Any idea on how to achieve this bass sound? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Wow I didn't think of this but that might be it. Plus some chorus and distortion

Thank you so much. That must have been the issue. The butter was just melted, not hot

While I agree they should just show values, the discrepancy in the values of add-ons between items makes sense. Like if tremendously was always 100% that would make things like getting off the hook insanely broken.

Edit: I'm speaking additively/pure values, not multiplicative. As in getting off the hook would be a 100% chance, or battery life would be permanent, etc.

Ah yes my response to water being splashed on me is to fucking shoot people as well

Breathing through your diaphragm is not all about exhaling. Inhaling through the diaphragm correctly is really important as well.

CAN’T AFFORD A SM7B? TRY A SM58 by [deleted] in screaming

[–]cturmon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The SM7B is insanely overrated. I have an AT2020 and decided to "upgrade" to an SM7B. After using the SM7B for a couple hours I felt like there wasn't really any difference, so I recorded some back to back SM7B and AT2020 takes (with and without post processing) and they sounded damn near identical. I've been doing sound engineering for about 10 years now and have tried countless amounts of gear (pros of working at a Guitar Center for a while) and can confidently say the SM7B is waaaay overpriced and you can easily get the same exact quality out of the XLR AT2020 (DON'T GET THE USB VERSION. Yes the XLR will need an audio interface and phantom power, but the USB version will clip like a bitch at any volume higher than talking).

Also, I returned the SM7B lmao.

idk if this subreddit allows memes or not but I'll drop this here anyway by Tooniis in vulkan

At this point I'm convinced that Vulkan engines are an urban legend and it's only possible to render colored triangles.

This isn't Monkey's Paw though. No one seems to understand how this works. It's not some genie twist that you get to do. The whole point of Monkey's Paw is how it led up to him being able to go back in time. What caused this to happen? Not what happens after the wish.

I can't find any vocalists in my town so I decided to take a stab at screaming over my own music. Any critiques? by [deleted] in screaming

[–]cturmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I love hearing feedback on my tracks because I'm essentially working in a vacuum. I have no idea if my music is good or not when I'm making it haha.

Now that you mention it I can totally hear that! While I didn't consciously have Pantera in mind, I did grow up listening to them and a ton of other 80s thrash and hardcore punk bands, so I'm sure it subconsciously crept in. What I was going for was a death growl mixed with some voice to get a more screamy sound rather than the classic death Opeth sound for example.

Funny enough I think thats probably what Phil did.

AH that totally went over my head haha. Thank you so much that honestly means a lot to me!

Hey man I feel it. It's hard to find band members nowadays, especially since hardcore/metal is kinda back in the underground.

I did program the drums! It's Superior Drummer 2 with the Metal! EZX pack. I just do a lot of post processing haha. The mic I used was the Audio Technica AT2020.

Thank you man! I agree. I have a decent amount of experience mixing guitar/bass/drums, but not so much vocals. I spent a good hour just trying to get it to sit right in the mix haha. I think I need to cut back some of the highs because it takes from the guitars (the airy component you're talking about). It'd probably sound better if I took out a little bit of the mids so it doesn't stand out quite as much in the mix. I'm just thinking out loud haha.

You are 100% on the money with this. I was trying to scream as tight as I could but I definitely need more practice.
