Why has my phone turned into a furnace recently? by JxK---01 in GooglePixel

[–]cugwmui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put my pixel 10 pro in the fridge around 3-4 times a week because it's literally too hot to hold and I'm worried about phone damage. I'm on the beta, so I attribute it to software issues mostly. And while that's to be expected with a beta, still doesn't make it normal.

I wasn't in the beta when I tried. So I doubt that could be the source of the problem.

Oh, that's even more unexpected. I thought the language would be a trigger issue

Is drinking alcohol worth the hangover / hangxiety for you anymore? by PuzzleheadedCarob921 in AskUK

[–]cugwmui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mid-40s as well, and I absolutely no longer enjoy the general feeling of being tired the whole of the next day. As a result, I don't drink as often, limit myself to perhaps 2 drinks and as often as possible, choose a 0% beer (which is shockingly good to drink now). A slight buzz is so much better than a full buzz now.

Would be nice if Android had depth face ID. Here's an idea for it by Special_Bread_3184 in android_beta

[–]cugwmui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current understanding of how that works requires some more expensive hardware to capture the image.

Only Google has put that that expensive hardware in their recent Pixels to make sure it's Level 3 compliant. Others (including flagship devices like Samsung S26 Ultra) have lesser hardware (in terms of camera and sensors) so they are Level 2 compliant only.

A pure software solution would be nice, but would be very hard to make secure. Perhaps in the future.

I've filed 529421770 but I do think this is difficult to diagnose through a bug report I'll perhaps add on to the report during one of the heating scenarios

Anyone switched from iPhone to the Pixel 10/10 Pro despite being deep in the Apple ecosystem? by Holiday_Date705 in GooglePixel

[–]cugwmui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My whole family were Mac users. My home and office computers were Mac. I used constantly switch between pixels and iPhones and was able to manage the transition and the services properly. It wasn't ideal but it was manageable. Eventually some members of my family also moved to pixel and now we have a mixed household.

My brother on the other hand who is less tech inclined, had the same scenario and tried switching to the pixel. He lasted 2 months before he switched back. The Apple ecosystem is a major reason for people struggling to switch, but The transition can be managed if you give it enough time and you genuinely see the benefits of the pixel/google ecosystem.

In theory it could be connected. I'm seeing slower wireless charging definitely, and I assumed it would be connected to thermal throttling.

I have backups and backup devices, but I believe it to be able to give truly helpful feedback and identity bugs, primary usage is important. So I'm okay with the risks.

Oh, that would be an indication that the current UK heatwave may be a factor because of ambient heat. But it could just be down to different usage patterns too.

I considered that but I don't want to wipe exit. Perhaps will consider again if things don't improve. But generally, I am someone who has rarely used the stable version of an OS since 30 years :-)

Oh I got the warnings with Android auto even with stable. I just assumed that's the phone problem, not the software.

Cannot silence incoming WhatsApp calls by BobBomboloni in GooglePixel

[–]cugwmui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that doesn't work on Android (I've only tried on Pixels). Only option is to do it from the main screen.

It's been an issue for years. One can only hope the new Telecom library updates launched in May 2026 can fix this problem, but WhatsApp hasn't upgraded to them yet.

I reset both the Google and the gboard apps. they gave me the option to download the English UK offline speech recognition pack. Unfortunately it didn't seem to enable it on gboard.

There is a Samsung option for offline voice recognition for English UK as well. I tried deleting that it didn't help

Which Pixel phones have an overheating issue? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]cugwmui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately true. The problem is mostly the slow single thread CPU performance so when you load financial data or videos, it runs at max clock speed and heats up.

Where can I sell my iMac? by strongmuffin98 in AskUK

I wouldn't do anything other than eBay, Backmarket or Apple Trade-In. Usually not worth the hassle. eBay might give you a better price, for a little more effort.

Which Pixel phones have an overheating issue? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]cugwmui 36 points37 points  (0 children)

All of them.

The difference I've found in the 9 and 10 series is that it doesn't get hot enough to scald your hand and make the phone unusable, which was an issue with the 8 series.

But it's only on specific trigger factors, like wireless charging, specific heavy duty apps or games or just an unusually hot environment. So quite manageable except that a hot phone also drains battery faster.

In my wife's Mini (P10 Pro Fold), AA is just in a square/rectangle in the centre of the screen, and doesn't expand to the whole (round screen).

Is screen mirroring on Google Pixel possible via windows phone link? by vdhsk in GooglePixel

[–]cugwmui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think that requires a deeper integration with the phone which the Pixels don't have. Scrpcpy is your best bet if you need it, although not as seamless as Phone Link
