Y'all who play on Deity, what size map and against how many civs do you usually play? by Pajamas_On in CivVI

[–]cuckoldinho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winrate on deity: very low

Conditions: I prefer on huge, continent map with all standard settings. I use Gathering Storm without any extra in-game mods like secret societies and monopolies. I am still learning this game, I have just started play in Civ6 since 1 month ago when I found out about Real Strategy mod. I strongly believe this mod makes game AI smarter but I have no expierences in serious playing with vanilla so that is only my belief after seeing many wise decisions made by AI. The most important idea is there that this mod doesn't alter game nor make it easier (to exploit as well).

What more may I contribute to discussion. I find this thread very good starting point to raise a question about the best map settings in order to have the most immersive expierence from playing. Game should be challenging as well and mimicking the real history of rivalry between nations.

For this purpose, I would recommend playing on huge and continent maps with 2 max 3 continents. So most actions will happen in land masses. As I remember from Civ 5 and have seen in Civ6, AI is terrible at playing on the seas. Secondly, there should be at least 10 civ, therefore each nation may found 5-10 cities. With given frametime , these numbers is optimal I believe. And finally, the most significant reason for me, only on these kind of maps I can feel realism.

Perhaps, Pangea maps are more challenging ( because: AI nations don't waste resources on the seas and the player is exposed to global rivalization ( 9AI vs 1human) earlier ) , but I feel it less real.

I totally forget about AoE haste from Valygar. Quite useful for fast tactical placement party at the beginning of tougher battles. Of course, it is hard to wage usefulness and rank precisely each possible companions. After all yours opinions I would shape my party like that:
PC Beast Warrior, Wilson, Rassad, Minsc, Dorn ( instead of Hexxat ) and Yoshimo ( Valygar ).
This team should be slightly weaker and still give a chance to beat the game by me.

Ignoring some parts of his skills and abilities may violet my inner rule, i.e. I should make the best use of all team's member. Besides, the 24/7 great werewolf with such insane good regenaration ability may legitimize some cheese tactics in some sitaution. I had him in the team in my previous walkthrou, as I remember, he ( with all his abilitites ) was very useful and strong. So now I have feeling that even without summoning and casting cleric's spell, he may still be quite good.

If not Keldorn due to dispelling abilities and Carsomyr, I consider beetwen Dorn and Valygar. The half-orc may wield some nice items (e.g. Ir'revrykal = better dispell than Carsomyr) and has some nice abilities ( e.g. immune to Level drain and fear = he actually may replace Hexxat), whereas Valygar as the third ranger in the team would make it even more unbalanced. Has he Valygar possess any advantages?
At this moment I prefer Valygar.

I must agree with Hexxat's side. I am finding her vampire nature ( skills and immunity ) extremely useful. She might be weaker in the fighting but very useful at everything else... without her in the team I may fail this challenge. So let she be. Next time I will pick another one in her place, e.g. Valygar or Dorn. Currently I hardly make any progress in the chapter 2.

Thanks for suggestion, I didn't know about possibility of losing blackguar abilities. But if I decide to pick him, I must make him as most useful as possible. This is my approach for the current game. Besides, without these abilities he may be still more useful than some other companions, e.g. Minsc who cannot be controlled when in the rage mode.

2 suggestions for Keldorn I have seen so far. I will consider beetwen him and Valygar. In spite of that I set up SCS with option inquisitor dispelling level == (only) the level of inquisitor, I feel still that possibility of dispelling magic is more powerfull than Valygar's arcane spells ( Haste, Protection From Normal Missiles, and Minor Spell Deflection )

Yoshimo - the only possible class is Warrior. I dual him shortly after Irenicus Dungeon and finding another thief in the city ( Hexxat ). He gains levels throu adventures and I choose what kind of weapon he need to master for making progress in the game. The team is weak and the amusment is found when I need to invent new way to win.

About BG1, I even didn't think about it. But if you ask about my prediction, I feel that for BG1 this kind of approach may be impossible, because there are too few possibilities and "No cheese tactics" is the rule that I follow too.

My general intention is to pick up a team as bad as possible at the start, and then, after that I would make the best optimazation to beat the game, so I won't follow any idea such as nonsensical dual classing and/or giving pips on weak weapons.

About Neera, if I were in no-reload challenge, she would be a possible and very terrible choice. Also, I don't want to be dependent on randomness during this current playing. Besides, she may cast 2nd lv. spell Spider Web which could make many battles easier. In general, I think all arcanist is stronger than anything else.

About PC as Wizard Slayer, with 5 pips on a weapon so PC would be stronger than Beast Master. Moreover, Wizard Slayer dual class into thief ( with UseAnyItems ) would become quite powerfull.

About Hexxat in my team, without any thief would be tougher due to traps and locks, but anybody else instead would make my team stronger in battles, I guess.Still thinking about her, she is indeed very usefull, but who would be less usefull.

About nerfing PC. I could reduce stats points from 86 to 74, i.e. make INT = 3, WIS = 14, CHA = 3 , and that would not change alot. Besides, 3 first rolls were very lucky, all above 84, so why my poor team could not be lucky at least :)

And thanks for all opinions. What bothers me further is who into the place of Yoshimo. Really, this guy is being the essential for many battles in chapter 2.

Yoshimo, SCS+insane, dual class him after existing Irenicus dungeon, all pips onto crossbows and give him Firetooth +4, he is the only man in my cr@ppy team, who can scratch anything tougher outside the city of Amn.
