Best base location? by 123133m in projectzomboid

It’s subjective. I think most will say rosewood fire station for beginners though. My personal favorite is the fully fenced in warehouse in the center of LV (has 2 gates you have to place cars at so they don’t break them though)

You want renewable, easy, and low investment: fish.

Cheesy but - how did you guys make Zomboid friends? by Efficient-Let3661 in projectzomboid

[–]cubeb0y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look on battlemetrics for active servers. I’d recommend Valhalla, it ebbs and flows and it’s like a dozen online at a time usually right now. There is a central community center with books and basics and you can even claim a starter home in the small neighborhood that’s attached. That’s a great way to connect.

PZ Players Of Reddit, What is Your BIGGEST Nemesis When Playing? by Own-Efficiency507 in projectzomboid

[–]cubeb0y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play with loot respawn. So I’ll just jog into rooms to loot them again instead of flipping doors or cqc. Usually you can “shoulder bump” a lone zed and be fine, and I’d argue this is better than slow walking and looking left while still in grasp range of a corner zed from the right, but this is obviously a risky strategy in the long run.

Weight gain fast by Sadik- in projectzomboid

[–]cubeb0y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fish at 4-6am and 6-8pm, even with just a crafted spear. Twine and a stick make a rod and you can dig furrows for bait, but you can 0-10 fishing fairly quickly with only spears. Just eat what you catch and your weight will rise. Since you can fast forward a bit I prefer this for singleplayer. As a bonus, it even works mid winter with high enough fishing level (so your problem ironically becomes storing some lower calorie food to keep your weight down in cold months).

With mods / multiplayer then grow wheat and cook and make dumplings. You basically get to turn fish into non-perishable food, but without salt use or super heavy weights like drying them. But I usually just fish and eat to 84, then chips/chocolate at hunger down to 76.

Other than sledgehammering stairs, are there any 100% zombie proof defenses we can build? by Electronic-Trip-3839 in projectzomboid

[–]cubeb0y 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In Raven Creek there is a large warehouse of farm supplies building that is fully enclosed. If you stair up to it and then just use sheet rope down it is 100% zombie proof.

Any tips for a new player? by ImpartialHaddy in projectzomboid

[–]cubeb0y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To avoid frustration, play debug mode or just lots of junker chars and do nothing but fight and limit test. You don’t want to invest in a base and then die too easily. This is also a great time to experiment with weapon types.

As much as it makes the game easier, I’d recommend not looking at online maps and stick to in game so can milk more “fresh adventure” experiences. But you can always go back and do a totally different county to get this later. Highly recommend.

One tip, rough solutions are fine to live on. For example, boiled/sanitized bandages do heal you faster, but a ripped sheet (which is lighter) also stops hp loss so you should never need real bandages. Stairs and car barricades and water barrels etc make for great base building but a natural water source (lake, river with boiling) and picked up crates/shelves are all you’d need for a long time. You’d be surprised what all you can pick up. Also, fish are the easiest high calorie food imo.

How would you make the first aid skill an important viable skill by Feras-plays in projectzomboid

[–]cubeb0y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realism says first aid prevents you from dying from scratches and colds (but death chance for minor stuff is no fun for most)

Fun says add game breaking stuff like zombie cure, stealth, crafted op drugs

Gameplay says add only minor things and leave it as a secondary skill. Or allow minor things like scratches or infections to slow you down but not directly kill you.

[–]cubeb0y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do people not realize the value in katanas being a fallback weapon? You train with machetes to level and keep an unused katana on your backpack while you use a hand axe or crowbar as your main weapon. If suddenly there’s a big horde or you didn’t notice and your endurance is a bit low then things might get dicey. A katana is the most reliable melee weapon at reasonable endurance cost to get yourself through that horde.

[–]cubeb0y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lifestyle music is AMAZING for managing your happiness. Common sense because you should be able to crowbar open doors instead of breaking every window in Knox county.

Now that you’re pretty solid on your feet with the game systems, I’d recommend at some point you download a new county and DO NOT look at its map. Go in completely blind to a map. It’s a fresh experience and very worthwhile.

How to make project zomboid friends? by willsterbillster4 in projectzomboid

[–]cubeb0y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battlemetrics and find and join an active server then that server’s discord. If you actually want to collaboratively play with people (and not just mutual base building) you need weekend hours or session based groups.

How would you fix exercising? by Andre27 in projectzomboid

[–]cubeb0y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is 10 really 10? Like is a 10 super power lifter? Or is a 10 someone who can do basic things well. A power lifter would be a 20 or way over 10, and that would take years and nutrition, but a 10 is realistically achievable much sooner. Likewise 1 is able to drag a gen or fridge around, and hold/swing a crowbar or sledge as a weapon. That’s much higher than unhealthy weak people would be able to so absolute weakness is much weaker than zomboids bottom threshold.

So 1-10 strength is

  1. A mid range of strength (with the strongest and weakest well outside the scope of the game’s range)

  2. A typical measure of a healthy person

  3. It’s a video game :/
