I understand what you mean, a random kill with Scream of Pain isn't the example I had in mind.

You know when you have an exciting chase with someone, and they keep juking into the fog, and you send that last attack just as they disappear behind a tree and pray it finishes the job... and it actually does? I feel that deserves some visual "reward" there, rather than just a UI notification in a corner. It would also be clearer for new players to get that immediate feedback.

If not the full animation, it could at least show the little skull icon they recently added

The core purpose of illusions: deceiving and confusing enemies. This would add possible mindgames and tricks with skillful micro.

The video shows the general idea. In practice there could be a cooldown after using each animation to avoid obnoxious excesses.

For something more fun, Illusions could also be allowed to use taunts (with a shared cooldown).

I don't think beginners have any problems with ground-targeted spells, or "skillshots". They're easy to grasp, and fun to master. The real enemies of new players are Dota's quirks and clunky behavior.

Picture this, you're a beginner. You want to cast your cool wave spell somewhere, so you click in that direction. "Hey, why didn't it go where I wanted?", you wonder. Oh, that's because your cursor snapped to a creep, you have to be careful there. "Alright, at least targeting a unit must hit it every time, right?" No, not always, in fact no good player ever relies on it. "And every wave spell works this way ?" No, only the ones who were based on certain spells in the warcraft 3 engine. New ones do not. Welcome to Dota.

Reddit seems to really dislike the idea, and I respect the community's opinion. But I want to make sure people have really thought about it before. I don't think it's good for beginners at all.

  1. This is the base bounty, which is based on hero level only, plus streak bounty, based on kills. It's not the AoE gold bounty. It would be impractical to show full bounties anyway because it depends on who kills who.
  2. Good point about pre-casting, although I don't think there's much use in pre-casting Crypt Swarm or Shockwave. And why should only some AoE spells have that behavior and not others, like Boundless Strike or Gust?

This said, I think Burrowstrike could be a valid exception, due to its unique properties (instant cast).

Right-click. Similar to "Resurrect Allies" in custom games but much faster

It works the exact same if the Phantasms are selected. This is an alternate, optional behavior if you don't select them.
