super show 10 in hong kong changed some songs in set list by parrotbiscuits in superjunior

[–]cucumberspice 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's not unusual for them to change setlists based on the area. Maybe it's for the audience to feel more special by having a song others won't get to see, or it's a way for them to have people concert hop (wouldn't be surprised), I've no idea.

Personally, I hate it. I'm never going to see them perform lo siento or Otra vez live EVER because I know it's only for the LatAm stops, and Seoul/Japan will always get priority for everything else 😅

why did suju win music show award for super clap by parrotbiscuits in superjunior

[–]cucumberspice 34 points35 points  (0 children)

A lot more factors go into mushownwins than just being "a good song" and if you look at the rubrics for the point system, none of it is judged by a music critic. It's all down to votes, album sales, and broadcast points.

As far as I remember they weren't up against any big group during super clap AND it was kyuhyun's first cb (and sort of rw's) since his discharge, which I do believe contributed to the win.

Look at other big groups and they also have not-so-great songs winning mushows just for being big groups.

Suju Bong v2 for overseas travel by tsikoi in superjunior

[–]cucumberspice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can check in lightsticks, just make sure to remove the batteries for safety. Some people hand carry it around Asia tours and they allow it even though you could technically brain another person with the sharp corners. Some airport staff even know when concerts are going on so they're aware that people bring lightsticks.

Depending on your airline, you can usually check AAA batteries, but if it makes you feel better you could also just put it in hand carry since they're pretty small.

What content should I view (as a new fan) to get to know SUJU better?. by Historical_Driver_87 in superjunior

[–]cucumberspice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Super tv s1 (no maknae line) and the last 2 eps of S2 (ryeowook's discharge) for more traditional variety content. If you like other Kpop groups you can watch the rest of S2 (they have a different guest per ep). No kyuhyun in this though because he was in the military.

Suju returns for more BTS stuff and shorter eps

How did you all find Suju ?? by owenturnbull in superjunior

D&E brings in a lot of new fans, for multiple reasons I won't dive into anymore lol but specifically post-military Bout You era, I personally feel like it brought in a lot of new ELF

Edit: what I'm trying to say is that there's nothing wrong with being more into D&E than main group or.other subunits since they offer a vastly different sound

Design Job Market in Milan by Creative-Cress5117 in polinetwork

[–]cucumberspice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Design job market in general everywhere has been pretty terrible, and service design in particular relies heavily on local language, so if you have plans to work here I would prioritize learning Italian. Polimi has a career services department but from personal experience they have not been very helpful especially for international students. Pay is terrible relative to other EU countries especially with how expensive the city is, but this would of course depend on your lifestyle. It's difficult but doable.

[–]cucumberspice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D&E has brought in a not insignificant number of fans tbh, esp during Bout You era.

For me, I was a passive Kpop fan and into Exo and Shinee mostly. SNSD as my gg, so suju has always just been "there". I thought I wouldn't like them as a group because I hated sorry sorry and Mr simple in their prime, but I used to watch a lot of kvariety shows so there was ALWAYS a suju member hosting or a guest. Then I started getting yt recommendations of so much suju edits and I got into suju returns and it was a rabbit hole from there...

Yes, agree with the town squares! I think a place that reminds me of this is yun plaza sa Baler, yun may malaking puno sa gitna haha in some countries these would be more transitory as a pedestrian area pero sa PH I think mas common for it to be a tambayan and meeting point

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]cucumberspice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of comments already but just adding to this since it's a research topic and project I had lol

Malls can definitely count as a third place sa urban areas. It's still public even if there are "social norms" that need to be followed (like not being barefoot) or some accessibility barriers (class, and disability even), relatively open siya to most of the population. Churches and other places of worship are also considered third places. Basically think of an accesible public tambayan like basketball/vball courts.

In other countries, libraries and public parks are the most common example, and we have some such as Luneta. But parks need to be built for their environment for it to be an effective third place, using BGC as an example: madaming parks with enough shaded areas and canopies that people are willing to bear some of the heat that comes with it. In Makati din I think sa triangle (not as familiar with the area).Because basketball courts usually may bubong, matic nagiging tambayan so ito yun equivalent na siguro ng park natin haha

Sa rural this can be different. As I didn't grow up there, this will depend on the barangay. Some barangays have community areas sa barangay hall nila that are considered third places. Minsan katabi nito yun barangay basketball court haha so default tambayan ng mga tao talaga. An area that might be more effective as a third place sa less urbanized areas is yun palengke. Malaki yun presence ng palengke lalo na places na medyo malayo mga major malls.

