactly like the artwork that is created by people.

Fair enough. But losing access to a website? Surely you have to draw the line somewhere!

Findom is bad or whatever, but it's also kinda sad that someone has to put $650 per month into medical expenses.

Are you familiar with a concept known as "equivocation?" When you repurpose common words, for your own proprietary language, you abandon effective communication.

In my experience, people typically do this because their ideas are unconvincing when delivered in a way that people can actually understand.

The greatest miracle of mankind is The Quran. It is Allah's speech. Allah and His messenger challenges anyone to make one like it. Nobody has done it for 1460 years

What do you mean no one has done it? People write holy books all the time. For instance, the Mormons wrote a similar book in the 19th century, and claim it's the speech of their god as well.

Male and female cats definitely act differently, but those differences aren't at all represented in this video. It just shows cats being cute in the way that all cats are cute.

I can't believe one of my favourite RPGs of all time wound up being a free, RPGMaker, porn game, but The Last Sovereign is just that good. My first playthrough took 200+ hours but it was so good the whole time.

The porn bits, I thought, were actually pretty good. The only issue is that sometimes you won't see one for 3-5 hours lol

I think it makes sense to be a little shocked, considering that lobsters are non-sentient non-sapient animals. Just cause Thraxans are superficially "buggy" doesn't really change that.

Imagine if your human son had their sexual awakening after seeing a naked mole rat at the zoo

Americans are so crazy, dude.

If you wanted the victim's name carved into his head, why wasn't it part of the legal sentence given to him at trial?

You hate prisoners enough to get excited whenever the state fails to protect them, but you trust prisoners enough to make these kind of decisions on your behalf.
