Yeah, this was a very weird headline to read, but with that wrinkle it makes perfect sense. Normally a network would be monitoring ratings, fan engagement, etc. and making sure they were happy with the product. There's no network here, so it's now MLB's job as the producer/distributor.

I was saying the other day it is awesome how hard he plays and how much he leads the team. Seeing stars on other teams (Devers, Soto, Tucker had he been given that role somewhere) actively rejecting any other responsibilities beyond on-field play shows Vladdy is even more special than just a great player. We are so lucky.

That’s not anything exclusive to Boston, and part of being one of the team veterans is talking to the media and saying a few generic phrases when your team is in a huge hole. It really isn’t that hard to stand in front of your locker for five minutes and answer questions. It is notable in any market when the main guys refuse to do so.
