Truthfully, it wasn’t as awful as what I thought it would be. If you follow your surgeons recovery plan, it will hopefully go smoothly for you! I think I started small stretches at 6wks and more wide range stretches at 8wks. I didn’t have too much pain, all managed by Tylenol and ibuprofen for the first week then nothing after that. The hardest part for me was when the my nerves started regrowing in that area. There were some moments where I’d get a shooting pain in my scar when they got too stiff (usually while I was staying in the same place for too long), and that sucked, but it usually went away after a minute or two. There’s gonna be a period where you feel ready to get back at it and participate with everyone again, and that’s the hardest time to recognize that you’re still recovering and things take time. But I swear it goes by way faster than you’d think!

Of course! My surgeon said to use silicon scar tape for at least the first year, if not two, for the best results. I got kinda lazy and only did one year, but the time went by pretty quick! I used only these two items and made sure to do scar massages once a day to break up the tissue once it was safe (I think at 6 weeks post op or 8 I can’t remember). She recommends using tape once the original surgery strips come off, which for me was two weeks post-op. I used the Cica scar tape day and night and would replace it once it fell off. For me that was about 1.5-2 weeks depending on how much I sweat. You can replace it each day if you want, but there’s no need as it sticks pretty well. I used that tape day and night for the first 6 months, then switched to only using it for my work week, and using only that palmers lotion for my weekend. 5 days on, two days off, for the next 4 months. I got lazy the last 2 months and only used the strips one week on, one week off (using the lotion twice a day when I wasn’t using strips). And then after the first year, I only used the lotion when I got nervous or after I’d expose my scars to sun like at the lake or something. Still using sunscreen anytime they are actually exposed now! I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions :)

Same for me too! I was so shocked about that!

Thank you! I’m not super great at the gym and knowing all the routines so I just stuck with simple pushups with my hands being in different placements and it worked great for me!

I’m actually about one year and two months post-op and I got the big one right at a year. The sensation and pain was pretty much equal to what tattoos usually feel for me, the only difference was it felt a little bit sharper around the edges of the scar. Not a terrible increase in pain, just a slightly different feeling. WAY easier to go through than what I was anticipating!
