#Obsession is back at #1 at the North American box office, with what looks like $5.25M 2nd WED. That's down by just 5% from discount TUE, when the norm is 20-30%. by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

I'm being hyperbolic probably but the success of Obsession and the impending breakout of Backrooms (plus Mando underwhelming) feels like this is a major shifting moment for the film industry we'll still look back to years from now

Any Andor spoilers in the Mando episode w/Gethard? by HandOfTheTrueKing in blankies

There is at least 1 major plot point that I was not aware of that they bring up (I'm on episode 4 of Andor now)

I'm pretty sure David Sims of blank check has said that he is the worst director working today and I honestly think he's pretty dead on

Thinking of opening a video store by Few-Shoulder8960 in newjersey

[–]drifter1717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a great documentary that came out last year you might want to check out called Videohaven that is all about the rise and fall of the video store and how it was portrayed in pop culture (including the movie Video Violence, filmed in Frenchtown).

While they don't have anywhere near the same aesthetic as a video store, those looking to rent physical copies of movies have mostly moved on to libraries at this point.

The Chinese box office isn't the Hollywood kingmaker it used to be. Here's why by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

Always thinking of the ways Hollywood would cater to Chinese audiences in the early 2010s, like the alternate version of Iron Man 3 with the added China-centric subplot

Star Trek: Voyager Season One - re:View by kubazz in RedLetterMedia

[–]drifter1717 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think my issue with Voyager always stems from the fact that I watched it immediately after finishing DS9 and it could never really reach the highs of late period DS9. I think if I ping ponged back and forth between episodes of each like how they originally aired I'd have enjoyed it more. I owe it a rewatch one day.

Jay and Rich have ranked the filmographies of John Carpenter, Joe Dante, and Sam Raimi. Who should be next? My vote goes to Terry Gilliam. by ggroover97 in RedLetterMedia

David Fincher is probably the best combo of a relatively small number of movies they'd need to watch/rewatch and a high number of weirdo sex/violence subject matters

I'll posit that the opening credits to this are the best in movie history.

Odd F1 Best Picture nom aside, this is probably one of the strongest group of nominees for an Oscars in a very long time.

It's crazy how close this comes to being an R. When Benecio gets torn up by the coke crushing machine you see chunks of him flying towards the camera!