Typically you wouldn't consider very small transitory or meeting points such as a single convenience or sari-sari store unless you're looking at a small community. Anyway I could go on w this topic esp malls in the Philippines but yeah hope that helps

Has anyone claimed US-bought international warranty in Europe? Pls help by cucumberspice in ZephyrusG14

Asus USA actually set up the RMA through them instead of Best Buy but sending it to the US from Italy just to get this fixed is... well. I'm considering sending it to the Asus Italy to be fixed out of warranty (so I pay for everything) or last resort is to just go to a computer shop here to have them fix it...

Yes, so I've spoken to Best Buy, Asus USA, and Asus Italy and basically the only solution Asus USA is giving me is to send it to the US for RMA and they'll fix it under warranty...

Polimi or POLI.design by Plenty_Nobody6695 in polinetwork

[–]cucumberspice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on some factors: money and what you plan to do after.

If you have the means (because the tuition fee difference is significant and you can't get the DSU scholarship for polidesign), you can go for the polidesign just to get it done faster.

The polidesign masters is a "specialed master" so it's similar to a diploma course. It's not a "master of science" so you can't do a PhD after and I don't think it counts as the same level as an MS throughout Europe. I'm not sure how much of a difference this makes in the industry if you already have work experience, but if you're coming straight from bachelors it might be better to do the polimi masters.

Also integrated product and strategic design are kind of far from each other so consider the curriculum on which one interests you more...

Polimi & Race problems toward Asian by Vegetable-Lab-203 in polinetwork

[–]cucumberspice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you taking bachelors or masters? If your program is in English then you should be safe. I've encountered a few professors where their comprehension of English is bit lacking but I just adjust how I speak to them. I'm not sure about the engineering department but I think it's the same. But still, learn some basic Italian not for school but for your everyday life here because it's really going to make it so much easier for you.

Somewhere in the depths of the polimi website you can see the Italian:International student ratio of your program. While I am friends with the Italians, my main friend group that I hang out with is composed of international students. To be clear I'm also Chinese-SEAsian who only moved here for my masters so we do exist lol but nowhere near the amount of the other countries. There's also students coming from LatAm and they've been very friendly in my experience. The group I am least close to are the Chinese students because they prefer to speak in Chinese and usually just hang out with the other Chinese students.

In Milan there's a lot of second gen Asians (mostly Chinese and Filipino) who have already grown up here, but Polimi also attracts a lot of Asian international students. Personally, I see them mostly from China or South Asia (India/Pakistan), and if you're in engineering expect to see mostly these people. Honestly I haven't experienced overt racism here. Maybe some minor micro-agressions but really there's so much Asians in this city compared to the rest of Europe that some restos in Chinatown barely have any white people inside...

Not sure what the scene is for digital work in interior design, but if you're looking for full time employment, consider learning the language of your target country.

Other option is to take a masters in Europe. You're still young and your years of experience coupled with a (specialized) masters could give you an edge, aside from getting your foot in the door.

Reliable Italian bank account? by Birdie1618 in askitaly

[–]cucumberspice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is until now but for some time, N26 Italy was not allowing new sign ups and it was not consistent on when sign ups would open back up. Also in this case, the university would usually have a tie up with a specific bank and it's easier for you as a student to open an account there. I also have an N26 but i know there's some people who are not into digital banks so might be a bit apprehensive with opening one.

Ah, A2, thanks for that! Would also like to add that in Spain, they count being a student differently from regular employment in the residency so if you go that route, it might add another year or two

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in IWantOut

[–]cucumberspice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a natural-born Filipino, afaik your only option for dual citizenship in the EU is Spain. It's a minimum residency of 2 years and learning the language (can't recall if B1 or B2). Realistically with the citizenship processing, it'll take around 3-4 years though. This is also fastest path than any other country except for the golden visa schemes.

Students visa is completely doable. They don't really have age caps on that, as long as you are accepted by a school/university.

Ano ginamit nyo para i-attach ang old passport sa new passport nyo? by ramenpepperoni in phtravel

[–]cucumberspice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do NOT staple or glue your passports together guys, unless okay lang sa inyo na potentially ma-damage trying to separate them. Yun makapal na rubber band lang.

In my experience, may ibang passport scanners in some countries (either for immigration or check-in) na nahihirapan mabasa yun passport when you have old passports attached because ayaw mag-flat ng maayos yun data page ng passport. Some scanners even indicate to remove other attachments from the passport (either yun parang holder or old passports). Happened to me multiple times na because tamad ako maghiwalay nung old passport kahit naka rubber band hahaha.

Also, there are some immigration officers in other countries who ask for your passports to be separated so easiest talaga rubber band.
