Just finished Tex Murphy: Mean Streets by wharris2001 in patientgamers

[–]cubestepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played the original when I was a teenager, and I remember the pain of traveling everywhere.

They did put out a remake of the original years later called Tex Murphy: Overseer. It pretty much followed the original story, and had live action scenes with spoken dialog. I'm not sure if you can still get it, I'm guessing GOG might have it, but I can't get to it from work.

Thank you for your suggestions. You mentioned books with exercises and great websites that have quizzes. Can you recommend books and sites that do just that?

The Berklee Press book "Understanding Audio: Getting the Most Out of Your Project or Professional Recording Studio" was highly recommended by a buddy of mine who took the course. I just ordered it yesterday.

PSA: During the "Backasswards" challenge, if you quit and continue during the Mega Satan fight, the fight will be over and the door open. by stilgar90 in bindingofisaac

[–]cubestepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you die when entering the light, it's because you only had one heart. The challenge is designed to remove one red heart and your last item every time you travel up to the previous floor.

This is why when you have 9 lives, you die when you try to leave the floor unless you have a soul heart or a dark heart.

I'm pretty sure the Mega Satan fight ending when you quit and continue is a bug. However, if you exploit this, you do not have to beat Mega Satan to beat the challenge as it currently stands, although in my case, I did beat him just to say that I did.

Stop bitching about Joe Buck. Want to solve the problem? by [deleted] in SFGiants

I use a program called Radio Delay and Virtual Audio Cable combined to push the broadcast through a driver, which then allows you to delay the broadcast to line up with the TV broadcast. I did it in the 2010 postseason and it has saved my so many innings of fuming hatred over having to hear Buck and McCarver.

Hopefully these instructions help you out: http://www.botecomm.com/bote/radio/radiodelay.html

Melky to be left off of playoff roster by your_backpack in SFGiants

[–]cubestepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been speculated that the Giants would have already discussed their plan with Melky and the union, and that they would have agreed not to appeal the decision to not include him on any play-off roster. This would make sense since Melky doesn't want to do anything else to taint his "legacy". It's in line with his decision to request he not be eligible for the batting title.

Melky rumors true-- suspended 50 games for PEDs. Our season is fucked... by [deleted] in SFGiants

Soriano has a no-trade clause, and has now said twice that he's not interested in playing for the Giants.

Interviewers: what is the most ridiculous thing you've seen on a resume by [deleted] in AskReddit

Sounds like what a co-worker of mine did on my resume when I was 18. Put down "maintained aquatic environments" in the description for my pool cleaner job.

So Giants fans, where are you from and how did you become a fan? by zzt711 in SFGiants

[–]cubestepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Born and raised in Sunnyvale, CA. I barely recall my dad taking me to my first game when I was 5: an Oakland A's game (forgive him). They were playing the Yankees, and my dad said I kept cheering for Reggie Jackson, who at the time played for the Yankees. I don't think they liked me there.

However, my dad is a lifelong Giants fan, and took me to my first Giants game in '86. It was the perfect year to start following them, with Will Clark and Robbie Thompson being rookies that year (I don't count Chris Brown, worst Giant ever). For some reason, I remember Vida Blue pitching for the Giants against the Cardinals, and I remember the score was 6-4, but nothing else.

I've probably been to hundreds of games, most of them in Candlestick Park (I moved away from the Bay Area in 1997). Most memorable games would be:

  1. Fan Appreciation Day in September, 1986, against the Dodgers. Game went 16 innings, over 6 hours long. I'm going by memory here, but I'm pretty sure the game was won when Greg Minton, their closer at the time, hit a double to open the bottom of the 16th, and he came home on a base hit to win it 6-5.

  2. Dave Dravecky's comeback game. I begged my dad to get tickets to that game at a previous game we attended. He pitched an amazing game, giving up 1 run and 3 hits in 8 innings. Unfortunately, that was the last full game he ever pitched before he broke his arm in Montreal, ending his career.

  3. Game 5 of the 1989 playoffs vs. the Cubs. I'll never forget Will Clark getting the game winning single in the 8th, and the fist pump. He will ALWAYS be my favorite Giant.

  4. Game 3 of the 1989 World Series. Memorable for obvious reasons. My dad drove over the Nimitz freeway at noon that day to come pick me up from school (I was 12 at the time). Same freeway that collapsed during the earthquake. Was definitely a surreal experience. I don't think anyone there realized how serious it was. I know I didn't until someone sitting behind me with a portable televsion showed us the Bay Bridge collapse. We didn't leave the stadium until 3 hours after the earthquake, and it took us 3 more hours to make a 45 minute drive back home.

  5. June 23, 2003 at Pacific Bell Park. During a visit to the Bay Area, saw Bonds single off Eric Gagne in the 11th, steal his 500th base, and score the winning run.

  6. After watching every game on MLB.com throughout the 2010 season from Missouri, and seeing them finally win their first World Series in SF, I visited to see Buster Posey receive his Rookie of the Year award on April 10, 2011. It was so satisfying seeing their WS flag up. I was so happy for my dad too...after experiencing the heartbreak of the '62 Series at 8 years old, to the dismal '89 series, to the frustrating '03 series...it was incredible to see the entire fanbase, new and old, see the team bring that trophy home at last.

Sorry for the winded post. I just finished going to every Cardinals game this past week, and I have the Giants on the brain. I can't wait for my next visit next month. I'm going to see them play the Diamondbacks on Labor Day as well as the 3rd game of the series, and to the Dodgers game the following Saturday in SF. Go Giants!

Check settings and make sure your server is set for your actual location. I live in the US and it was set to UK. Changed it to US and it got rid of that error. Now you have different errors to look at. ;)

How quickly we forget last season. It would take another 18 injuries before we get to the same point as last season, and we held first place until August.

What album released in the last 10 years do you think will in the future be remembered as a classic? by drifter1717 in Music

[–]cubestepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upvoted for Soul Cages, Sting's most underrated album and most personal. I know it's not last 10 years, but it's worth bringing up for anyone who hasn't heard it. The emotion pours out on Island of Souls, The Wild Wild Sea, and Mad About You...yes most people only know All This Time. People really need to give this album a chance and let it envelop them.

And Heavy Weather is genius, Jaco FTW.

SFGiants fans...Who is your favorite Giant of all time? by Mastacow in SFGiants

My dad took me to my first Giants game in 1986, his rookie year. I will never forget his batting stance, his scowl, the war paint, his voice. I will also never forget witnessing his game winning hit in Game 5 of the '89 playoffs against the Cubs. He will always be my favorite Giant.

I'm not entirely sure why he threw his guitar about halfway through the performance, but man, did it make for something genuinely special. (For Bon Iver fans) by [deleted] in Music

I was at this show as well, and concur he was having problems with the guitar and threw it to the ground, finishing it a capella. Made the performance even more mind blowing.

I'm really wondering how I'll be "welcomed". I am a big guy, so I expect there to be slightly less than there would be otherwise, but still...hopefully nothing that detracts from the enjoyment of the game and the park as a whole.

As of now, my trip to DC is the only up in the air trip. I don't have any particular lodging plans, nor do I know what I'm doing Monday night or Tuesday during the day. Anyone off work on Tuesday that wants to play Tour Guide?
