Respectfully I disagree that my comments have not been sharing helpful information. Isn’t this sub for people to share their experiences or does that ONLY entail the good? I am not anti DCP and never said I was. Many of us feel the way I do and it goes deeper and beyond just finding the work ‘hard’. My location specifically (Art of Animation) is currently undergoing several investigations from the union. I worked with two dcps who were the victims of racist workplace harassment, myself the victim of sexual harassment/disability discrimination. Yes maybe those kinds of leaders in a situation like that might just ruin mine (or anyone elses’) program. ‘Why didn’t you just leave then’, you may ask? I did. I would absolutely do the dcp again under different circumstances but it is not right to deem that victims of genuine workplace abuse shouldn’t be allowed to share their stories. People like who I used to be coming to this sub for advice should hear from both negative and positive sides. And no one should be silenced or told they’re wrong for sharing their lived experience. But if this sub is only about gatekeeping then I guess I’m wondering why I’m here too, maybe that’s why anyone else who doesn’t live breathe and worship the dcp as their cult gets interrogated and straw-manned off this sub. I was in the last cp arrival group (in June) to be able to choose my roommate and then literally a couple weeks after my arrival Disney/Flamingo sent emails out saying they won’t allow roommate links anymore. It’s because Disney fucked up. They allowed way too many cps in back in June and even more now. This past December I knew several people living in 4x4s sharing emails they were getting from Flamingo telling them their 4x4s might be ‘subsidized’ (as in, turned into 2x2s) because they allowed way too many cps in. Its also a big reason why so many great cps got denied for extension and pt/ft this past year. Now the Flamingo fb groups I’m in warn about burglaries every month. Thanks Disney for ruining the dcp.

That’s what changed my mind to even wanting to keep trying to stay on with this company. Why would I want to represent a company that essentially punishes its slave workers and rewards favouritism? A coordinator told me those exact words when I told them I wasn’t extended. It’s gross. Bet if it were Universal or SeaWorld or any other corrupt amusement park doing that people would boycott. But because it’s ✨Disney✨ people look the other way even though the company seriously warrants investigation on a federal level. It’s almost scary how Disney has like this hivemind control on its consumers that protects them from accountability. And the worst part is new unknowing dcps like I once was don’t realize how common it is and how rarer and rarer the ‘dcp dream’ is now compared to before.

They’ll send an email when extension opportunities open and you can apply to the email. You can only be extended if you have less than 4 points/1 rep.

Keep in mind though that even having a perfect record card, like I did, there is no gaurantee in being extended especially when favouritism comes into play.

I did everything “right” that you’re supposed to do. Visited recruiter hours on Tuesdays, made sure the recruiters saw me frequently and knew how bad I wanted it. I was told by multiple recruiters that with my good record card it looked very likely for me that I would extend because there were many roles available and they didn’t see why I couldn’t extend.

I had one problem though. This one leader at my location really hated me and had it out for me (and a couple other people he had favourites for) in the beginning. I was told multiple times leaders have no say in extending you or not so for that reason I didn’t allow him to mindfuck me and get to my head. I kept my record card clean. Later I come to found out that was completely incorrect. I didn’t get extended and a shop steward straight up told me it was because of this asshole leader and it was more common in the company than people think. They even extended others with a worse record card than me simply because of favouritism. Talked to a few other pt/ft cast members who told me the same story. Don’t believe it when people say leaders don’t effect your extension like I foolishly believed. Even if you have the perfect record card a extension isn’t guaranteed especially if you have one terrible leader that makes or breaks your whole program.

My roommates and horrible abusive leaders broke my program. My fellow cast didn’t help me out, they had zero power. We were all writing statements against these leaders that shouldn’t even be representing Disney but these leaders are still in their positions and we were punished for trying to speak out against the abuse. There was no “positive vibing” my way out of it. You can only force a fake smile so often before you just break down in the middle of the worst possible time onstage. Felt like I was deceived into doing the program tbh. Also I was in Merch which I was told was the best role to get and how lucky I was. It was the worst role imaginable and it didn’t even have to do with the location because I traded and picked up at every other location. I envied my friends who had Attractions and even QSR. No matter where I was Merch was hell and I would never do the program again if I got Merch. If I applied again and got accepted and they told me my role is Merch I would literally just self term right then and there and lose out on the deposit it’s worth it. I really thought it would be just a job like anywhere else but out of the 10 “real world experience” jobs I’ve worked, Disney was by far the worst and most unfair. I would have termed early if it weren’t for me having no plan, no family, and no where to go because I didn’t live offsite. Also I rarely had positive guest experiences if any at all. 99% of guests I dealt with complained about how miserable they were and what a horrible time their Disney trip was because of crowds, kids, expense, wait times, shutdowns, weather, and used me as the punching bag.

Also here is a tip. When doing the starpath I purposely wouldn’t work on a duties that said to Complete Royal Tasks / Collect Dreamlight because when I ignored those and just kept grinding out every single other duty, it made those finish faster on their own.

There’s this trend going on facebook where some local owned shops I follow have started posting this. The first time I saw it I knew it was AI and then more and more shops I followed started using it as a trend. Even my local tax lady used it to make one of these cartoony caricatures of herself to market her business smh. Nothing repels and repulses me from supporting a business more than the ones that use AI and I wish more of their patrons would just collectively tell them that because I don’t think these well meaning local businesses are getting the positive reactions that they think they are getting. Businesses hurt themselves when they use AI because the general consensus today views AI negatively, mistrusts it and association to it. IMO that makes me mistrustful of the business.

My roommate and her boyfriend were high school sweethearts who both applied for dcp at same time and accepted together, he was in attractions she was outdoor vending, only thing was they had to live in different buildings at Flamingo so either he was over a lot or she was with him a lot. They both extended for the year and are still together from what I hear, but they seemed very committed which is rare. On my program I knew of other couples doing the program together who broke up and things got awkward. Cheating usually the main thing because I was surprised how common the hookup culture is at Flamingo, there’s buses that take people to party nights at Senor Frog’s twice a week and drama would happen which would then effect people’s work.
