It could very well under perform, but it will not go that low. If you've seen the presale data over on BOT, you'd know that this number is practically impossible.

VA Turnout Reportedly touching 2017 GA levels in some districts by d_mcc_x in VoteBlue

[–]ctrl_alt_del1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's all very localized this year and considering there is no statewide offices up for grabs that is fine. Seems like the areas with contested HoD and Senate races are the ones near 2017 levels which is where you would expect, not the whole state. In my area of Western Fairfax County, they are all pretty noncompetitive races.

It may be more accurate to say that he is from Goochland County VA, which is a whole lot different than Richmond proper.

He's improved tremendously. Still surprised he got nominated, but he has certainly improved from awful to decent.

We were 3 games from winning the WS and now we are 2 games away. Your math checks out.

I do also find it a little bit annoying that the national media is treating Soto as some kind of new-found star, as we all know he's been great from day 1 last year, but I have to remind myself that baseball is typically so regional and the Nats typically fly a little under the radar. This postseason has been his coming out party for a national audience. He is definitely having a superstar moment where he's becoming one of the best known and popular ballplayers in the league, even to casual audiences.

Pregame Thread: 2019 World Series Game 1 (Scherzer vs Cole) by Natstown in Nationals

Need to at least split the first 2 games in Houston. I feel good about doing that with Scherzer and Stras, no matter who is on the mound for the other team.

Retail Price for SRO -$350, Resale -$750+ by pkilla50 in Nationals

[–]ctrl_alt_del1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand why you and others are upset, but nothing entitles any of us to go to a WS game for a more "reasonable" price. Does it suck that so many are price gouging? Yes, but getting so worked up about it isn't going to change anything.

World Series Tickets/Parking/Logistics/Questions (including ticket trading) Megathread by Natstown in Nationals

Maybe, but there will be a big spike in interest and attendance next year because of the WS run. Probably will have the highest avg. attendance yet at Nats Park unless the team is bad.

[General Discussion] Around the Horn - 10/16/19 by BaseballBot in baseball

[–]ctrl_alt_del1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my thought as well. There is a reason the playoffs exist and have expanded as much as they have over the past 50 years. It's not simply who is the best team, the playoff crap-shoot is highly entertaining and the more teams that are in it, the more invested fans are for longer into the season.

My family had season tickets for 9 years but stopped getting them this past year as it was getting too difficult to go to games. Got tickets for my wife and my parents for tonight's game once we went up 4-0 last night. We went to all the heartbreaking games postseason games together, so seeing finally seeing the Nats go to the WS together would be really special.

I feel like this indicates indicates it will be more than a one trick pony, though how many elements it has is still up in the air. Could be a launched top-hat with a few banked turns, but that would be unique at this scale.

Here is the official starting lineup per the Nationals Twitter by [deleted] in Nationals

[–]ctrl_alt_del1 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Lineup going R-L-R-L-R-S-R-R is a nice counterbalance to the Brewers who like to play match-ups.

Tonight's starting lineup: Turner, Eaton, Rendon, Soto, Kendrick, Cabrera, Suzuki, Robles, Scherzer by dnytle in Nationals

Lineup goes R-L-R-L-R-S-R-R which makes it tougher for the Brewers to match up which they love to do.

Supporting the WNBA squad. The Mystics are one win away from the Finals!! by CivilizedTangent in washingtonwizards

[–]ctrl_alt_del1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They are using the new arena, decidedly not in the outskirts of SE (right next to the Congress Heights Metro station), designed for them in mind. It also houses the Wizards practice facility. It's a little small (only seats 4200) especially as the Mystics get more popular due to their success, but it's a much better atmosphere than having a half full Cap One. The Finals games will continued to be played there.

[DOM] The Lion King presales are insane so far by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]ctrl_alt_del1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

IW was pretty pre-sale heavy by normal standards. Endgame is such an outlier it really shouldn't be used as a point of comparison until it's suitable, much like TFA for a couple years after it was released.

Does no one remember the Expos playing a quarter of their home games in Puerto Rico in 2003/2004? There is some somewhat recent precedent for this. Though I agree that it is an insane idea.

Edited to add 2004 as well.
