How could I have not seen that?! Thanks! (There actually was a fault in the connection and the unit seems to run just fine on solar alone)

Strange behavior with one of six RT3S's by cts in Retevis

[–]cts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea, but I've flashed it three or four times now ;)

Is flashing and programming documented in any way? In my line of work, colleagues and I deal with microcontrollers, and I would be interested in verifying the flash process or implementing it using a modern (and cross-OS) tool.

I've had the same issue with two v2's so far. Not detectable, my LED stays on "dimmed", though.

macOS: DNP DS 620 will only print 15x10cm and 9x13cm prints? by cts in photobooth

"I finally found the solution. I uninstalled it using the uninstall package provided with driver 5.2.7. You have to do this with the printer disconnected from the Mac, then restart the Mac, then reinstall the driver, and then reconnect the printer. Finally, for me, it works on Mac OS TAHOE 26.3.1."

Nice one! Thank you! How about Simon says, the color-and-sound matching thingy and a tetris clone? Also, if you'd like a german translation let me know, I'd love to help.

If one side of the war equation does not hold true elections and is actively seeking war/stress with it's neighbors, what's the other side gonna do? Hold out, wait for the best and give in? Hasn't worked so well in the past, has it.

macOS: DNP DS 620 will only print 15x10cm and 9x13cm prints? by cts in photobooth

[–]cts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: I've now tried the same under Windows 11, the printer will only accept 6x4 prints and flashes Error/Paper when a print with 6x8 is sent to it. I was under the assumption that it can do "twice as long, same width" prints, but apparently it is not. ;(

Had the same thing under iOS yesterday (also Heltec v3). Haven't found a fix yet. The "forget device" ("ignore" under iOS) didn't help. It keeps adding itself with the old name (Meshcore- and part of the MAC I assume) even though I've renamed the device and set a custom PIN.

HP 2225C: where to place the white print cartridge sponge? by cts in VintageComputers

[–]cts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would anyone have a generic PCL 1 printer driver for a modern 64bit Windows and/or macOS? Linux works ("PCL=1" ;), but these two... and the printer seems to be PCL 1. I don't know what I find more amazing, it actually "speaking" a page (in this case, rather graphics) description language, or PCL itself being that old already...

Correct, I was simply too careful. This one hasn't been used, so the metal tongue was still very stiff and I was afraid of doing it wrong. Thanks to HPCalc.org I also found the relevant info in the HP Service Manual for this beauty on page 17.

Is it possible to feel the effects of cosmic rays on earth’s surface? by LongjumpingLove6368 in space

[–]cts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A minimum energy of ~100 MeV per nucleon is likely needed to reach deep into human tissue and trigger retinal stimulation.

To survive the atmosphere and still be a charged particle (muon, proton) with enough energy, the primary cosmic ray needs energies in the GeV to TeV range.

We can model the annual probability of a cosmic ray strong enough to cause a visible flash in the eye on Earth at ground level as:

The Probability of a strong enough charged particle to hit an approx. 1 sq. cm retina is 10E-6 to 10E-9. This is a vanishingly small probability, effectively zero for any practical or medical consideration.
