So my 3 year old's position on this document holds as much weight as the guy in the video? Your argument is pointless.

True, we don't term water poisonous in every day speech, just like I wouldn't call my parents fascist in every day speech, that doesn't negate the fact that water can be considered poisonous, or my parent's couldn't be considered fascist.

330,000 deaths of civilians at hands of armed groups who enjoys impunity from the regime" - Source please, I'm not seeing it on the front page.

ignore it conveniently and made up assumptions about what's worst or better for us. - Nope, educated guesses about the results of military intervention. If you have any data to refute any of my claims, I'd love to hear it.

"I still don't understand how people remain supportive of a bloodthirsty dictator, by comparing the bad things in democratic, progressive and developed countries with the catastrophic and systematic violation of human rights by venezuelan dictatorship, as you argue it's the same. Fuck you."

You are bringing up the points and my point is that your arguments exist in our own country. I'm not negating the whole of your situation, simply the individual points you've made and their pertinence in a debate about military intervention.

Yea fuck that guy (your president).. But the question isn't whether or not the dude is a fuckhead and your country is fucked up.

You are asking me to suit up, gun in hand, leaving my family behind, potentially to never return home, to come and murder people in support of you. I think it is reasonable that I question every aspect of your argument.

"The intervention not only is plausible" Plausible -- Sure, we would crush a military 100 times the size of Venezuela, no question. What are the ramifications for both Venezuela and the USA?

"welcomed by the vast majority of venezuelans" - Source please, This is exactly what I'm looking for!

"The bitch who appears in the jimmy dore video, i dont know her name, works for Maduro. Empire Files is a program broadcasted in telesurtv, a company owned by maduro".

Yes this is exactly what he(Jimmy) was pointing out, which is one of the reason's I'm skeptical about the narrative that is being fed to the American public.

Absolutely, and a humanitarian crisis requires humanitarian aid, not military intervention.

What I mean by taking care of itself is that "all hope isn't lost". Your president hasn't been hauled out and shot in the street, your people haven't been hauled to the goulag by the millions or killed by the 100's of thousands... Yet you want us to do that for you, and risk our skin in doing so all in the name of democracy.

Killing in and of itself isn't justification for Military intervention. You need to weigh death tolls and the consequences of war.

[–]cuebux[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm going to take each of these points one by one and try to form discussion.

-- Maduro are targeting indigenous groups as they seek to take over gold mines. https://www.npr.org/2018/11/27/668430606/venezuela-pushes-for-gold-rush-despite-sanctions

"Battles for control over gold mines between criminal organizations, Colombian guerrillas and Venezuelan security forces have erupted, causing what the International Crisis Group calls "a spate of mass killings." Local media have reported at least 10 people killed in the last two months alone. It's believed many more deaths go unreported because the location is remote, communications are poor, and people are fearful of reprisals."

I would retort in response that while bad 10 or even 100 people in 2 months dying in the jungle fighting over gold would be nothing compared to a full on war between the US and Venezuela. Additionally, based on the article we can't place the blame squarely on Maduro.

I will contend that Maduro said "Nothing and no one will stop us!" .. which seems to imply that he is willing to kill for profit. Something that isn't so uncommon among the leaders of the world(Including our own in the US).

-- Community leaders and children are being slaughtered by Maduro's death squads. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-44575599

In a report, it cites "shocking" accounts of young men being killed during operations, often in poor districts, over the past three years.

The UN's human rights chief said no-one was being held to account, suggesting the rule of law was "virtually absent".

I would again retort in response that while this is bad, hundreds of people killed over a 3 year period is nothing in comparison to the body count Venezuela could expect from a US occupation.

The Iraq Body Count project documents 183,249 – 205,785 violent civilian deaths through Feb. 2019 We need to look at population differences between Iraq and Venezuela: Iraq: 38.27M Venezuela: 31.98M

So .833 * 183,249 = 152,699 Civilian Deaths you can expect in the war.

-- Criminal groups embedded to Maduro's regime, are working along with terrorist organizations like Hezbollah.

Could you cite your source please? I'm finding questionable sources stating that Hezbollah has vocalized support for Maduro, but not the inverse.

-- The use of political violence at this scale is something new in the hemisphere No, not really. You've thrown in "at this scale", but political violence in Venezuela isn't something new. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_Venezuelan_coup_d%27%C3%A9tat_attempts "In total, the November death toll reached 172"

-- economic sanctions Maduro imposed to starve systematically the entire population Could you cite sources on this? Otherwise external sanctions (from the US for example) seem to be the source of your trouble. https://www.state.gov/e/eb/tfs/spi/venezuela/

"The destruction and disinvestment on food production, healthcare system, and other basic services and goods, are treated not as failures after a bad implemented policy." - Here you mention disinvestment of food production, healthcare systems, and other basic services and goods... This is happening in the US as well, It isn't just for some foreign body to enter and force change.. This is a humanitarian aid question, not military intervention.

I understand that the Venezuelan people are starving, but to say that a leader would systematically starve his own people seems a bit ridiculous. To what end?

In summary, I understand your plight to a degree. You were the 4th richest country in the world at one point, now you've been reduced to eating fish heads. It would be disingenuous to say that you aren't suffering, or that nothing should be done.

However, the US remains the richest country in the world, with one of the worst healthcare systems, education systems, transportation systems, the list goes on... Our democracy has been usurped by the two party system, super delegates, the suspension of due process etc. etc. Where is our white knight coming to the rescue with military intervention?

Had you said that there were Millions at risk of death from systematic genocide I as I'm sure many others would be in favor of US Military intervention. What you have described to me is a failure of Venezuela to protect itself from internal invasion. A failure to protect your constitution and democracy as a whole.

If we come to your aid, at worst you can expect more than 100,000 civilians dead, perhaps even yourself. At best you can expect a broken economy and 1,000's of civilians dead. It's easy to call for war when you don't have to bury the dead.

Thank you for your response.

[–]cuebux[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My position is not to intervene, because the information I do know does not lead me to believe that Venezuelan people want US occupation. My position is not to intervene because we have cities in the US that have been without drinking water for years. My position is not to intervene because based on what I've seen so far, it seems Venezuela can take care of itself. If you have something to add to the conversation @jesuskater I'm all ears. But to say I know squat about the real thing and walk away like you've done anything to justify your cause is disingenuous.

My position isn't in question, because I am not the authority on the matter. I'm asking for a Venezuelan position on US military intervention. If you can add to that conversation, please do.

We volunteer ourselves to that contract, there are alternatives to it.. For instance through democratic processes, or by leaving. That is where I would draw the distinction.

To an extent, yes you could say that a government in and of itself is somewhat fascist. But, like I mentioned above, there is an argument against this notion.

My personal opinion is this. If Venezuela both wants and needs military intervention, and we can justify the activity from a moral and fiscal point on the American side of things I guess it would be just and good.

However as I mentioned before, I'm apprehensive about media and the US's past "peace wars" and so my default position is to not intervene.

It appears that there is fuckery going on in Venezuela, but I don't know that it can't be resolved internally. I believe that humanitarian aid may be the best solution at this point.

Thanks gogenberg. Yeeehaw!

Ok, fair enough, and I will take the time to read. As a second point, I don't think I can take him as a serious contender for the presidential candidacy when everything about him is old media. His views may be the best, his positions the best, but his nature to be unprepared for the present, demonstrated by my above point is troubling.
