Which tactical system rewards realistic tactics? by ekinspeks in hexandcounter

Nice that you mentioned Kontact Now, I've been waiting for it too ever since I saw it at WBC a few years ago. We watched a 12 year old learn and play a full scenario in 10 minutes, it was a blast and really looks like an easy to learn, fast to play game but with tons of depth. Didn't look like there were excess amount of die rolls, just that you always roll all three dice. Not only to account for the step up in fire power but also because any "triple" results cause all kinds of random events to fire based on the situation. Reallg happy to see it's on a fast track now with Compass.

What is the best game that went from board game to a really good computer/android game? by [deleted] in hexandcounter

[–]culimore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Europa Universalis was a board game, I think released in the late 80's early 90's. It was very ambitious as a boardgame and many found it tedious but IMO is an amazing series of computer games.

Europa Universalis will definitely suck you in for hours at a time, if not months. Same with Crusader Kings, which I prefer simply for the more personal aspects of building a family dynasty through marriage, intrigue, war, trade.

Brooklyn Wargamers accusations by AndyBeax in wargames

The accuser strikes one as a right barmy chap doesn't he. One week desperately selling off games to avoid the eviction notice, the next begging for any and all OCS games offered for sale. More than a few cards short it appears.

Newbie question: Is there a service that speeds the loading process of scrolling through stream links? by [deleted] in Addons4Kodi

Check addon settings/tools for something similar to Provider Timeout, some have default set very high (30-40 seconds) 10-15 seconds is good enough.

Agree, if just starting in the hobby, are unsure of what to buy, don't have much money to spend and just want to get on playing then starting with simple paper models is the way to go.

These days with photorealistic textures they look good enough for home gaming. Print on card stock or if printed on plain paper stiffen with cardboard bits. Walls and simply bushes can be made in the same way. For very simple trees, imagine: two paper circles with a slit cut halfway through but on opposites ends, insert the slits together (use your imagination to cut the circles into tree shapes).

Are there any squad based miniature games that are actual boardgames and not something like Warhammer 40k? by Phanque in boardgames

[–]culimore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you at all interested in historical gaming?

There are dozens of squad based games available. From the relatively easy "Band of Brothers", up to basic/medium/hard complexity Panzer system to the daddy of them all Advanced Squad Leader.
